Morning Sherwood™ ~ Stuff that'll get a rise out of you

Good morning FHFers. How's the summer goin' for ya?
Our trusted (except when it comes to fine print ice cream offers)
FHFriend 29 is off somewhere painting a deck.
Lucky for us he isn't a CHeap Trick roadie.
2015's version will be played in 6 Canadian cities.
Hope I'm still Solo by then.
The Stanley Cup wanted nothing of ugly Fuckface Horton.
Wonder if his wife is related to Jacques Plante?
Speaking of tomatoes, made these, on the BBQ.

Drink up Habs fans! ~ Vodkov, 2 years, $11.5M (...) (or not)

Habs i/o.

RDS.

~ ~ ~
HF29 here. I have replaced the picture of the nice ass with these less nice words. Want to make it clear THERE IS NO DEAL. I was fooled by my own blog last night (in my defense I was drunk). On CJAD this morning they said they spoke to Vodkov's agent Don Meeghan and it's all bullshit. Point is, don't believe what you read on Twitter or what Tony Marinaro says.

Please accept my apologies for getting marinaro sauce all over the FHF blog. ~ moeman

Seven, bitCHes - Game 7 preview and open thread

Game seven, Habs-Bs. Not much more to say, is there? Guess what, I'm gonna say shit anyway. Don't worry, I'll be brief. I've got meth hits to prepare.

One - 7 PM start from the seventh circle of hell aka the TD Fleet Banknorth Gardening Center.

Two - The difference between the digits 1 and 3 which can be found in the jersey numbers of the Habs' two best players right now. Coincidence? I think not.

Three - The number of wins for each team in the series so far. Where else but FHF can you get this valuable information?

Four - The number of weeks DDD is out. And CHokula is keeping the rest of his lineup super duper secret until after the first period.

Five - Not the number of games Milan Lucic was suspended. He will play tonight. Like you ever doubted that.

Six - The number of skaters a certain Donald S. Cherry threw out there in the most famous Habs-Bs Game 7. How I miss you Danny Gallivan.

Game Fucking Seven - Win or lose, try to keep the post-game rioting to a minimum. The cops are ready for you.

On the brink of a horrible, horrible death - Game 6 preview and open thread

Well this could be it. Not to be the Debbie Downer or anything (that's LG's job!), but Habs now face elimination. Sure, we went 5-1 in elimination games last year, but that was then and this is now and now is not then. The guillotine blade could slice tonight. The ax and the sky may be about to fall. The collapse may be upon us. The ice of the Bell Center could be riddled with necrotizing fasciitis. The long march to Bataan is almost over. The road to Baghdad is paved with blood. Etc., etc. Let's break the last taboo with a death-themed blog post. No one said this would be pretty.

Waiting on death row - 7 PM start from the Bell, where the Habs are 0-2 so far this series in case you didn't know. I don't wish death upon anyone, but if every member of the CBC broadcast crew could suffer some sort of accident in the off-season that is non-fatal yet prevents them from returning next year, I would be ok with that.

DIE BRUINS DIE doesn't have quite the same ring to it as DIE PHUCKTARDS DIE for some reason - thanks to CH-Cornelius for pointing us to the moderately amusing Days of Y'Orr.

"Our remedies oft in ourselves do lie, which we ascribe to heaven." (W. Shakespeare) - closest thing we have to heaven so far in the series is Squid with his 7 points. TFS of course as well, who really can't be blamed for much, especially after he really rocked Game 5. For the Bs, Bergeron, Marchand, Thomas and (gulp) Ryder.

"In the cold, cold ground" (T. Waits) - A Mexican CHicken is in the guillotine for a reason. I would say our team defense has been pretty suspect all series. For the Bs, Krejci and Lucic have only one point apiece in the series. Imagine if they had been playing well. That's a total jinx for tonight.

At least it's better than palliative care - Neither DDD nor CHeez Whiz skated this morning so don't expect them in the lineup. Swiss Mister II, save us! Bs pretty healthy.

Losing your head to the guillotine - The Bs have yet to really lose their head so far this series. Credit to Julien I guess? We need them to do something really fucking stupid to get them off their game.

A fate worse than death - Chris Lee is the ref tonight.

Post-game adult entertainment - Linking to a necrophilia site is beyond even me. Linking to a video entitled "Female zombies craving for sperm", however, is right up my alley (nsfw, obvs).

Widespread Panic, Live in Montreal - Game 4 Preview and Open Thread

Game 4 with the Habs looking to take a stranglehold and the Bruins looking to steal home ice back and turn the tide entirely back towards them.  One fan base will feel widespread panic sometime later tonight ... will it be us or them?

