We need leadership ~ Canadiens vs. Capitals - Game Day Preview and Open election debate thread

We are Habs fans. We love our team. We are passionate. We are reasonable. We want CHange. We want goals. We want to win. My FHF colleagues and a lot of our blog's commentors voted with their words this week. Logical, reasoned, intelligent, emotional, funny, conscientious, well-adjusted, visionary, extraverted, open and maybe even a bit controversial. Lets join forces with our voices and CHeer our boys towards a great finish and even better playoff performances beyond May 2nd.

National Mission Statement ~ The game is offered in both official languages. RDS and CBC. 7PM EDT puck drop. Intermission puppet show befalls the country.
Just watCH me ~ All-Star, Vezina and Hart potential candidate TFS™ leads his team (5-5-0) vs. Washington's (8-2-0) Holtby (thx N31).

Cool CHreative CHriticism ~ "Nevertheless, what can I do. I am a child of the Trudeau era, when the elites had a public conscience and art and creativity were seen as virtues in themselves and not just creative industry." ~ Der BaruCH

CHild labour ~ The kids are playing hard, they've got the lungs to go deep. Time to give some vets the shaft.
Time to hear from a CHarismatic leader ~ LeCH Walesa said he "belonged to a nation which over the past centuries had experienced many hardships and reverses". Jean Beliveau said "talent is a gift from God, but you only succeed with hard work". Aragorn is quoted with "I do not know what strength is in my blood, but I swear to you I will not let the White City fall, nor our people fail." Brian Gionta once said “We've just got to keep plugging away. We're trying to be too fancy at times, passing up some shots that we should be taking.” So the message is work hard, reverse the hardship, form a CHoalition and don't fucking fail!
A CHicken in every pot ~ I'd settle for a goal from the recently scoreless Habs.

Playboys ~ Game CHangers like Pierre and Bob were great leaders in their fields and lovers of what makes life fun, beautiful and filled with flair like the Habs boys use to play.
Penthouse ~ Like the Habs, the Caps are trying to secure 1st place in their division.

Put away the mega phony ~ Hey Boudreau, STFU!

OV ~ Worst fucking Canadian beer ever made. Also, no Caps #8 is great on this date. Habs injury list hasn't changed but VodkOV was skating and negotiating, so thats nice!

VOTE! ~ The conservative gal, the liberal minded kitten, the cute pet?
G Y F H G!

  1. I'd like to see the Conservative gal in the pet's outfit. but im sick that way

could we get back to at least some competence tonight? please?

    ReplyDelete
  2. Hey HF29, competence is a highly over-rated factor in a winning team. Nads...that's what they require.

    ReplyDelete
  3. I predict...Darche and/or Moen will score.

Looks like it's going to be Holtby by the way. Caps can't get their goalies healthy, and Varlamov played last night.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Wasn't Holtby the winner last week?

Time to break out of this slump.

Going to miss this game, may get to see the 3rd period. Going to see the Sea Dogs put another whipping on Cape Breton.

  5. @moeman, is that Kim Campbell behind the judges robes?

    ReplyDelete
  6. I am loath to write the whole thing here, so I'll just give you the link to my post on why last game didn't matter for shit.

More specifically, How wining 7-0 can make you the biggest loser ever.

    http://mcpheerules.blogspot.com

PS : I still expect us to lose tonight in a heartbreak loss, sending us further down the ridiculous spiral which comes when a team having already clinched loses three games in a row in this city.

Let the injured ones return and gain momentum, let Price rest and Auld fly, let Cammy and Giant keep all their goals for the playoffs and let's do what professional Canadiens teams did in the past, which is to stop looking at the boards and start sending people into them. Try this or that combination, give rookies experience, etc. It didn't always have to come down to the last week of the calendar, and we behaved accordingly. We should do that now.

Everybody relax. We couldn't miss the playoffs if we tried, and who we play in the first round matters less than the state of our team when the puck drops for game 1.

    ReplyDelete
  7. God I miss Kim Campbell. Too bad she was tagged as the most inept Canadian leader ever... I thought she was great and was really sad she got bounced out of the ring. (It's just as well, she probably would have made a awful PM, but for a while there I thought she might overcome the Mulroo big machine and bring a spark of originality to the post, more like PET than Mulroo's pet). That photo was part of the reason I thought so, though as memory serves it didn't go over so hot at the time.

