Bring on The Bullies - Game 1 Preview and Open Thread

I may not have HF29's archive of insanely hot girls, but I figured hot female + habs jersey + very short skirt = good start to Round 2.

HF29 is in a dentist's chair right now, getting his front teeth put back in by our good friend Dr. Randy Gregg. Panger thanks him for the opportunity to post the Game Preview - and for all those things 29 mysteriously picked up for him from Foot Locker on 'Tuesday'. I also thank him for setting the precendent for the following lazy, bullet-point ridden post (really, we like to read comments from our readers more anyway):

  • #1 seed Montreal faces #6 seed Philadelphia in this first game of their second round series in the National Hockey League's playoff for the Stanley Cup. But if you didn't know that, why the fuck are you reading this anyway?
  • 7:00 pm EDT/5:00 pm MDT at Le Centre Bell in Montreal.
  • CBC, RDS (TV) CJAD, CKAC (Radio); Tsn.ca/rds.ca (webcast) - which LG77 informs us is well worth the 3 bucks, cause you get to see DOOM before the game in his tighty whiteys, we're guessing.
  • TFS(Tm) faces Marty Biron.
  • Both clubs coming off big Game 7 wins, with Montreal lucking out with an extra day of rest.
  • No lineup changes planned for Habs, so Breezer is going to bring his game-full-of-turnovers while Coach Carbo leaves Rhino's muscles in the press box. Which is fine, cause it's not like the Phlyers play physical or anything. Yeesh.
  • The new #1 line of Kovy-Saks-Higgs (we're now soliciting nicknames for this new combo) remains together, with Turtleplek in the enviable position of playing between two tits all night. Lucky bastard. Let's hope the Bros. turn another Titty Trick tonight.
  • Daniel Briere led all scorers with 11 points in the first round. Bell Centre Fans, you may continue to boo him every time he touches the puck.

Go Hockey! Go pants! GO HABS GO!

We surpassed 100 comments last game people, let us know what's on your mind and let's go for the century mark again.

  4. Good job Panger. What you said about baby Jesus (that last post) is on the spot.

Last game, when i plugged "well Thomas is more of the hasekian type" I looked freekin smart.

    I love you guys.

  5. No, no, Kristin, that's a picture of Jessica Tandy when she was 19. 19 year old Jessica Tandy equates to, like, 37 for the rest of us.

  6. C'mon, she's at least 14!
    Line combo name ideas:
    SHiKovy
    The Finamerush Line (Fin-A-mare-ush)
    KoKoHig
    Crap, this is hard.
    How about Line 1?

    I'm pumped.
    Habs 4-1.

As with the game 7 victory, tonight I will not be wearing.........PANTS!

  7. HF29 - "what, no mention of the return of Lost??"

PVR is all set. Go Hurley Go! Give that guy an XXXXXXXXXXL Habs jersey!

  8. The Sakkhig line! Kinda sounds like Sakic?

    ReplyDelete
  9. Or what about the CAA line? Capt-Alt.-Alt.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Curses. Surely that must count as an own goal for Breezer, seeing as the original shot wasn't on target? </soccer experience>

    ReplyDelete
  11. NOT GOOD.

On a positive note, The Flyers do enjoy giving up two goal leads! They've done so twice already in the playoffs.

  12. Gelinas finally finds someone shorter than him (on skates too!)

    ReplyDelete
  13. Um...as a completely unbiased and neutral observer, I have to ask...Just what the FUCK is going on?!?!? C'mon Carbs. Brasse ta gang!

Oh...and Panger? Chris Hansen is on line one.

  14. That first goal put the Habs on the back foot after a pretty good start. This game is a long way from being Phillys yet.

  15. i was coming here to write that the habs were toast after missing the penalty shot, but giddyup now!

    ReplyDelete
  16. It was coming, that makes up for the missed penalty shot!

  17. Come on boys, I took the day off to get psyched for this game, time for another!

    ReplyDelete
  18. I'm liking the refs tonight.

On another note, has Briere touched the puck much tonight? I haven't heard 21,273 people booing him all that often tonight.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Yet another note, AK46 is the awesome tonight.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Methinks that's a high stick, tbh.

@moeman: Agreed on the AK46 awesomeness.

    ReplyDelete
  21. On a second look, the puck looked to be slightly beneath the bar. Cheers Toronto.