Panic!  At the Disco:
Dance kicks off at 7:00 pm tonight at the Centre Bell, on all the usual suspects.  Take your gag inducing pick of the Canadian Bruinscasting Corporation featuring the xenophobic caveman stylings of former Boston Bruins Don Cherry, Mike Milbury and PJ Stock with senile Bob Cole two minutes behind the play-by-play, NESN and Versus with the homerific idiocy of Jack Edwards, or the xenophobic on the French side of the ledger wackiness of RDS (the D stands for Desharnais!).  Or, sound off.  Whatever works.  Hey, when is CBC bringing back that Punjabi channel?  Questions abound:  Do the Bruins continue to dance with the fat girl that brought them, Tim Thomas?  Will Chara forget to hydrate at another all night rave and dance back into the hospital?  Will Ryan White dance with Milan "I'll fight you when I'm good and ready, as long as you're not really a fighter and I can get the jump on you when you're tied up with another player" Lucic?  Will strippers dance for HF29 and Passover his lap?

Panic Attacks:
Habs are having some success by peppering  Fatso Tim Thomas with shots and waiting for him to give up rebounds bigger than his own ginormous arse.  If Thomas starts getting hot, someone is going to have to drive the net and get something ugly.  Cammy looks to be heating up again, the Captain is doing the job, Big Tits was a welcome addition to last game's lineup.  Bruins top line of Lucic, Horton and Krejci is getting eaten alive by SuperPlexxe, but Patrice Bergeron and Brad Marchand are starting to make the Habs very nervous.

Panic Switch:
All signs point to Claude Julien not being a fan of Silversun Pickups, because he doesn't look likely to go to the Panic Switch and put in Tuukka Rask this evening despite some struggles by Thomas.  Check out some of the conversations over at Eyes on the Prize, where Chris notes that Thomas's virtual lack of any technique leaves him vulnerable to guessing when he's off ... and he looks off.  On the other hand, if Chocula has to hit the Panic Switch and go to Alex Auld, SERIES OVER.  Just saying.

Don't Panic:
Carey Price, Roman Hamrlik, PK Subban and Hal Gill are the Ford Prefect to our Arthur Dent keeping things calm at the back end even when Jaro 2.0 gets a little fidgety.  Bruins without Chara on the ice have no such safety towel and run around like they just heard the Vogons announce they are fragging the planet for a new intergalactic space highway.

Panic Room:  Which dressing room goes full meltdown if they are trailing after two?  After the Habs spirited but still unsuccessful comeback on Monday and Julien's propensity to lose his shit and look like an exasperated idiot on the bench if even the slightest thing goes awry, bet on the Bruins.

Panic Yerreault:
Oh, if only the Habs could sneak a faceoff expert like former skating in quicksand but never lost a draw Hab Yanic Perreault (actually, I'd prefer to sneak in Gilbert Perreault, but whatever) to tilt the possession time a little.  Maybe the possible return of Jeff Halpern might help.

Banking Panic:  If high priced Mexican American, Squid and SuperPlexxe go cold, the Molsons will have a financial panic on their hands knowing extra playoff dates aren't going to put money in their pockets to pay these guys.  Bruins banking panic is coming soon, what with big money tied up in Thomas, Lucic, Chara, and Horton already and decisions to make on Kaberle and Ryder and Savard in a "window is quickly closing" kind of money crunch.

Panique au village:  RDS might resemble this 2009 Belgian-Luxembourg-France stop-motion film if rumours are true and Benoit Pouliot sits for some bloody English dude like Halepern.  But they'll be the only ones because chicken looks like chicken shit right now.  Word on the HIO is Chicken might be getting a reprieve because of other injuries.  Oh shit.  PANIC!!

Got any panicky thoughts for tonight?  Keep them to yourself, Chicken Little.  We're trying to stay positive in here.

FHF Passover Seder (and Game 3) preview and open thread

INT. The tastefully decorated dining room of HabsFan29.

HF29: Thank you all for coming and joining us for the first annual FHF passover seder. I am deligh--- BOONE GET AWAY FROM THAT SCOTCH. We've got four glasses of wine to drink.

Boone: Fuck off.

HF29: Language, Michael. This is a tasteful, meaningful occasion.

Boone: Look you little pissant shit, this isn't the HIO comments section and you're not my dickface of an asshole editor. I will fucking speak the way God intended us to fucking speak.

HF29: As I was saying, I am delighted so many of the Montreal Jewish hockey community has gathered here to celebrate our people's release from bondage. Tonight, we will tell the story of---

Squid: Is this going to take long? I've got somewhere I need to be.

HF29: No no, don't worry. A few prayers, a quick nosh, and you're outta here. Six, seven hours tops.

Squid: Uh, ok. Excuse me, I just need to uh, use the washroom.

Sound of door closing and glass breaking

HF29: Hope he's ok in there. No one else has anything they'd rather be doing, right? Jeff?

CHallah but for the next eight days Matzoh: No no I'm good. I once skipped a game for Yom Kippur, so this is no big deal. Plus I'm injured. I can stay all night, though I should be reclining.

HF29: It's time to ask the four questions. We need the youngest person here. GoldenGirl, what happened to Squid?