I hope McPhee is right .. God knows that Habs fans bounce from elation to despair in an eyeblink, but that team the other night looked utterly defeated. Maybe their team spirit and the system will come through...

  8. "We want CHange."

I don't know what to expect from the Habs tonight. Hopefully, they don't embarrass themselves because at this point, nothing would surprise me.

GYFHG (No exclamation point until someone other than TFS/PFK gives me a reason to be excited about this team again. I know. That'll show 'em.)

P.S. Bruins shut out at home by the Rangers.

  11. @McPhee,

Like your blog. Well done sir. Putting 4 injured guys back in the lineup takes time for things to gel again. Remember last year at the end of the season? I can't remember how many guys were back from injury, but the last 5 games the boys looked bloody terrible. They had it together for the playoffs though. Okay, from here on in I'm going to be sensible, I don't give a shit about the remaining games as long as they get to the dance.

  12. heh, hnic panel is collectivity giving the leaf a facial (aka burkkake). Sick fucks.

    ReplyDelete
  13. haharudey slips and says the proverbial hnic 'we' whilst speaking of their hope for their leaf. milbury tries to praise them as he chokes on burke dick. Pervs.

    ReplyDelete
  14. hahahrudey says Habs are high on the hog (after not playing that weel vs. MIN last Sunday), same fuck that just finished saying the leaf are the pajamas that belong to the cat. What a bunch of weird soulless fucks.

    ReplyDelete
  15. @moe,

Your pure hatred of all things leaf is as always, delightful.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Thx Moey, I vent therefore I hate, the leaf.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I enjoy TSN's take that the Habs have absolutely zero shot of catching the Bs (5 pts) but are hanging on for dear life for the playoffs (7 pts). I agree the NE division crown is a long shot (though their mighty bruins are a dominating 3-4-3 in their last 10) and anything can happen for 8th, but I love when numbers and probabilites are ignored in order to illustrate one's bias. See also: the leaf making the playoffs.

    ReplyDelete
  18. 0-man, math is fun and even funner at the CotU.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Hope the Habs show more competence than my Gators just did in OT. fuck

  20. Elliotte that tie is an embarrassment

    ReplyDelete
  21. Fried Man is still hungover from St. Patty's Day.

    ReplyDelete
  22. No Ovie! No Arnott! I feel like we could possibly, if circumstances conspire, have a chance at not being embarrassed!

    ReplyDelete
  23. Tits gets to fall down the Mexican American rat hole tonight. that should be fun

    ReplyDelete
  24. It's official. Gomer now gets lots of scattered during player introductions.

The starting lines are fucking weird, yo. DDD gets a nice hand, though.

    ReplyDelete
  25. lg is in da big Bell house!

    ReplyDelete
  26. I think the camera should just focus on le Gros Bill all game

    ReplyDelete
  27. i knew Bob Cold was coming, but ick. RDS for me

    ReplyDelete
  28. FUCK

if anyone needs me, i'll be watching basketball...

    ReplyDelete
  29. And just as I was about to announce my going streaking if the Habs scored the first goal. Oh, well.

    ReplyDelete
  30. nice kill. ok ONE GOAL. FOR PATCHES.

    ReplyDelete
  31. how many penalties can one team get FFS

    ReplyDelete
  32. Every criticism of the Habs should end with "FOR PATCHES". Makes it more meaningful.

Examples include: Would it kill Mex to score a goal FOR PATCHES? or Fer chrissakes, could you take anymore penalties FOR PATCHES?!

    ReplyDelete
  33. oh Tits

the return of the CzeCH sausage at least

    ReplyDelete
  34. That was a wobbly sausage, 4 PatCHes!

    ReplyDelete
  35. even i think that should have been boarding on Tits

    ReplyDelete
  36. how about any sort of sustained offense FOR PATCHES

    ReplyDelete
  37. RDS showiong a bunch of 1994 Expos who are at the game. awesome! Pedro!

    ReplyDelete
  38. huh? Lego a penalty for avoiding a check?

