TMS presents the Game Day Skate Flyers Preview and Open Thread (huh?)

Bullet points for what you missed while wondering what the fuck is going on at FHF headquarters today...
Hey did you hear that Tom Brady finally married Giselle Bundchen? Seems as good a reason as any to post

So FHF's lineup has been depleted this week. As noted yesterday, Panger is in Hawaii (fuck you Panger), and HF10 has been dealing with some family stuff (good stuff, not bad, so don't worry). And in a couple of hours yours truly is taking off for the weekend, leaving HF4 to mind the store for the killer Philly-Sharks Friday-Saturday double. So to help him out, your game preview is coming a little early today. And as befitting TMS (and the fact that I stil have to pack), you damn well better believe it's in bullet point form...
  • 7 PM start in Philly, and it's on TSN;
  • Habs have won two in a row! What a streak!
  • Philly has taken 7 of 9, and has solidified their hold on that East 4th spot, 4 points up on the Habs with 2 games in hand;
  • This is the game that always tears Kristin of eager to go psycho apart, given her dual loyalties;
  • Pleks and Markov are your hot Habs. I kind of miss ZombiePleks for some reason;
  • Mike Richards has 9 points in his last 4 games;
  • We know that The Bratislava Bra is starting, but other than that it's tough to get lineup notes at 7 AM. Most like El Dandy won't play, as he's asked to be traded;
  • Danny Brière is expected to come back tonight after missing the last 35 games;
  • I can't even think about post-game adult entertainment at this hour. I've heard that there is porn on the internet, maybe you can find some.
Take care of each other in the comments today kids. Go Pants.

  2. Sounds like Briere may not get into the lineup due to cap issues. Unless they want to go with 5 d-men.
    Even after we took Metropolit off their hands...is he an upgrade over Begin? Or is it just Cap games?

  3. "just cap games"?

    you have no idea what kind of player you just got in that guy. he was unbelievable for boston last year. i suppose it will be interesting to see how he does under Carbo - if Carbo hates him, well then it really is time for him to go.

  4. Ah, good ol' Glen. I hung out with him a couple of times back when he was a Nashville Knight (ECHL IS the best minor league around)> He's a lot like PJ Stock, except Glen has some talent and personality.

  5. No, I believe he's a solid 4th line player, maybe even 3rd line. Just wondering if Bob's moving pieces around for a bigger deal, or is he just solidifying our depth after dealing Begin.

  6. I was actually happy we got Metropolit. The guy was a total pain in the ass last year for the Broons. I can't believe he got put on waivers by Philly (and I was sure he wouldn't clear them), but there you go.

    That being said, I think he's kind of a replacement Bégin. It must have been too good of an offer (i.e. FREE) for Gainey to pass up.

  7. I am torn about tomorrow's game. I live in the San Francisco Bay Area all of my life. I got hooked on hockey with the California Golden Seals in the 70's. I became a Habs fan just after the Seals moved to Cleveland(bleh!). Ken Dryden was (still is!)my hero. But, I've also become a die hard Sharks fan since the beginning in '91. For this one time can we waive the rule and just have a tie? Please?

  8. I'm pretty pumped about this pick-up, not sure how he fits into the lineup, but make no mistake, Metropolit is a solid player able to really bolster secondary scoring. Plus he's a center, which pretty much makes him the Matsiah around here.

    @hman: that's like having a supermodel for a wife, and then, the minute she's out the door, fucking an average (albeit much younger) woman with terrible fashion sense who can never finish properly...or something like that

  9. Montropolit goes to the front of da net, so thats nice!

  10. We know that The Bratislava Bra is starting...

    *sigh*...you complete me.

    Oh, and congrats on Metropolit. Yet one more ugly bastard who's owned our asses throughout his career. FACKINK BRA!!

  11. Woo hoo! Centre Ice for some reason is not showing the game, even though it is listed. Fuck this shit.

  12. I'm taking Komo out behind the woodshed during the first break.

  13. @ Gate

    Yeah! Consolation for me is that I'm not a Maple Laffs or Broons fan.

  14. We need a new stat under the Habs record on the right hand side.

    Three: Games in a row Montreal has killed a 5 on 3, without having one of their own.

  15. Breezer! AUUUUUUUUUUUGGGHHHH!

    You dumb fuck, fucking hook him or whatever the fuck you need to do to bring Gagne down!

