"Ladies and gentlemen, on stage for your dancing pleasure, the Isles" - Game Preview and Open Thread
Special 1/4 Season Awards Edition

So given the Habs have played 20 games, we thought we'd bring you some lame yet stripperriffic 1/4 Habs Season Awards. Note by "we" I mean me, HF29. Other HF's may disagree. And then they will email me to tell me I suck. We're one happy family!

Before we dive in, here's some basic game info for tonight - 7 PM start on Long Island (Higgins and Komo homecoming alert!). Huet between the stripper poles. In case anyone hasn't noticed, the Isles are good. 11-6-0 and 6th in the East, with a bunch of games in hand over everyone ahead of them. 7-3 in their last 10, great 7-2 home record. DiPietro and his 400-year contract have 10 wins already. I don't like the sound of this. OK, on with the show.

She's really hot and I think she likes me Award - Alex Kovalev. Our MVP of the first quarter. He's elevated the 2nd line to #1 line status and looks like he's having fun out on the ice for a change. He's even thrown a body check or two! But like that hot stripper who you think likes you, he'll just break your heart when you realize it's total bullshit and he was faking it.

Quietly sitting by the bar, but when asked she can really perform Award - Kyle Chipchura. IMHO the unsung hero of the first 20 games. He has quietly gone about his business of being an excellent 3rd or 4th line player, proving to be 100% ready for the NHL.

The bouncer threw him out for being too rowdy Award - Tom Kostopoulos. Feisty, full of heart, defends his teammates. He's been exactly as advertised. I'll take a one-game suspension for instigating any time.

"I'm sorry, Candy is out sick tonight" Award - Michael Ryder, duh! 3 goals through 20 games. Lawyers can't do math, but even we know that can't be good. Give him credit for effort, but effort ain't enough for the guy who should be your leading goal-scorer.

This Molson Ex costs $9? Award - Bryan Smolinski and his $2 million contract. Like Molson Ex, serviceable but in no way worth that price.

6 beers in a bucket for $30 Award - On the other hand, Roman Hamrlik has been worth it. I've said this 100 times already, but you have to go to a game to see how well he plays defensively. And that's even while he plays with Breezer! Markov and Komo get the publicity, but the Hamr has been the rock of the D.

Can both of you fit in this booth? Award - Huet and Price. Despite some shaky play lately, you gotta be happy when you have two goalies with above .910 save % and below 2.7 GAA.

7 lap dances out of 10 for the season so far. 4th place in the East is pretty damn good, but our disinterested play on certain nights of late has to be a concern.

Let's hear your dirthy thoughts on the first quarter of the season and the game tonight in the comments.

  4. I agree 100%. More Family Guy would be freakin' sweet. I nominate HF29 to play the role of Quagmire.

  5. I do believe I have a tatto on my butt so it's perfect. One of my classics:

Auctioner: Our first item is a pair of panties confiscated from a prostitute.
    Quagmire: Fifty bucks.
    Auctioner: She had nine STDs.
    Quagmire: Forty-five bucks.
Auctioner: And when we caught her she wet herself.
    Quagmire: Fifty bucks.

  6. Alrighty we got a game to play!

Boy the Isles have a bunch of numbers retired. I think Nystrom might be stretching it, but otherwise some fine history there

  11. RDS' Pierre Houde (translation):

"WTF is up with Chris Higgins"

    ReplyDelete
  12. Happy for Huet. Good start after 2 bad ones. Decent first period for a road game

ahh, the RDS "opposing player from Quebec" post-period or post-game interview. Bruno Gervais? I don't even know who that is.

  13. Yash. Whatever Pierre Houde just swallowed seemed gooey.

  14. Greg Louganis would have been proud of Hamr on that one.

  15. Miracle on ice - Higgins scores on the road.

    feelin good for a change!

  16. way to go Higgs scoring in front of the home town fans and family!

  17. Did you guys catch the "Oh, la la" muttered by Pierre Houde as they were going to break? He sounds pretty sick tonight. Should be in bed with a Neo Citran and a St.Bernard.

  18. HF33 I caught that O la la! I thought it was a Bleu Nuit ad or something. so weird!

the funny thing is Bégin totally lost control of the puck he wanted to pass. but ill take it

RYDER MY GOD! will you never score??

    ReplyDelete
  19. is it against the rules to put a tiny radio receiver in Ryder's ear while he plays so that Carbo can just scream at him "SHOOOOOOT"

    ReplyDelete
  20. Why is Dimitri on the power play?

    ReplyDelete
  21. Noda, good point. He shold play with a huge dish nailed to his helmet.

    ReplyDelete
  22. RYDER AGAIN. alone in the slot. oy.

I really feel for him now. Its hurting me to watch

    ReplyDelete
  23. Tic Tac ...you get the picture.

  24. I sure hope they play like this on Friday. It will be sweet to see them actually playing well in person. The last time I saw them in Toronto they stunk it up while Carey saved them.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Noda crowssing the border for the game! awesome

But i don't know. Lately it's been one good game, one bad one. And tonight is obviously the good one.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Ha! I've been crossing that border to see the Habs in Buffalo since i was a little kid. Always easier to catch them against an old Adams division rival than the few times they were in Toronto.

Sabres are all over ottawa so far so im thinking they're good game/bad game will be worse than our good game/bad game.

  27. heh 33. it was a shit, thank you very much

Cruising along in the 3rd on the road, everything's just fine (for now)

    ReplyDelete
  28. oh crap!

i guess we can use the "shutout" word now. as in to bad this wasn't a shutout!

    ReplyDelete
  29. I admittedly thought the S word, but I didn't say it out loud I swear. Too bad.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Crappy 3rd period by us, but otherwise just fine. Happy for Huet too.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Is it me or was this the most boring almost 4-0 win of all time?

    ReplyDelete
  32. 33 boring is just fine for the road

    ReplyDelete
  33. Helloooooo everyone!!

HF33 - totally boring. I only saw the third period, because I was at a frakkin' AJBM cocktail. Ugh.

It was made even more sad by the fact that the 3rd was the first bit of live hockey that I've seen since November 5th. I wasn't thrilled with what I saw but, hey, I'll take the 2 points!!

    ReplyDelete
  34. LG AJBM Cocktail arrggghh!!!!! cant tell you how many invites i turned down to it ;)

the first 2 periods were MUCH better. you missed the good stuff.