    ReplyDelete
  39. ANOTHER FUCKING PENALTY FOR PATCHES?!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Wow, the crowd, the Habs, the Caps, the media...the only person in the bldg who thought that was a Hab penalty was that one ref. When the CBC thinks it's a weak call against Montreal you know the fix is in.

    ReplyDelete
  41. keep the fucking puck in the zone FOR PATCHES

    ReplyDelete
  42. A big PK followed by a big hit to rile up the guys. Hmar makes an offside pass with no pressure to kill the chance and all momentum. Yup.

    ReplyDelete
  43. STOP FALLING FUCKING DOWN FOR PATCHES!!!!

    geez

    ReplyDelete
  44. Matt - fear the collapseMarch 26, 2011 7:52 pm

Another garbage effort...maybe it isn't the effort, but the lack of talent

    ReplyDelete
  45. 3 shots? OH NO THEY DIDN'T.

That's the best they could do? Playing at home, after the Boston meltdown and facing an Ovi/Green-less Caps and that's it?

At this rate, Patches is just going to have to come back and score the goals himself FFS.

    ReplyDelete
  46. At this point, we should try to forget our next goal is the first sign of life we've showed since PatCHes, so...

As I said, they just haven't completely surmounted the shock from that vicious act and the no-less vicious media cycle which inexplicably ended up turning on the Habs.

They needed to take their minds off hockey for a week at least. Alas, they're not allowed to do that. So, they suck. Obviously. And in this game where the tiniest advantage, physical or psychological, can turn a game around, imagine the impact this can have on the outcome of every game.

Anyho, we'll be fine. Just, not quite right now. We're still minus one thousand on the mojo meter, but that's way better than the minus one million we were at one week ago.

    GYFCHG!!!

    ReplyDelete
  47. Nice little cheap shot at "Whatshisname" Patches by Cherry. When a rookie is intentionally injured by a vet the proper thing to do is defend that vet no matter what apparently. RESPECT.

    WV: splat. Ironic.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Allowing an early goal, getting 3 penalties (albeit only 2 legit ones), getting 3 shots. This is not a team with leadership, talent or even pride. It's just sad to witness.

    ReplyDelete
  49. If Cammy is so injured, why is he on the PK? The day he scores a SH goal...

    ReplyDelete
  50. For the record, I'm not questioning his injury, just JM's decision.

    ReplyDelete
  51. we're never scoring again FOR PATCHES

    ReplyDelete
  52. Score a goal for Price, FFS!

    ReplyDelete
  53. I'm having a Disaronno 4 PatCHes!

    ReplyDelete
  54. Is it about time to start bringing waffles to the game?

    ReplyDelete
  55. @moe,

I'm just going to pour one of those to! Patches will be fine, it's Price that deserves the support.

    ReplyDelete
  56. It's time to start bringing the whole waffle iron to the game.

wv: is this game rilly happening?

    ReplyDelete
  57. Cole just, in the same sentence, said the leaf is coming on strong and doing well after seeing them give up a goal to go down in their game and then says the Habs are in trouble of falling out of the playoffs. It's simply magnificent illogic.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Moey, a splash of orange juice cuts the sweetness 4 PatCHes!

    ReplyDelete
  59. All hyperbole aside, I really don't think they will score ever again. I hope everyone was watching the Minnie game on Sunday, but that's the last time we'll see a Hab player raise his arms in triumph. The NHL will make those history commercials. It will be talked about in university classes.

    ReplyDelete
  60. I always said it: before you win you must lose. I never want to be that team that enters the playoffs with a false sense of confidence.

I want my boys to know how tough it is to win. I want them to hate the thought of losing and that feeling to be stronger than the fear of losing or the interest in winning the cup. I want them to get MAD! before every game.

This will bring the boys together, and not a moment too soon or too late. They'll dig their heels in and find it in them to pull together.

BTW Squid is a streaky scorer, and his next hot streak is due to begin just before playoffs start and should last just about all playoffs long.

    Can't complain about the timing...

    A PP goal.c'mon!

    ReplyDelete
  62. @McPhee - Can you bottle some of that positivity and send me?

One hundred and sixty six minutes without a goal FOR PATCHES.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Matt - fear the collapseMarch 26, 2011 8:48 pm

Limping in like always...it won't turn out like last year this time...more likely the 4 and out we saw against the broons two years ago

    ReplyDelete
  64. It's like watching a train wreck, I'm horrified, but I can't turn away.

