So the newest Ottawa Senator was introduced to the media and all of Ottawa yesterday in a ceremony that we thought was a little much for a 36 year-old enigma. All sorts of stuff about him wanting to play with Heater. That would be interesting.
But what we really got from all his interviews and the stories was that he wanted to stay in Montreal. I mean, just look at the pic above, does he look happy to you? He literally looks melancholy to us. Bob offered him enough money to stay, and he wanted to stay. So why isn't he here? Was it his agent's stupidity? No one can make a fucking phone call?
Anyway, this is it. One last goodbye to Kovy. Pathetic.

Just a little re-post of mine from the last post:
I just still have mixed feelings about his departure. Especially as they showed a bunch of hi-lites of him scoring from the left faceoff circle over the glove.
Hmmm, who else can I think of that is no good high glove? Nope, escapes me for now.
Anyway. DAMN IT KOVY! Why did you have to play 8 awesome games last year and keep me conflicted?! WHYYYYYYYYYY!!!???
Bleargh. It just doesn't look right to see him in that uniform...
My guess: Bob wasn't too unhappy to see him go.
He made a perfunctory offer, but was kind of relieved when Kovalev's agent dithered.
Still, who would you prefer at $5m: Gionta or Kovalev?
@ Boob:
Having never watched him closely, and knowing he's all of 5'3 in skates? Still Gionta.
Rather have Gionta at $5M than Kovy. Assuming he shows up to work every day.
TSN.ca had a headline commenting on the Sens hoping Kovy would bring leadership to the squad. I'm still trying to figure out this leadership that people talk about with respect to Kovy. He didn't set a particularly good example. He didn't keep the Russian kids out of trouble. If you think leadership is being held back from taking a road trip with your team to go on a nice walk in the evening with your GM because you're having trouble trying at work, then Kovy's your man.
Compared to Alfredsson, I don't think Kovy is anything to speak of in the leadership department.
And yeah, I think Gainey was a little relieved when Kovy walked away form the offer. I know I was...
Bob blamed Kovy's agent, but really didn't even bother waiting to hear from him before throwing up his hands and moving on. Blame Bob.
Word verif: untagglu. As in, a monkey named "Untagglu" would manage this team better than Bob.
It's all good people just wait until he goes 17 games without a goal and starts to play his little mind games like he did here in MTL.
The reason we didnt sign him is because the fax machine was down.
I don't blame Bob at all. He had several irons in the fire and one of them said "yes" before Kovy.
Bob's been fucked over before by players or agents who simply used the Habs for leverage, so he didn't wait this time. Good for him.
I won't forgive Bob for Koivu, though.
Amen, Sonia. That was like trading Cal Ripken Jr.
Cal Ripken Jr is the all-time leader in MLB all-star votes, two time AL MVP, multiple gold glove winner, ranked as one of the best of all time at his position.
Koivu never scored more than 22 goals in a season.
Like Koivu, Cal Ripken never won a championship either, so I guess this makes him mediocre...
@Ian Vitro +1
Is it me or did the turtlenecked dude in the previous thread's pic look like our hf29?
@moeman - depends. do we consider him handsome?
@moeman - nah, the turtleneck is all one colour. Not HF29's style.
And Komi is still the traitor....
@ hf29, yup good looking, moody eyes though, NTTIAWWT.
@ Sonia, nice catch, hf29 is a multi-coloured cat.
@ Jared:
Of course, Komisarek is still the traitor. Kovy left on (as per usual with Kovy) baffling and headscratching terms. Komisarek basically gave the Habs a big fuck-you as he bolted from the premises.
We also feel quite differently about the Sens versus how we feel about the Leafs. The Sens don't concern us. We don't hate them like Toronto fans do. (Sorry, SLC. But it's true.)
I don't think anyone could look as non-plussed/trying to look content as this man in this photo. It's like Ottawa has already bored him out of his mind. Maybe the Russian embassy will be open for some late night vodka-fests. I don't know what else he has to live for at this point.
@ Scott in MTL, yup. Also, wait til Kovy realizes they don't play downtown but in the middle of a corn field. I'm thinking AK27's personal plane will be revved up to fly to Montreal post-game, post-haste. Bonus would be if he parks his plane at the Gatineau airport some 2 minutes from my place. I hear he has nice, stewardesses .
I'd be a lot more upset about Komi if he'd gone to a contender or to the Broons.
But he went to a team that won't make the playoffs in the forseeable future, so I don't really care. Plus he'll still have to play Lucic.
Trudat Boob but Dou$harek chose the leaf.
Debates about which team we hate more might well be moot in the near future:
New Nordiques /Peladeau
Peut ĂŞtre Boob but I won't mind hating (and not respecting) two hate-inducing teams, the CBC's and TVA's. Thank God we have the Broons as true arch enemies (be even more fun if the Bs could somehow find a fucking way to win a few more SC series and make it a fair battle) ... on second thought, its even more fun commenting on the Bs total playoff and Cup total lameness. At least they've got Neely in the HHoF (WTF?is that?) and Bourque paraded his (won by an ex-Hab for him) silver mug in Beanstopia.
Where for art thou Kovy!
Know what makes him popular? He's an enigma, people are attracted to that. He could pivot around defenders all day for all I cared. The puck would go in the net eventually, but there were other people on the team that had to play along to help win the damn games.
And I wouldn't worry about Price. Kind of knows all his tricks anyway, being the victim of target practice. Remember in the ASG when he totally called it before Kovy scored? (Also the high-glove thing is getting old, folks. Most goalies are beat by a laser like that anyway).