GG: (peeking under the table) He just scored! WOOOO!!!

HF29: Put that iPhone away.

GG: I was just, uh, checking on my kids.

HF29: OK now it's time to recall the ten plagues---

A loud BOOM interrupts

Boone: What the fuck was that shit?

HF29: Just the meth lab in the basement. Ignore it. We can now enjoy the festival meal.

Matzoh: Mmm, this dessert is delicious.

HF29: Jeff, you can't eat that Danish I got at a coffee shop. It's passover.

Matzoh: Whoops, sorry about that. I better go to the bathroom to uh, get rid of it.

Boone: I better go with him.

HF29: And now it's time to open the door to welcome Elijah the Prophet. GG, go open the door. LEAVE THAT FUCKING IPHONE HERE.

GG: (opens door) Whoa there's a short little Jewish guy here. Looks kind of like Gary Bettman.

Bettman the prophet: After careful study the results of which I will ignore to substitute my own opinion, this seder is doomed to fail. From now on I decree that all passover seders shall only be held in the Southern States. So it shall be written, so it shall be done.

GG: Back in a sec, just need to use the bathroom.

HF29: (stares at empty table for 20 minutes) That's it, I give up. If only there was someone who could take control and lead us to the Promised Land...

HF29: NEXT YEAR IN JERUSALEM BUT FFS NOT DURING THE PLAYOFFS

Wandering around for 40 years waiting - 6:30 PM start at my cousins'. For the rest of you, 7:30 start at the Bell and of course it's on the concussion-loving CBC. If there's one good thing about tonight for the Jews, it's that it will be mercifully free from the plagues of Cold, Galley, Healy and Cherry.

Keep those un-kosher crackers out of your Stanley Cup of Chowder.

Hot like the desert sands on the Jews' sandaled feed - Mom of 29's brisket kicks ass. And her delicious kugel. Oh, and Squid, Gio, Gomez, PFK and TFS.

Flat like matzoh - The Bruins big forwards (of both size and stature) like Lucic and Krejci have sucked. And their defense is no prize either. Tom Thomas' rebound control.

Bleeding like a slaughtered lamb - no official word that the Shaved Gorilla playing, but he was on the ice this morning so I'm sure he'll go. No word on Tits though he also skated this morning, and CoaCH Moses won't announce his lineup until close to game time.

Post-seder / post-game adult entertainment - You don't have to be Jewish to enjoy these 30 Hottest Jewish Women Under 40.

CBC Hockey Night in Canada Live From Boston! - Bruins Game Preview and Open Thread

Outside TD Banknorth Garden, shots of Bruins fans streaming into the rink, yelling at the camera, Chara and Lucic jerseys and the odd pink Red Sox hat (on the ladies). Ron Maclean voiceover:

Maclean: Less than one year after they suffered a catastrophic semifinal defeat to the Philadelphia Flyers after leading the series 3-0, Zdeno Chara, Tim Thomas and the rest of the Bruins resume their quest for Lord Stanley's Mug on CBC tonight at 7pm in Beantown. Cam Neely watches on from the President's box as the Big Bad Bruins go for some silver to match their traditional black and gold, tonight on CBC Hockey Night in Canada! With me as always is Boston's favourite son, Donald S. Cherry.

Cherry: Whoooaaaaa!!! The Boston Garden loves me. I gotta say, that Karboorlay, he's from the Leafs, that guy is dynomite. And that Chara, Looocic, those guys are just like Bobby and Cashman, who I had back in the day. We're ready tonight, that's for sure!

Maclean: Don, what do the Bruins have to do tonight to get past last year's collapse?

Cherry: Well, you know that sort of thing can make you a bitter, angry, xenophobic jerk if you aren't careful, kinda like it did to me when we lost the 1979 semifinals. You know, kinda like how Leaf fans feel about Kerry Fraser in 1993. Those Leafs though, next year, they're gonna do it, you betcha! That Ryemar, he's somethin'.

Maclean: Well noted. Over to the panel for more on the Bruins.

Panel lead by Maclean with Mike Milbury, Garry Galley, Glen Healy and PJ Stock.

Maclean (out of breath after running up stairs from ice level): First game of the 2011 playoffs for the Bruins tonight, with a supercharged atmosphere due to the recent history between Boston and their opponents. Thoughts?

Milbury jumps in immediately: Well, their opponents are obviously a bunch of cheating, diving, whining pussies who can't even handle a routine hockey play like driving a man's head into the stanchion, hitting him with an elbow pad in a scrap or going into the crowd to wail on a man with his own shoe. Fucking pansies.

Healy: Plus, the Bruins have better goaltending, defence, forwards, size, speed, looks, fighters, celebrity fans, colours and tv advertisements than their opponents tonight, who are all tiny ballet dancers with no heart and pee their pants at the slightest hint of contact.

Stock: I love Bruins. I love ... hockey player. I love ... lamp.