    ReplyDelete
  65. @McPhee: No. They had their extended slum over Christmas. I understand you're looking for straws to grasp, but they can't even score. To use losing as inspiration there has to be some leadership and, you know, pride. I know it's easy to say these guys don't care, I really do believe TFS, PFK, White, DD, and Gio care, but in general they don't seem to be angry when the camera pans the bench. After that embarrassment in Boston JM came out the next day with, "Well, they're a good team". Fuck you Chocula. I don't know what was said behind closed doors, but obviously not much else because they look even less interested now than on Thursday.

Having said all that and much more, I could believe that they come out in the 3rd and pot a goal or two. But that's just a maybe and it really doesn't erase what's happened up to now.

    ReplyDelete
  66. The whole team has a concussion.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Milbury defending, nay congratulation, Recchi. I'm shocked!

    ReplyDelete
  68. Pleks is a dirty player that's on the NHL's radar now, but Recchi is a stand up guy who did the right thing. And go Chara go. What a mentally ill person, and he's surrounded by other sick people, too. I'm not using 'sick' in moe's sense, I mean it literally in the head of people who down talk and ridicule serious injuries to young men while condemning an accidental high stick that was punished.

    ReplyDelete
  69. I saw the Lincoln Lawyer today. Pretty decent movie. I <3 Matthew.

    ReplyDelete
  70. heh, Fuckface milbury attacking PleXXXe for intentionally high sticking, wait for it, a Bruin, says a suspension was deserved. Weird how their production crew had it all lined up. Also, eric francis, go fuck yourself you fucking cherry wannabe. I guess cbc/hnic's plate of Habs hate was full tonight.

    Also, 4 PatCHes!

    ReplyDelete
  71. One more period FOR PATCHES.

They've got 20 minutes to do something. Anything.

    ReplyDelete
  72. I wonder how many times Cole and Galley will mention the potential shut out as they do every game Price has one going. Let's count together, shall we?

    ReplyDelete
  73. That stupid Canadiens app keeps asking who I think will score the next goal. Everytime they ask, I don't know whether to laugh or cry.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Have the Habs every been shut out 3 straight games? I think we might be witnessing history!

    ReplyDelete
  75. O-man, happened in 1949 but not 4 PatCHes!

    ReplyDelete
  76. I really like Price's new mask.

    ReplyDelete
  77. this is turning into an epic stretch of FAIL FOR PATCHES

    ReplyDelete
  78. Gomez was on for that entire PP. This indicates to me that JM is not interested in winning, or scoring for that matter.

1949 apparently. The last time 3 straight SOs. My dad wasn't even born. History will be made.

    ReplyDelete
  79. 10 minutes, 2 goals= 2points
    why can't they bear down?

    ReplyDelete
  80. Wow, I think I've seen the Cap goal tonight more than I've seen the Golden Goal. Thanks CBC.

    ReplyDelete
  81. does anyone have a "how many minutes since we scored" count?

    ReplyDelete
  82. Is CHicken benCHed, 4 PatCHes!?

    ReplyDelete
  83. Call a fucking timeout and have Muller rip them a new asshole, 4 PatCHes!!!

    ReplyDelete
  84. "Gomez is smiling".

    GET HIM OFF THIS TEAM

    ReplyDelete
  85. @29 - I believe it's 181. Sigh.

    ReplyDelete
  86. @o-man: Yeah, I nearly broke my television screen aimingfly remote at his head when I heard that.

    ReplyDelete
  87. if they make it to 200 minutes, do they get meth ice cream FOR PATCHES?

    and... FUCK

    ReplyDelete
  88. Update: TV is definitely broken now.

    ReplyDelete
  89. I have seen some terrible Hab teams, but this is the most impotent, lazy, pathetic, prideless bunch of losers I've ever seen.

    ReplyDelete
  90. Matt - this team is shitMarch 26, 2011 9:36 pm

What a joke of a team, and most of them willing out and drink tonight and not give a fuck. I hope they miss the playoffs

    ReplyDelete
  91. the extra skater is irrelevant FOR PATCHES

    ReplyDelete
  92. Well at least they're booing of Gomez makes me feel nice.