    ReplyDelete
  16. Put him back in the trunk.

    ReplyDelete
  17. How many more fucking games til Breezeby gets #1000! FUCK!

    Great save by Halak on the 2 on 1!

    ReplyDelete
  18. And Dandy doesn't get to play D WHY?!

    ReplyDelete
  19. I'll be happy if we make it out of this period 3-3. Nice hit by Schneider on Joffrey Zoolander.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Stewart, you dumb fuck... pointless penalty.

    ReplyDelete
  21. That's five-on-threes to kill in the last three games.

    ReplyDelete
  22. TSN on Hamr's penalty:
    "Well, even if that wasn't really a penalty he shouldn't go in with one hand on his stick."

    On the Flyers slash at the end of the period:
    "It's easy to say not to do it, but sometimes you just get frustrated."

    These guys could justify throwing kittens into a woodchipper if it suited them. Oy.

    ReplyDelete
  23. That should read five 5-on-3s to kill in the last three games.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Why is our defense so shitty at even strenght but turn awesome when shorthanded?

    ReplyDelete
  25. Man, Komi is playing himself out of Montreal at this point.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I'm sure I saw Laraque on the bench. Has he played a shift yet?

    ReplyDelete
  27. Somehow I don't think the Flyers will go 0-9 on the PP. I hope I'm wrong.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I'm shocked and dismayed that the TSN guys don't agree with that call.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Woo-hoo! Big win!

    And Chicago has tied it up against Pittsburgh. Go Hawks!

    ReplyDelete
  30. HAHA! Fuck Philadelphia!

    (Of course we'll get swept by them in the first round as some bullshit "karmic payback")

    Me thinks that Komi has been spending too much time with Breezer. His game is sucking by osmosis.

  31. 2 Big Points!
    Metro is going to be a good pick up. I imagine it was hard to play in the game tonight 4 him.

    Gainey looks like a genius for the Schneider pick up if nothing else.

    I don't know who the fuck Doug Janik is, but surely to hell, he can't be as bad as Breezer.

    ReplyDelete
  32. looks like Breezer needs 4 more games under his belt. Not sure if that includes tonight. I think so.

    Then he can be put back in Panger's trunk for good.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Three more games after tonight.

    Just three more games, just three more games... *rocks back and forth*

    I'm looking at the icetime for tonight... Breezer played only 11:51 tonight (it felt like much longer) and was a healthy -2 with 2 giveaways. In other words, he's good for a goal against every five minutes - sounds about right.

    Mathieu Schneider played 25 minutes. I sure hope he's still alive come April.

    Oh, look at the scoresheet for Georges LaBadBaque - it's hilariously sad. Four minutes of playing time, seven shifts (only player to have single-digit shifts), no shots, no missed shots, no HITS, no giveaways, no takeaways, no blocked shots, no PP time, and no PK time. It's like he wasn't there at all!

  34. so my high-priced lodge in the middle of nowhere has high speed internet, which is nice

    holy crap 3 wins in a row.

    /sheds tear

    but goddammit thank god i can't see highlights cause i dont want to watch Breezer

  35. The Philadelphia media are idiots. How the fuck is Gagne the first star in this game? How is Jaro not one of three stars?

    ReplyDelete
  36. Wooooooooooohoooooooo!

    I can't believe I didn't jinx them or Kovalev by being there in person!!!

    word verif = frabbi

    oh dear

    ReplyDelete
  37. fuuuuuck youuuu philadelphia! worst fans in hockey. glad they shut those bitches up tonight!

    ReplyDelete
  38. - I was sad to see Begin go, but then I asked myself why, and I couldn't come up with an answer that Lapierre couldn't do better.
    - Pleks is just...thank God.
    - How about this one: if Price starts tomorrow (and I'm thinking he does) and say, for the sake of the argument, gets 50 saves and a shutout against the mothereffin Sharks, what do you do? Actually, no, let's not think about that.
    - I actually had to remind myself that Higgins isn't still injured. The guy's near invisible on the ice, total non=factor.
    - Brisebois, I'm sorry, I know it's only three games, but this is the most important part of the season and, let's face it, you're not exactly Boom Boom Geoffrion. Get your games in after we've locked up a playoff spot.

    ReplyDelete
  39. @Gate: nice optimism, thinking there will be at least 3 games left when we lock up a playoff spot.