    ReplyDelete
  22. How was that interference on Komisarek?! Is Koharski even paying attention at this point or is he too busy looking forward to that between-periods box of Timbits he has waiting for him?

Anyways, big improvement. They made the first period look more like a bit of panic caused by certain players we will not name and their own goals and less like the games-2-through-6 Habs.

    ReplyDelete
  23. "It was tipped up there too, so there will be no icing call".

Bob Cole just now when the Habs shot the puck up the ice on their current PK.

He can be quite insane sometimes.

@msevigny: Yeah, the Habs were mostly unlucky in the first period, it wasn't like the crapfest that was the Habs between games 2-6.

  24. PJ Stock, STFU please.

    ReplyDelete
  25. rips knows, PJ is one empty-minded loudmouth, oh wait the cbc/hnic loves those guys. Also, FWIW, I cannot, cannot believe a wad like Stock gets a national teevee job as a supposed Montreal-based guy. Oh and um thanks for telling me you are 6 foot tall ron mclame. Narcissism lives into the 2nd intermission.

  26. i dont like where this game is going

    ReplyDelete
  27. Nor do I. :-/

    ReplyDelete
  28. Can someone tell Higgins there is a game on and maybe he should show up?

    ReplyDelete
  29. I have not been impressed with Price tonight. He was weak on the play leading up to the second goal (should have frozen the puck) and he should have had the third one as well.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Trois à Trois, Goin' to OT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  31. SAKUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU....nice draw

    ReplyDelete
  32. Right, now don't spazz out. Please bring this baby to OT!

    ReplyDelete
  33. PS: That "don't spazz out" comment was directed towards the team. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  34. heh, rips, I thought maybe you didn't want LG77 to spazz at the sight of Kirk 'Aging Well and has Nice Hair' Muller on the RDS.

    ReplyDelete
  35. @moeman: LG77 won't get to see Mr. Muller on CBC. :-p All we get is PJ Stock........God, I hate him so much.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Kosto!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  37. Awesome.......

  38. PhiLOLdelphia FAILers.

Lucky, but a win is a win!

    ReplyDelete
  39. GREEK LIGHTNING STRIKES!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Philly was lucky this game...the Habs had had more chances...and missed a few by inches. You can't win a series on the kinda luck Philly have tonight. The fact that we can won this in spite of the unlucky bounces bodes well for the Canadiens.

    Go Habs!

  41. ooh, Kovy says 'it won't be easy with 14 to go' nice!

    ReplyDelete
  42. Wow.. The ghosts were out in full force tonight! A broken stick on the faceoff for the tying goal, Kovy's reviewed goal, some great bounces on the winning goal... WOW!

    ReplyDelete
  43. well you guys stole game one from Philly. there's no way kovalev's shorthanded goal should have counted, and that was a really weak call on Richards. but it was a really entertaining game.

    ReplyDelete
  44. You can tell that both teams are coming off emotional 7-game series. The intensity just wasn't the same. They don't quite hate each other enough yet.

    It'll come, though.

    ReplyDelete
  45. stole, ghosts, what`s the diff?

    ReplyDelete
  46. Dammit - Blogger ate my post. It was funny too. :( Too tired to re-type it.

Moeman and Rips - couldn't see Muller. I'm not in Mtl - I'm actually in Disney World, believe it or not.

I was getting text updates from Mr. LG77, who was at the game. (Original post went through what happened with each update). Bumped into a bunch of Philly fans in jerseys when it was 2-0. We made jokes back and forth (they said they would inevitably choke, I said that we had our shittiest player scoring for them, so they had a chance). Had a Habs fan standing near me during the parade and he was most grateful for the updates... Many comments about the Habs t-shirt I was wearing, to say the least!

And I found out that Greek Lightening struck just as fireworks were exploding around me.

All in all, a very good day!! ;-)

Oh, and I was wearing my lucky jewelry and I clearly didn't look at today's playoff tickets. Superstitions are alive and well!

    ReplyDelete
  47. @29: the diff, mon chèr vignt neuf, is that with one, you have to describe it as lucky. With the other, it's destiny*, baby!

    * The use of the word "destiny" in this context is in reference only to the outcome of this particular game, and should in no way be construed as a forward-looking statement.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Let's call that 1st line : Higgs Krispies because : they Snap Krackle and Pop !!
Or Habs Krispies (but there's no reference to Higgs)
