FHF Salutes the Leafs:
Game Preview, Open Thread, and GM/Coach Death Pool

Well, well, well. 3 Leafs posts around here in 2 days. It's not our fault - they are the ones coming apart at the seams. As is now the custom, male strippers and a variation on the normal preview for Leafs games. Until we lose of course.

The boring crap - 7:30 P.M. start at the ACC. On TV, the game has the magical RDS-TSN HD double-double. Does that mean it's still blacked out in Toronto? Habs losers of 2 in a row. Leafs, after beating the Sens, have gone on a 3-game slide.

Again? Pension Plan Puppets features the FHF in his 5 questions with... feature. His readers must be sick of us by now. Or they are too busy leaning over the precipice to notice. Other blogs to watch the downfall of the Leafs front office include Bitter Leaf Fan, Raking Leafs, and the just-discovered and quite enjoyable He Score, He Shoot.

More crap about the game, in easy-to-read, "HF29 has too much real work to do today to do this properly" bullet point format:
  • Price gets the start after stopping 40 en route to the last win against the Leafs;
  • Gui! gets promoted to the "first" line (line 4B in Guy!'s head), at least for the first shift;
  • Conversely, Ryder will play with Chips and El Dandy on Line 4D;
  • Saku has one goal in his last 11 games;
  • Here are the Google Image Search Results for "hot Finnish babes" to make up for that (NSFW if your "safe search" is turned off);
  • Jim Popp has "relinquished his coaching duties" with the Als. That's code for "we want to fire you but we'll be classy about it";
  • Markov still leads all East D and now Huet leads all East goalies in All-Star in-progress voting announced today;
  • Those last two points had nothing to do with the game and I don't give a fuck, they were important.
Other crap on TV - when your ears hurt from McGuire, switch over to Fox or Global at 9 PM for House. Big episode tonight as Dr. House chooses the new members of the team. I am rooting for Thirteen for obvious reasons.

JFJ / Paul Maurice Death Pool - if you can guess the exact day and time of the announcement of one or both of their firings in the comments, you win a prize. I don't know what the prize is, but it'll be stripperriffic I can promise.

K let's hear your game thoughts and Death Pool guesses in the comments.

  1. I am taking 2 PM tomorow, JFJ only.

    Did I mentione I am eligible in my own contest? I rule bitches!

    Whoa sorry about that bitches thing kids. Was channeling With Leather I guess

  2. Let’s start of right, Leafs suck.

    Should the 8-1 rout happen tonight, both bozos will be out of a job by noon tomorrow.

    For stripperriffic purpose, consider my guess as the following. JFJ will be unemployed by noon November 30th. Is showering body, Maurice will make it till January 11th.

    Thank god for Finnish babes...

  3. I say 10am Thursday.

    I know its the Leafs but the non-female images have to go - please!

    After last week, I am still obsessing with HF29's suggestion of the TNG pole dance by Dr. Crusher. Someone photoshop this into reality.

    and finally...Popp goes weasel

    ReplyDelete
  4. Popp goes weasel

    easy, but well done

    Popp still doesn't think he did anything wrong

  5. The Leafs aren't organized enough to have replacements in place by tomorrow, unless they pull the "hire former players under contract at Molsons [ahem, MLSE]" like Corey's Reggie/Mario idiocy.

    In that case, "ladies and gentlemen, welcome your new GM Tie Domi, and his new coach Doug Gilmour."

    Oh please. Please, please please let that happen.

  6. The Leafs will make a huge mistake by putting Messier or Healy in charge instead of hiring say....Neil Smith who is actually qualified for the position. If I had my way I would have JFJ be the GM until he's old and retires.

  7. Depends on the outcome tonight...

    Habs Win: JFJr goes tomorrow at 1pm (HF29 already took 2pm)

    Habs Lose: Friday, 2pm.

  8. Way to shrug off the Guy Lafleur remark, Panger. It was obviously just a nasty bit of hyperbole. Everybody knows there are 3 or 4 players on the Habs who do NOT belong on the 4th line. Or any line. They should be up in the pressbox, inhaling Jack Todd's beerfarts.
    HF10 "Dont insult the circus" zing... Nice one.

