Ok so a 5 year deal worth 10M for Koivu, 2M cap hit. Then 4,5M for 6 years for Tanguay. That makes 6,5M, which leaves 6,5M - throw that at Havlat, for 2-3 years, and we'd be good to go.
You'd have a first line of Havlat-Gomez-Tanguay... not too shabby.
According to cap central at Eklund's site (I know, I know) the Habs have $18 plus left, not including Patches and Weber who would add about $1.7M. So if the 2-year 9M for Kovy is true, that leaves Bob about $12M for a top 6 centre and winger. Realistically the winger could be Tanguay and we could still trade for a big centre.
I'm starting to feel a bit better about Bob's strategy.