Maclean: Well said, PJ. Love Bruins indeed. But what of the pressure on Boston's opponent's goaltender, who must try to emulate his predecessor who cost the CBC untold millions when we picked another first round matchup to show last season and ignored millions of viewers?

Milbury shouts over everyone: Why, that guy can barely fight. He could have killed Tim Thomas if he was a real man, but he didn't even try to beat him to death with his blocker or a stanchion or a shoe, like any self-respecting Bruin would have. If I was the GM of that team, I would totally trade him for the 2011 equivalent of Oleg Kvasha and Mark Parrish and choose a far inferior, injury prone goalie 1st overall in the draft, ignoring two bonafide 50 goal snipers in the process. That'll teach him.

Stock: I killed a man with a trident.

Milbury: CAUSE YOU'RE A MAN, PJ!!! THAT'S WHY YOU KILLED A MAN WITH A TRIDENT!!!

Stock: I don't know why we're yelling. Loud noises!

Galley: See, that's the problem right there, is the Bruins opponent doesn't have any trident killing skill. They're all busy shutting teams down defensively, getting superior goaltending, trying to be opportunistic on the powerplay. But that sort of thing won't work against this big, tough, talented, stanchion crushing Bruins team, just like it didn't work all season long or last playoffs. They're just not good enough to be a National Hockey League team at all. No wonder they lost every game versus the Bruins for the last 50 years and only made the playoffs due to luck and shootout wins. It's scientific fact that the Bruins are better in every single possible way.

Maclean: Speaking of scientific fact, we've got Cassie Campbell down outside the Bruins dressing room with noted medical expert Dr. Mark Recchi. Cassie?

Cassie Campbell: Right, thanks Ron. I'm here with noted concussion expert and Bruins veteran Dr. Mark Recchi. Dr. Recchi, what are your totally valid and not at all inflammatory feelings about Zdeno Chara's obvious hockey play from earlier this year?

Dr. Recchi: Well, Cassie, if there's anything I learned from my numerous medical degrees from Hollywood Upstairs Medical College, the University of Animal Husbandry of West Monrovia, and Queen's University, plus the stuff I learned through careful study of every single documented case of concussion ever in the history of the world, it's that no one would ever watch a movie ever again after a concussion. And walking with any concussion symptoms or tweeting or even speaking coherently means that the person is obviously faking to get Zdeno suspended. In fact, I would wager all those knee injuries to our opponent's defence are all fake too, since they all seem to be able to give interviews and eat in restaurants, and as my extensive knowledge of medicine shows, those things are impossible with a knee injury. I also notice your lips seem incredibly bright and glossy; you should get that checked because it is definitely polio. I'm a noted medical expert, regularly asked my opinion on greater Boston media outlets, so you should heed my advice.

Cassie: Uh, I'm wearing lip gloss. It's not polio.

Dr. Recchi: Well, that's what I expected you to say. The mind is the first thing to go with polio. Look at poor Eric Lindros.

Cassie: Lindros doesn't have polio, and neither do I.

Dr. Recchi: Aren't you a trooper. Remind me of my good friend John Cullen after he was diagnosed with rabies. Lost all his hair from the leeching we performed.

Cassie: Ron?

Maclean: Cassie, PJ says he has a question for Dr. Recchi.

PJ: Excuse me, Cassie?

Cassie: Yes? What is it, PJ?

PJ: I would like to extend to you an invitation to the pants party.

Cassie: Excuse me?

PJ: [struggling] The... party. With the... with the pants. Party with pants?

Cassie: PJ, are you saying that there's a party in your pants and that I'm invited?

PJ: That's it.

Cassie: Did Milbury tell you to say this, PJ?

PJ: No. Yes. He did.

Cassie: Okay. No. I don't want to go to a party in your pants.

PJ: Very well. Glen, would you like to go to a party in my pants?

Healy: No, PJ.

Cherry interrupts: Ya know who deserves a pants party? Nazdaq Kaldrah, that's who! Why Brian Burke didn't keep this kid up all year is beyond me! Scored 3 goals in the preseason and was a plus 1! And faceoffs! If they had kept that Ziger... uh, Zeegah ... uh, Zig-oh-man-is up to kill penalties and take faceoffs, the Leafs would have won the division! Makes me sadder than when one of our beautiful boys or girls in the army comes home dead because some Liberal pinko cancelled a jet fighter project!

Milbury: YOU KNOW WHO NEEDS TO SHOW RESPECT? THAT KID, YOU KNOW, THE UPPITY ONE. NO SHOWBOATING, NO BACKING AWAY FROM FIGHTS. HE NEEDS TO MAN UP, JUMP INTO THE OPPOSING TEAMS BENCH AND SMASH SOMEBODY IN THE FACE WITH A SHOVEL. NONE OF THIS DIPSY DOODLING, SCORING GOALS AND PLAYING GREAT DEFENCE. THAT'S NOT HOCKEY! DISRESPECTFUL.

