- René Angelil believes that that the Habs need to be "reborn" and to "show some fucking pride in the CH". We're paraphrasing that last one;
- Brian Burke is all pissy about how Heater asked for his trade;
- Guy Lafleur will be sentenced today. At least he should be able to get some smokes in prison.

I hope some enterprising person is already making "Free Guy" t-shirts.
ReplyDeleteYou see, this statement by Burke leaves me confused. Because on hand, he seems delusional by wanting Tavares (what, trade the city of Toronto for him? Mind you, NYI have been stupid enough to trade their high drafts before. Yashin for Spezza, Chara anyone).
ReplyDeleteBut on the other hand, he was willing to publicly state what probably every GM in the league is thinking to themselves a propos Heatley
What's the CFL?
ReplyDeleteAnd: BRIAN BURKE RULES!!!1
I was at the pre-season game in Nashville when McPherson was run over by Rocky Raccoon. Glad to see he's able to play again.
ReplyDeletei think tsn.ca commenter sfaulk said it best when he mentioned that burke didn't seem to have this problem when pronger wanted out of edmonton.
ReplyDeletebrian burke: man of integrity and consistency.
@tctt: I was thinking that about the Pronger thing, but wasn't sure if my memory was accurate, and don't care nearly enough to look it up.
ReplyDeleteHabs in 6.
Oh yeah. Meant to say "Burke's an idiot. Good GM, but an idiot."
ReplyDeleteI can't belive I'm defendeing Burke, but the difference was that Pronger signed in St Louis and was traded to Edm, where he asked for a trade (and as someone who has been to Edmonton repeatedly, I understand why he would ask to get out).
ReplyDeleteHeater, however, signed with Ottawa. With a No trade clause. I think there is a rule in Major League baseball that if you demand a trade you have to waive your NTC. I hope the NHL adds that to the next CBA, and they call it the "Heatley Rule."

Oh yeah, one more thing. I'd take any whiny bitch on the Habs if he can average 45 goals/year.
ReplyDeleteTo add to Panger/HFF33's point (and to agree that defending Burke makes me die a little inside), Burke has taken issue with Heatley going to the press with his demands rather than keeping it quiet. Kevin Lowe was the first person to go to the media with Pronger's trade request. Subtle difference, but for a sleazy lawyer like Burke, it's enough to make these situations quite different.
ReplyDeleteOf course, on the other hand, it's easy to claim you'd never take Heatley when you know the Sens would never deal with the Leafs.
if what you say about it being kevin lowe and not pronger who came out to the media about pronger wanting out, then i suppose that makes it different. i'll just take your word for it because i'm too lazy to look it up. and because i believe everything i read on this site. including jaro making stew for the rest of the bulldogs and patrick roy winning a grammy.
ReplyDeletebut my main point remains the same: brian burke is a turd sandwich.
word verif: rewenc. as in, "i hope burke rewencs the leafs in a big way"