    ReplyDelete
  93. Chocula calling time out. Is still alive?

    ReplyDelete
  94. Matt - this team is shitMarch 26, 2011 9:40 pm

Eller is the only forward who looks somewhat capable of scoring...if they miss it would be great. Hopefully they could find a way to dump a couple of contracts, squid, Gomez maybe even giant and just tank for the next couple of years and build a real team

    ReplyDelete
  95. sweet save by Gionta

    ReplyDelete
  96. Somebody pleeeaaase throw the mex in Panger's trunk for fuck sake.

    ReplyDelete
  97. Maybe if they put half as much effort into the game as they did to avoid that emptynetter, they wouldn't have been shut out three games in a row.

    FUCK THIS.

    ReplyDelete
  102. Matt - watching the collapseMarch 26, 2011 9:45 pm

Gets worse and worse with this bunch. They should pick Gomez as a star so he can skate out there alone as they throw drinks at him

    ReplyDelete
  103. Holy shit, the Gators lost? 4 PatCHes?

    ReplyDelete
  104. Officially tied for 7th now with the Rangers. 2 pts up on Buffalo with a game in hand. Only good news is that Canes and the leaf lost. yay, go limping into the playoffs by default. Default: the two best words in the English language.

    ReplyDelete
  105. Up next, CAR, ATL, NJ, 6 points 4 PatCHes!

    ReplyDelete
  106. PHI, WAS, BOS in round 1, all prime 4 a PatCHes! upset!

    ReplyDelete
  107. I'd like to see TFS walk down the bench, a la Roy, and smash JM's face in with his goalie stick.

    ReplyDelete
  108. Cherry: "Montreal's got bad karma for running up the score in Minnie!"

You mean like 7-0 and going in to score on the buzzer? Oh, no, that was pure class.

    ReplyDelete
  109. I left the volume on 1 the whole game to keep my aggravation level low all night. Kinda worked. I am no more disillusioned with the team than before the game. In fact I think we protected their lead pretty well there for most of the game.

Now turning the volume up to enjoy watching Ray Emery's comeback vs Haulques. Aaaah now that's hockey!

    ReplyDelete
  110. Can some of the more knowledgable Ladies and Gentlemen explain to a noob me like what the heck happened tonight?
Bonus points for the one who knows why Price still bothers to show up.

    ReplyDelete
  111. @GHF377, the Habs didn't score for themselves, for the fans nor 4 PatCHes.

    ReplyDelete
  112. Dear Doctor,

My team seems to have forgotten how to score, what could cause it.

Well the number one cause for this symtom in pro sports is the team has quit on the coach.

    Thank You Doctor

    ReplyDelete
  113. Limping into the playoffs, again.
WTF was wrong with Carbo? Nothing that wasn't just as wrong with what has followed, and the hockey has been a lot worse and boring. I hate to say it, but maybe the best thing in the long run would be for the system to pull a Claude Ruel and not quite make it. Good bye Chocula. When I look at the standings, I am amazed at the numbers in the Goals For Goals Against column. I am amazed at how much like a team under the line they are. Hostie de calisse de Tabernouche!

    ReplyDelete
  114. Dear Doctor

The coach problem is there a solution.

Yes it can be found here>}.

    ReplyDelete
  115. Three changes for next year

    New Coach Patrick Roy
New center first line Mikko Koviu
New Center second line Joe Throton

New center first line bulldogs Mex

    ReplyDelete
  116. Carey Price stopped 31 shots for the Canadiens, who were shut out in three straight games for the first time since Oct. 23-29, 1949.

    ReplyDelete
  117. After everything, I don't know if anything makes me more mad than listening to JM's post-game. First, he sounds more bored than an atheist in church. Second, it reminds me that the reason he has this job in the first place is due to his language skills rather than his skill. And I'm also reminded that this will continue to be the case in the future.

    ReplyDelete
  118. Q: "Getting back to the Gomez thing, it just seems like he doesn't show up night after night"

A: "Well, this is the second best team in the league, the 4th best goals against. It's a good team."