Cherry: Ya, that Pee-Kay Sooblab is a real troublemaker! Could learn a few things about respect from a good Canadian boy like Mike Richards.

Maclean: To be fair, I believe PK Subban is Canadian.

Cherry: Not MY Canada, he ain't. Same as all those frogs in Frenchietown. Leafs don't have any of those guys. Just good, solid Canadian boys like Phanoaf and Koolieman and Kessel.

PJ: I ate a big, red candle. It didn't taste like the Kool-Aid man at all.

Maclean: Alright, we're almost ready for puck drop. Predictions for the series?

Milbury: Bruins in 4.

Healy: Bruins in 4.

Galley: Bruins in 4.

PJ: Foreign Bruins.

Cherry: Leafs in six. Let's go!

Maclean: Now, up to Bob Cole in the booth. Bob?

The Boston Globe editorial staff previews the epic hockey series that is Habs-Bs

TWO AND NINE? Can you believe that? The Sox have gone 2-9 to start the season. This may be the most disappointing season in the history of this glorious franchise. This is a disaster. We need to get rid of Tito immediately. There is no doubt he has lost the players in the clubhouse. How else can you explain this epic failure? Sox Nation will not stand for a loser. We once waited 86 years to win a World Series; we will not wait more than five years to win again. Drastic action is needed immediately. The season can still hopefully be saved. The most storied franchise in the history of baseball will not be denied.

Goodness what is wrong with the Celtics. They have fallen all the way to third in the Eastern Conference. This is completely unacceptable heading into the playoffs. This team has just collapsed since the Kendrick Perkins trade. It ruined everything. We even lost to Miami the other day! This team is critically struggling. It's been a whole three years since this team won a championship, and we can wait no longer. Drastic action is needed immediately. Danny Ainge was responsible for the Perkins deal; clearly, he must be fired. The season can still hopefully be saved. The most storied franchise in the history of basketball will not be denied.

On the plus side, only three months until the Patriots report to training camp! We here at the Globe are extremely optimistic about the coming season. Yes, last year's disappointing loss to the Jets in the playoffs still stings, but unquestionably Jets' coach / foot fetishist Rex Ryan must have cheated. Our coaching staff would never do that; Rex Ryan makes us sick. But it's time to look forward not back, and Tom Brady will undoubtedly once again lead us to the Promised Land. It's been a whole seven years since the Pats found Super Bowl glory; there is no doubt that epic drought will end this year. The most storied franchise in the history of football will not be denied.

The sporting event that we here at the Globe are most looking forward to however is the Boston Marathon this coming Monday. So many interesting story lines this year. Can Cheruiyot win his sixth race in the past nine years? And the emotional return of Marathon legend Joan Benoit Samuelson has touched a resonant chord in all of us. But once again, it will be the stories of the lesser known runners, and the sight of 25,000 marathoners lining up to start that will make the Marathon the wonderful spectacle it's been for over a century. The most storied race in the history of running will not be denied.

Bruins-Canadiens Eastern Conference quarter-final starts tomorrow night at 7 PM at the TD Garden

FHF's Meta Habs-Bs Playoff Preview of the Media Previews: RDS

This is the first in a series of previews in which we've decided to go all meta and examine the various ways in which the media is examining the Habs-Bs playoff series.  'Cause, you know, this thing is really flying under the radar and needs more hype...

We couldn't bear to mess with Chantal and François... The woman is a saint for putting up with these guys, and François seems like a good dude, if you ignore his creepy yellow teeth.
We here at FHF HQ take pride in our ability to leave no stone unturned, no dumpster un-dived potential source unexplored. To wit: we have uncovered the "Talking Points" communiquĂ© that has been sent to the xenophobic blowhards the panelists over at l'Antichambre.  It all makes sense now! In this modern day and age, it's clear that no one is actually that blindly nationalistic. They're just following a strict set of talking points/party line that they have to follow in order to stay in those barcaloungers on set.

After sending it off to our crackerjack translation department (or maybe our editorial department - they're basically interchangeable) , here is what we've been able to uncover:

Montreal, April 11th, 2011
Dear puppets and other assorted mouthbreathers,

I know some of you are disappointed.  After all, it's clear that everyone wanted the Montreal Canadiens to playagainst the Tampa Bay Lightning in the Eastern Conference quarter final.  After all, the interviews with notre cher Vincent and notre ami Martin would have been precisely the kind of soothing balm our pure-laine souls need in this time of election crisis when the bastard who can barely speak French the party that pays for premium advertising time on our channel is on the cusp of a majority.