  9. Woohoo let's get this show on the road. I'm very excited yet terribly nervous.

    Ooh JFJ on TSN right now...focus on the ice...the rest is background noise, bla bla, yada yada. re Peddie's comments - "I am confident in what i can do" - at least til tomorrow at 2 PM

  10. My Dad is a Leafs fan. I had a tinge of sadness when I realized he is in his 60's and will probably never see his team hoist the cup again. Then I thought of my nephew. He is 9 and faces the same prospect. Then I thought of my dog who has more sense than either one of them. Now I think I'll have another beer.

  11. Every time I refresh the page, there's Sailor Sixpack, saluting me in those sexy sunglasses. Beating Toronto is it's own reward. But losing to them means we are not subjected to any more Chippendales, ok? 'Course it's your blog, I'm just an asshole who likes to post on it, rippling musclemen or not.

    ReplyDelete
  12. @sanchez:

    Then I thought of my dog who has more sense than either one of them

    +1 for that

    as for the rippling muscleman, yes, Habs lose and the women are back for Leafs games. small price to pay, imho for beating the Laffs. there are 74 other games in the year which will have the lovely ladies

    ReplyDelete
  13. 29 absolutely a small price to pay. and you know i'm just fuckin' with ya. Thought I saw TomK and Smokes on the last shift of the PP. And I'm still sober.

    ReplyDelete
  14. FYI Smolinski earned that nickname for his blazing speed.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Smolinski, killing me!

    This game is just like, going nowhere fast. 4 shots so far, says Yvan. yeesh

    ReplyDelete
  16. I agree with HF10, the Leafs aren't organized enough to trade in JFJ tomorrow. And if they do - whoo hoo, cause Glenn Healy is taking over. Let the Leafs get a taste of the Houle-Tremblay era (yes, despite what JFJ has done, they're still no wrose that in the 20 years prior to the Pat Quinn era).

    I'm going out on a limb and saying Januray 1st.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Oh and any one else notice that Bonk has 9 goals with the Preds? At this rate, I'll be happy if Smokehoits double digits for the year - PP time or not.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Hey I've been watching RDS and didnt even realize that Miller McGuire and co are not working the TSN broadcast which I clicked over to at a whistle. It's Cuthbert. Hmmm

    OK as ive said before 40 minutes of good play + 20 minutes of crap with good goaltending gets you wins on the road. We just had the crap and goaltending part, let's see the 40 minutes of good play part.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Yeah I can't blame the fans at the ACC for sounding like a mime troupe. I expect that. But they are even lamer than usual. Where are the belligerent mob that make the trip to Montreal 4 times a year. Don't they go to home games?

    ReplyDelete
  20. thx for popping in Panger and reminding us of BONK. fuck. but i still think it was ok to let him go, even though i always liked him. no way you could predict 3 times the goals as Ryder

    ReplyDelete
  21. Did it have to be Marcy? Streit sucks ass.

    ReplyDelete
  22. AK 27. Man he has a shot when he wants to use it.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Tenderness nice. That wasnt a cherry pick either they all went to the net. Thats what he has to do get in front and be opportunistic.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Tucker, ok. But Kilger? It's a good thing there are no more ex-Habs on the Leafs roster...

    I think the 'heart' is spelled k-o-i-v-u in Finnish. Looks like Ryder has lost his spot on the top line. Finally.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I cant Ryder being effective on a checking line either though. I wonder if Gainey has found his Rolodex yet. I think he threw it away in disgust after his last couple of moves. Panger mentioned Bonk. While were opening wounds look who's one point behind gainey's son in law in scoring on the Stars. Yeah I'm glad he's gone too but still.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Panger Ryder is back on Line 4B within 3 games, tops

    ReplyDelete
  27. OK can we see Kovalev on the fucking power play please. The whole thing if need be, he'll be well rested.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Habs leafs. 3rd period. tied. Time to consult the Buddha. Posts will probably only make sense to me from here on. Kovalev just gave an interview and he wasn't even breathing hard. Didnt do that stupid sniff players do after every sentence. He better be on the ice when the 3rd starts.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Bertuzzi just did an interview too and he didnt even cry once.