    ReplyDelete
  119. @Steve. So I don't post, I just read a lot, but I kinda disagree with Joe Thornton. He was a Bruin who also he disappears during the playoffs which everyone on TV says means he chokes under pressure. If TV is correct then that would imply that he couldn't handle the pressure in Montreal even during regular season.

    Like the rest though!

    ReplyDelete
  120. Why is Joe Thornton suddenly a hot commodity? The man's very nature is to disappear in games that matter, never mind the playoffs...

Can I just say FUCK YOU Mike Milbury? Milbury couldn't find any intent in Chara's hit despite the huge history and how Chara was out to get Pacioretty for two fucking games nearly breaking his leg the game prior, but a late hit on Plekanec that spun him around smacking Horton in his fugly face and he KNOWS it should have been a 5, 10 and a suspension?!

And FUCK YOU Don Cherry. I guess that means the Bruins will be shut out 3 games in a row too? After all they were shut out this afternoon. Then it's Praise Holtby Night when the Caps could have but a fucking table in nets and the results would have been the same. What a fuckwit.

Fuck CBC in general. Oh the sadness and the disappointment in their voices during the end of that game they quickly switched to between the Red Wings and the Leaf, mentioning the irony of Bertuzzi being completely inept all game only to score the empty netter and hammering the final nail in their yearly playoff hope.

Habs are still in the playoffs and the standings don't really change despite being shut out in 3 games straight because the Rags have a shitload of shootout wins.

My brother suggests the team goes and has a paintball session.

    ReplyDelete
  121. @DW that would be ironic if we got a player who is a stud in the regular season and dissapears in the playoff, here's hoping all our Magic Men reappear in a couple of weeks.

I think it is a work to rule against Chocula.

    ReplyDelete
  122. We gotta lock up Roy quick, cause when the coalition takes power, the rink will be finished by June, and Canada will declare war if Atlanta does not surrender there team.

    ReplyDelete
  123. Oh everyone stop crying. They're under shock, it's not that they don't care. They care very much. They're just traumatized. It'll blow over.

But no one is listening. Everybody is on paaaaanic mode.

If someone breaks your nose you'd hate it if people started yelling at you: "have you got no pride? Fucking break HIS nose". You're just hurting and you want to go home.

Have some compassion. Do they look anything like the Habs we've learned to know and love for two years? No, of course they don't.

Ah. But trying to calm down Habs fans after a third loss (especially by shutout, even though you don't lose or gain more points, a loss is a loss and a win is a win) is perfectly futile so I'll let you rant.

At least no one can accuse me of being in denial. I predicted both the Boston debacle and tonight's loss. They were part of the plan. The Plan, people.

    ReplyDelete
  124. @McPhee " I want to believe"

    ReplyDelete
  125. @McPhee: If I was paid 7.5 million a year to take a metaphorical punch and possibly get a broken nose, then yes I would respond. These aren't 12 year olds, let's be real. They're very well paid and experienced professionals. If they lose it sucks, but shut out in three straight games (2 of which were supposedly 'statement' games) and very few of them seem to care much. Pens haven't turtled since losing their two best players. Give me a break.

    ReplyDelete
  126. I respect your disappointment, but they didn't lose PatCHes to a broken ankle or even on a hit to the head on an open-ice hit. Those you quickly recover from. PatCHes died before their very eyes with a deafening crunch sound. They heard his neck break. For 4-5 minutes they were convinced he was dead. Those minutes destroyed a good part of their will, it takes time to heal from that kind of trauma. They all literally need therapy, and won't get any, which is the sad part.

They'll come back up when they hit rock bottom as a group. I can't prmise they already have, unfortunately, so brace yourselves for more sucking before it gets any better.

A broken team is a broken team, but the good news is all of this happened during pre-season. They should be back on track just in time.

Ok now I let you cry. Laters.

  128. Life goes on but it sucks nonetheless to wish that the team you support thru thick and thin could muster up enough pride to score ONE FUCKING GOAL FOR PATCHES!!
Chris O'Malley, could somebody not shoot straight to get a flukey deflection in 9 whole 20 minute periods?

  129. Meh.
At this rate I'd rather have Raphael Pouliot over Benoit Pouliot. At least Raphael has some use as a goon that's somewhat capable at playing hockey, and is a Ninja Turtle.