However, we must soldier on and attempt to be enthusiastic about a Habs-Bruins playoff series.  As such, here are some of the talking points we suggest in order to help you better feign enthusiasm:
  • There are some Quebeckers on the Bruins too! Well, okay, only one, if you consider that Savard was born in Ottawa and is really just another shitty franco-ontarian.  Better still, Patrice Bergeron is from Ancienne-Lorette, câlice. You don't get much more pure-laine than that. Which, the Bruins have wisely recognized by giving him an "A" on his jersey.
  • Hey - the Bruins had problems with concussions too! And they affected people who speak French, not asshole Americans who go see shitty American movies and then tweet about it.
  • Speaking of that concussion, make sure you talk about it, but not so much about Max Pacioretty.  Rather, spin it as yet another example of the way in which the NHL and Gary Bettman hate Quebec because they refused to punish Chara.
  • Make sure that the audience knows who the real stars of the team are: David Deharnais and Mathieu Darche.
  • Make sure you refer to Deharnais as "Le Petit DĂ©mon" in order to further cement the fact that he is the team's number one centre and the second coming of Guy Lafleur.  We plan to make him stand on RDS milk crates in order to create the illusion that he is Chara's height.
  • Until further notice, please refer to Darche as "Le Gros Mathieu" in order to make sure that people think of him in the same way as Jean BĂ©liveau. We need to make sure that he is the next captain of the Montreal Canadiens, even if he's in his early 40s by the time that happens.
  • Please refrain from saying anything nice about Andrei Kostitsyn.  We need to have someone to blame when the Canadiens get bounced out of the playoffs and we couldn't give less of a shit about his career.  Ditto for Scott Gomez.
  • If Cammalleri continues to be ineffective, you can start to question his morals and his likeability in the locker room. Otherwise, talk about how wonderful it is that he's taking French lessons and that he has adopted Montreal as his hometown.
  • If Pouliot continues to suck, point out every chance you get that he's not actually from Quebec.  In the unlikely event he starts to score goals again, never EVER mention that he's actually from Ontario and feature many clips of him speaking French.
  • Don't rag on Brian Gionta yet. We just ran one captain out of town, no need to do that to another one yet.  Besides, the little prick bought himself some time by introducing his teammates in "French" to start the season.
  • Make sure you pick up on every little thing that PK Subban fucks up. We don't want the English to corner the market on racist comments, or else we may lose viewership in the Saguenay.
  • If Carey Price doesn't come out as a hero in this series, make sure you show a lot of comparisons to JosĂ© ThĂ©odore in his VĂ©zina year.  But make Carey look like a crappier version of ThĂ©o. Try to find Annie Villeneuve and get her to sleep with him - way cooler and more relevant than a pute like Paris Hilton.  Plus, we can cut to tear-filled interviews with her ex, none other than Guillaume Latendresse!  Maybe that way, we can get Price chased out of the city with pitchforks and torches in order to make way for a French Canadian goaltender - dare to dream people...
  • Make sure to compare the Lightning's playoff stats to the Canadiens' stats, but only if the Lightning compare favourably.  This is especially the case if you choose to compare MAB (*HQ-ordered moment of silence*) to Wizniew-howeverthefuckyouspellhislastnamethatclearlyisn'tFrench.
  • When Bertrand Raymond is on the show, make sure you agree with EVERYTHING he says.
Above all else remember to be objective when it comes to discussing these two teams. Remember that your allegiance is not to either logo but rather to ensuring that the québécois who are wearing either jersey become the true stars for either side.

Besides, what other channel are Habs fans going to watch? CBC? Don't make me laugh.

Please note that deviating once from any of the above talking points will lead to immediate and on-air execution dismissal.

Yours in so-so-so-solidarité,

[name redacted]

Edited to add: many thanks to Lyse a.k.a. @touteparpillee for the idea re: Annie Villeneuve.  You're awesome, Lyse!!

Ten things we LOVE about... the Boston Bruins ~ Preview and Open Thread

REVENGE. BLOOD. WAR. THE BATTLE FOR PATCHES AND THE SOUL OF HOCKEY. These are the themes that are swirling around the sixth and final meeting of the regular season between the Habs and Bruins tonight. At least if you're watching TSN. Blood lust is very exciting! But then we read yesterday that Chara has tried to reach out to PatCHes. What a lovely gesture! Who cares that he has yet to apologize or anything. I'm sure that's exactly what he was trying to do! You always apologize to the guy you almost maimed privately before you do it in public. That's just good manners! And any Canadian loves good manners. So that got us to thinking - a nice gesture, some good manners, maybe there are some things to love about the Bruins. Ten things even! Sure, anyone can list 10 things they hate about a rival, or even 20, but can we find ten things to love? Of course we can! We're drunk and / or high. Anton, drumroll please...

10. Delightful Bruin fan visitors to FHF! Like Cornelius! And Cornelius! And, uh, that other guy! Come back Cornelius.

9. The rise of former Bruins coaches Don Cherry and Mike Milbury to prominent positions at the CBC has granted us precious time to eat and masturbate during intermissions because we have to turn them off.

8. Bruins futility and skinflint ownership long ago forced The Sports Guy to abandon his Bruins fandom. Can you imagine if we had to deal with his pompous ass talking about the Bruins and hockey all the time? Ugh. We've been saved! We love you for that Bs!

