SOLD! Habs kept out of evil Québecor hands

Well that caught me napping. Literally. Damn you Molsons for interrupting my favourite Saturday activity, the nap while watching golf. But it seems to be true - everyone is reporting that the Molson Brothers have bought the Habs and related properties for more than a half a billion dollars. Ch-ching, George!

Pending league approval we guess. We'll sort it all out when I wake from my nap.

  2. League approval should be easy.

"We have actual honest-to-god money, and no intention of moving the Canadiens to Hamilton."

    APPROVED

  3. PRAISE THE LORD! LORD STANLEY THAT IS!

If this is true, I swear to drink only Molson products until they win the cup! (Runs to see if Molson brews Rickards).

    Thank God!

Maybe we can focus on hockey now.

Btw, CBC said that Serge Savard might be the new Prez? That would be awesome indeed.

Wait... so is the Bell Centre still the Bell Centre? Or does it revert to the Molson Centre?

WV: "instabl". I'm not sure whether blogger is commenting on Iran's political situation, or Peladeau's state of mind at being outbid by one of the oldest anglophone families in Quebec.

  9. RDS is saying $550M. Dats a lot o' $ud$. Beats being owned by a pension plan.

  12. SSHF: Good question. My guess is, the Molsons will still sell the naming rights. They'll get more money from that than from advertising, I'd expect.

  13. Pretty sure it will remain the Bell Center, for 2 reasons:
    1) as stated by fezworth, naming rights are big bucks.
    2) the new owners are the Molson brothers at 80% and the brewery at 20%. As far as I know, Molson was sold to Coors and the Molson brothers are not deriving money from the brewery themselves anymore. Therefore, they don't give a shit about giving it more publicity.

  14. This says that Bell paid $64 M for a 20-year contract for the naming rights. So The Molson Bros. don't have a choice. (Sorry I can't get the link to work, so just cut and paste you lazy bastard)