    ReplyDelete
  30. there's your Kovy on the PP sanchez!!

    i don't like having the lead im too nervous

    ReplyDelete
  31. Cheers to Carbo for following up the Kovalev goal with the Dandy line after an intermission when every one is rested. Keep up the pressure Guy.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I think they should hire Lafleur as a coach, you know, for morale.

    ReplyDelete
  33. inept fucking pp

    ReplyDelete
  34. Carbo-face on that penalty call, nice!

    ReplyDelete
  35. heres a simple strategy carbo. When the PP starts have 27 on the ice. Guy always starts the pp with koivu, higgins , usually ryder.. Give me a fucking break . Kovalev is deadliest on the power play. Everyone has credited Jarvis and Souray and Ryder (once upon a time) and they deserved it too, but look at where the Habs PP has ranked before and since Kovalev got here. Any sensible coach would have him out there a most all the time on the PP.

    ReplyDelete
  36. This is not a shot at Huet but when i saw Kaberle closing in I thoug ht thank god he isnt playing.

    ReplyDelete
  37. god his 400th goal to tie it in the last minute

    im in hell

    ReplyDelete
  38. Blake bumped Price so I blame every fucker on the ice for letting him get in the crease. Toughen up in the last minute. Take a fucking penalty if you have to.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Bright side, fellas: JFJ keeps his job.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I'm sorry guys, Sundin's tying goal was my fault. I was watching something else with my lady, and I switched back to the game with 43 seconds left. She warned me that I was jinxing it when I wanted to watch the end, but I didn't listen. :(

    ReplyDelete
  41. Kovalev koivu Markov Plekanec thats what id do.Zamboni guy is earning his money tonight.

    ReplyDelete
  42. anyone know the record for the number of zamboni appearances in an NHL regular season game?

    ReplyDelete
  43. notice how sundin goes right at the net fast

    ReplyDelete
  44. Higgins dances around like the ice queen

    ReplyDelete
  45. I can't believe the Leafs sent Jason Blake out, down a goal in a sudden-death shootout. It would be like the Habs sending Ryder to shoot, if Ryder had cancer.

    May the current Leafs administration reign forever.

    ReplyDelete
  46. msevigny heh. but who else did they have? its not their fault

    but yeah, these guys'd be nice. not happening tho.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I like Carbonneau. The way he used to lay prostate in front of slapshots from guys like MacInnis. He shed blood for the Habs. But jesus h christ I can see why fans of every other team and, now more importantly, referees, hated him. WTF was that The old Zamboni trick? Just play the game for fucks sake. People say all the time that the derisive smirk at the refs is not going to help him and it's true. But it wont stop, thats who he is. He is the epitome of a yapper.

    ReplyDelete
  48. It's the male strippers. Keep them just for Leafs games.

    ReplyDelete
  49. HF29: It's not like the Leafs lack for Hab-killers. I'd have sent Kaberle out before Blake, maybe even McCabe (it's not like he can give up a goal in a shootout).

    You know, I didn't think Habs-Leafs shootouts could get any worse, and then I met Gordie the drunken zamboni driver. Where's the Mastercard kid when you need him?

    ReplyDelete
  50. Carbo holds stock in MasterCard - only explanation

    ReplyDelete
  51. Hey guys, Greener here from "He Score, He Shoot!" Thanks so much for the shout out today. We really appreciate it. Your blog rules.

    I live in L.A. and today I was at a deli getting my lunch. The two guys ahead of me were speaking French with the woman behind the counter. I asked them if they were from Quebec and they were. I told them I was from Toronto and we started talking about hockey. One of the guys was wearing a Canadiens sweat shirt, and we laughed as the three of us compared Leafs and Canadiens key rings. We talked about firing JFJ and keeping Kovalev under control. Great guys.

    Please keep in touch. Please link to us if you can.

    Thanks again, and take Care. Greener.