7. They've got the second or third best jersey in the league. Sure, their old 3rd jersey was an abomination to mankind, but the original black and gold is solid. And black is always classy, like a tuxedo. Just look at the Raiders!

6. Ice Girls! We love ice girls. Ok maybe they're not Atlanta southern belles or anything, but it takes something special to be one of only two original six teams with ice girls.

5. The TD Garden provides valuable marketing exposure for our Canadian corporations.

4. Mark Recchi! Always nice to see players I loved in a Habs uni remembering to bring up their old club in interviews.

3. Their coach used to be our coach. That counts for something, right?

2. This Bruins Commercial. A giant bear beating the shit out of a Bruins fan and a cute CHick wearing a Habs jersey. What's not to love?

And the number one thing we love about the Bruins...

1. Without them, who we gonna hate?

7:00 PM start from Boston, on the regular blood lust-y TSN. There's nothing to preview, you know as well as I do what's happening, who's good and who's bad and who's injured and who's a game-time decision. Go read a real preview or use the Google if you want actual information. I would just love to see the fucking puck drop already. And for no one to get hurt.

Bring your own drunken-high passive-aggressive love-hate in the comments

OK, get out the pitchforks and torches. Now I'm pissed. (with a little legal lesson thrown in)

"So if you're looking for someone to lead the angry pitchfork mob, you've come to the wrong place. Until the NHL decides Bob McKenzie is right and gives Chara a token one-game suspension. Then we can go apeshit."

- me, in the last post

So I don't need to tell you that the NHL decided that it was even more of a pussy than Bob McKenzie. At least Bob thought Chara would get a couple of games. The NHL's wheel of justice landed on zero. Zero games. Zero fines. Zero condemnation of a sickening, sickening act. One that has left one of the brightest young stars the team has in a hospital bed, with a fractured C4 vertebrae and a severe concussion. PatCHes won't play again this year, and may never play again. He may never be the same person again. So before we go apeshit, let's once again remember what's important here - PatCHes. Please get well. We're hoping and praying for you.

On to the apeshit.

Actually, let's get to the legal lesson first. Bear with me here, it's important. Let's start with one of our resident lawyers, Panger, who wrote the following in an email to me and HF10, that was sent before the ruling came down:

I’m not sure that Zdeno should get away with that hit regardless of whether he “intended” to nearly kill him. Frankly, I doubt he intended to seriously hurt him. But the fact is that he’s 6’9, has been playing hockey his whole career, and ought to have known the potential danger to Patches. Isn’t the rationale behind the blind-side head shot rule to protect players when they are vulnerable? How much more vulnerable could Patches have been? But did Chara turn away? No, he clearly rubbed him out. He knew it; he didn’t care about the consequences. Reckless disregard. Maybe it’s not first degree murder, but it can still be murder if you’re reckless. He’ll get two games and someone will have to be killed on the ice for the NHL to start protecting its players.(emphasis added)

A criminal lawyer will tell you that you need to prove two things for a guilty finding - the "actus reus" and the "mens rea". The actus reus is the criminal act. I think we can all agree that Chara performed the act. Want proof? Here:

Mens rea literally translates to "guilty mind." The average non-lawyer person thinks that the guilty mind means intent. The NHL thinks it too. I walk into my girlfriend's house and put a bullet in her head because she was sleeping with my best friend (I'm the jealous type). I intended to pull that trigger. That's easy to understand. But intent is not the only mens rea. Depending on the crime and jurisdiction, you've got all sorts of other mens reas. Two of the most common? Recklessness and negligence. You get into a car drunk and kill a guy? Sure, you didn't intend to kill him, but damn fucking right by getting into a car and driving drunk you were reckless, and you are guilty. In Canada, if you are negligent and your actions cause someone's death, you are guilty of homicide (s. 222(5)(b) of the Criminal Code). You never intended to kill someone, but you are still guilty of murder.

None of this means anything to the NHL "brain" trust. Most of whom, I imagine, are lawyers. But their ridiculous fascination with the phrase "intent to injure" has gone beyond the perverse. To the point where a 22-year old kid almost got killed with zero punishment to the person responsible.

Now Mike Murphy, NHL VP of hockey operations, is not a lawyer. But he's still a fuckface. Here's what he had to say: "I could not find any evidence to suggest that ... Chara targeted the head of his opponent". Right. No evidence. Exhibit A:

No contact to the head there! FuckMurphy continued: "with both players skating in the same direction and with Chara attempting to angle his opponent into the boards." Right. Just a normal check into the boards! When patCHes was nowhere near the fucking puck. Not to mention that if they were both skating in the same direction, Chara would have been staring right at the fucking stanchion.  He would have known what he was about to do. FuckMurphy continued: "This hit resulted from a play that evolved and then happened very quickly." Of course, hockey is a slow game! But this play happened so fast who knows what happened! And one more: "I also took into consideration that Chara has not been involved in a supplemental discipline incident during his 13-year NHL career." Well fuck me gently with a chainsaw. He's just a prince! And the next time he pulls some sort of shit, he still won't have been involved in a supplemental discipline incident. So no punishment then either! I personally have never been disciplined for chaining a stripper to a bed in my basement. So when I do that, no discipline for me!

