"Ladies and gentlemen, on stage for your dancing pleasure, the Broons" - Game Preview and Open Thread

Waiting in line details - 730 PM, TD Banknorth Garden of Love. The TSN-RDS double HD is in effect. Habs have points in 6 straight. While the Bruins lost their last game 1-0, they won 3 straight before that including one over the Devils. Habs have already beaten the Bruins 4 times this year in 4 tries.

Pay your cover charge to - Wicked Bruins Fan (again). When you play a team 8 times in a year, you're gonna have some repeats.

Hot sexy Habs to watch - the usual suspects, notably the Danse à dix line. And Gui! had 2 points including the OT winner against the Hawks. Huet will be in net for the foreseeable future. And Breezer is looking for his 400th career point as he sits on 399, so watch him if you can stomach it.

Hot sexy Bruins to watch - Tim Thomas, after struggling earlier, has a 1.51 GAA in his last four games. Marc Savard is scoring more than a point per game.

The line-up shuffle - Slowinski gets back into the action tonight after being out 14 games, between El Dandy and the Swiss Mister on the 4th line. Greek Lightning and Corey Locke (nickname suggestions?) are healthy scratches.

Broons limping - Bergeron, Murray, Aaron Ward, all out.

Stupid fact not worth mentioning but I am doing it anyway - the 2 starting East D, Markov and Chara, face each other.

Post-game adult entertainment establishment - Centerfolds Boston. Near naked hot chicks on the home page? That's enough for me. It looks very classy, like the lovely lady above, and they have a golf tournament, which sounds fucking awesome.

K let's hear your dirty, dirty thoughts in the comments.

  1. Goddamn Carbo. Sits Greek Lightning for Slowinski? Fucking terrible. He deserves better after all he does for this team.

And why swap Chips for Locke to sit Locke in the pressbox? Was there a two-for-one seat sale at Westjet?

  2. Seriously, 10. Habs have points in their last 6, WTF more does Carbo want?? Kosto has been so consistent and the "heart" of the team on the ice.

  3. You want a nickname for Corey Locke? How about Locker room boy? It seems that's as close to the ice as he gets.

  4. how about one of the following:

    The third Corey
    or "not Feldman or Haim"

  5. Looks like Carbo will play 3 lines tonight ...

Kostopoulos probably played one of is best game against the Hawks. He was all over the ice ...

Breezer scored on a whimp shot and got caught looking on the Hawks 3rd goal. He did throw the body a couple of times with no result.

Bottom line Breezer should be out, Miss Swiss back on D and Tartopopoulos on the 4th. Will give Slowinski a chance ... and they where saying he would be out longer than Begin ...

And I havn't said this one in a while, Leafs suck !

  6. 29, what's the point of a nicknaming a guy who'll be back in the minors in a week? (Sorry I'm still better they dropped Chips for him.)

Habs are ripe for a loss tonight, especially jerking with a lineup that's been winning.

  7. @Panger - that's a good point, even though you're bitter. But noda's "The Third Corey" is quite good

I am really more pissed about Kosto sitting. WTF? Seriously, he is coming off a GREAT game. makes no fucking sense

  8. Have you guys ever studied any psychology? I'm thinking particularly of studies dealing with reward and reinforcement.

In some of those studies, rats were given a lever to push that could release a chunk of food. With some of the rats, they would get food whenever they pushed a lever. With others, it was intermittent, random. Those rats learned that pushing the lever *might* give them food, and it might not.

The researchers found that the rats that always got food only pushed the lever when they were hungry. They were comfortable, they didn't feel the need to push that lever.

The rats with the random food however, turned into obsessive compulsives. They pushed the lever all the time, in case it might drop a food packet.

I'm not sure what all this has to do with the Habs... But rats sure are ugly, aren't they?

  9. @fezworth - makes sense to me

k kids, me and 33 are off for some after-work drinking at Hurleys, catch you in the first...

  10. @Fezworth - Holy shit!! Carbo's a psych major!!

Speaking of ugly, thank God for Markov that he can (okay, sometimes) do purty things on the ice, 'cause wow... is he ever unfortunate looking?

Topic? Sending Chips down to minors for Locke = stupid. Subsequently sitting Locke for the second game after he gets here = moronic. Sitting both Locke and Kosto in favour of Slowinski and (essentially Breezer) = FUCKING RETARDED.

While Slowinski's approach with the media off-ice has certainly been refreshing in its humility (for the reasons why, see Samsonov, Sergei), that ain't gonna help us win games...

  11. ^^

    Proofreading sucks.

There should be an exclamation point after the "unfortunate looking" comment re:Markov.

I should give up trying to be cute and just say what I meant to say:

    Damn he uuuugly.

We now return you to your regularly-scheduled stripper-ogling...

  12. Well, shit. Ovie just signed with the Caps for 10+ years, at 9.5 mil/year. I suppose the dream is over.

  13. W00T!! 2-0! Go Pleks and Mad Max!!

(I wish I was watching the game... *Sniffle* work sux.)

  14. The Habs seem to have it out for Savard tonight. I'm all for getting physical, but try not to break out the Flyer impressions, guys.

  15. just walked in

saw the 2 goals (or at least heard them) while at Hurleys. what happened since? how are we playing?

LG the whole line up thing is just fucking weird. no clue the reasoning for any of it

    WOOO KOVY!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  16. Habs dominated the first, are okay in the second. Pleks bounced a puck in off Chara. A fight seems imminent (although I'm glad they broke up Maxim-Chara because I like Maxim and I don't want him to die).

    ReplyDelete
  17. well we know we don't get any shutouts, so that's ok...

thx for the update msevigny. damn im upset i missed the chippiness!

    ReplyDelete
  18. KOMO!! again!

thank god a whistle. my heart.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Thomas wants that one back, but ill take it

    ReplyDelete
  20. El Dandy, hooray!

    ReplyDelete
  21. Sergei NAILED that guy.

Thank goodness for that goal, now it's just a very tense game instead of an unbearably tense game.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Haha :) Smolinski & Dandy made that one look pretty easy.

    ReplyDelete
  23. well the Slowinski-led 4th line is DOMINATING!

    hehehe

    ReplyDelete
  24. I'll admit it.

I have a soft spot for El Dandy. He has never hesitated to do whatever the Habs asked him to do (defence vs. forward), was always willing to play hard, has been surprisingly effective all year, has never bitched once about the fact that he's been playing a support role on the team, and just seems like an all-around good guy.

Plus, he's fucking hilarious in the Habs question / answer interviews in between the second and third periods.

So the fact that he has two goals tonight makes me even happier than the fact that we CHICKEN WINGED, BABY!!!

Perhaps Carbo will finally think twice before benching one of the team's hardest working players for several games in a row... (or not. Carbo's not exactly a Rhodes scholar...)

Here's hoping Greek Lightening nets a pair during his next game!!

    ReplyDelete
  25. @LG - the players are making Carbo look like a genius. Rhodes scholar. heh. and El Dandy rules!

points in 7 straight. not bad, dammit.

    ReplyDelete
  26. @29 - so long as he continues to make the Carbo face, the man shall remain inherently goofy.

(also goofy? The fact that I'm still at the office.)

(goofier still? Ovechkin's fucking contract and the fact that he negotiated it without an agent. Salary cap my ass...)

  27. Seeing how useful Dandenault is to the Habs, my sister came up with "Handy Dandy" as nickname variant.