My rage is no longer targeted at Chara, or the Bruins, or the violent state of the game that seems to excuse this kind of stupidity. My rage is directed squarely at the NHL, who have taken one of the most sickening things I've ever seen in my lifetime and turned it into a fucking joke, just a normal hockey play. I am fucking pissed. I know you are too. What do we do? I don't know. CJAD has started a Facebook group that wants "justice" for PatCHes. Unfortunately, justice in this case seemed to have been lost in a wave of NHL stupidity. But we have to find a way to channel this anger. I'm open to suggestions. It's not just for justice, it's not just for revenge, it's not just for PatCHes. It's for the state of the game.

PatCHes himself said it best: "I'm not mad for myself, I'm mad because if other players see a hit like that and think it's okay, they won't be suspended, then other players will get hurt like I got hurt."

Amen, PatCHes. Again, get well. We'll be mad for you.

Get well, patCHes (oh yeah, Habs 4, Bs 1)

I have to be honest with you. I've been lying in bed awake for three hours, dreading to write this post. When we decided at FHF headquarters eairler this week that I was writing the review of the Bs game, I was so stoked. Now, frankly, I wish I wasn't a Habs blogger.

I kid, I kid, I love this place and all of you guys. But really, I'm just dreading giving my opinion here. No matter what I say, it's going to be wrong. Everyone will disagree with it. Puck Daddy and other hockey blogs will link to this with the "FHF says that Chara hit was dirty" or "FHF believes Chara wasn't intending to injure" or "FHF says Chara is a big fat shaved gorilla". That's just way too much responsibility, and I don't want it. All I ever wanted to do was have some fun and make some jokes and ogle some half naked chicks.

So before I get this over with, let's take a step back and remember what's important here - Max patCHes is lying in the Montreal General Hospital. No matter what you thought of the hit, the aftermath was scary. You seriously could have thought he was dead. His eyes were closed and he didn't move for what seemed like an eternity. For 15 minutes there, I literally felt sick. Thank goodness the Habs organization knows how to use the Twitter machine, and we found out soon enough he was alive, conscious, and moving his limbs. This morning the reports have him suffering a concussion. Compared to death or a broken neck, that's great news. PatCHes, we're all thinking of you. Get well.

OK enough dilly-dallying, here goes. Hmmm...
*looks around*
*makes coffee*
*pours coffee*
*adds shot of Irish whiskey to coffee*
*drinks*
*drinks Irish whiskey straight from bottle*

OK, seriously, here goes. All I can tell you is what I see in the video. And believe me, I've watched it about a 396,567 times by now, on TV and YouTube, in fast speed in slow-mo, backwards and forwards and upside down. Here's what I see. Chara maybe starts hitting Max with his shoulder. However, pretty quickly that shoulder becomes a forearm to the head / neck area, and that arm extends, pushing the head / neck area away. And it's not like you can make the excuse that Chara towers over him, patCHes is 6'2", a giant among Habs forwards. Fact - Max did not have the puck. So what do I think?

Sorry sports fans still anxiously awaiting one stupid blogger's opinion, I still don't know. That may seem like a (possibly drunken) copout, but here's the problem. As HF10 wrote in an email last night:

"Ugly, reckless, stupid yeah. Malicious? Christ I hope not."

That's the thing, you can't really know what's in a player's head, can you? The reactions to this have varied from "a pretty banal hit that just happened in the wrong place" (Big fat Bob McKenzie) to "Chara knew exactly where he was and what he was doing and was getting even for Max's little shove in the back after that OT winner in the January game" (antiCHambre). Chara has denied he had any intent to injure. Do I believe that? Well, no, but I frankly have a hard time believing that even a shaved gorilla wanted to see a player killed or paralyzed. I think Arpon Basu summed up my feelings nicely: "I can't convince myself that Chara wanted that exact outcome. He wanted something, but not that."

So if you're looking for someone to lead the angry pitchfork mob, you've come to the wrong place. The problem is, this is just Day 1 of this discussion. We've all got to take a deep breath, be rational and civil, and politely disagree with each other. Until the NHL decides Bob McKenzie is right and gives Chara a token one-game suspension. Then we can go apeshit.

Oh yeah, Habs played a dynamite hockey game, using their skill and speed to cruise to a 4-0 lead before the incident. Too bad a dandy 40 minutes was forgotten in 2 seconds.

Pretty Hate Machine - Bruins versus Canadiens Game Preview and Open Thread

Hatred is the madness of the heart. - Lord Byron

The Bruins. Tonight. 7:30 on RDS, TSN-Habs and NESN. The first meeting since the black and gold went with their usual modus operandi bullshit 70's throwback tactics in front of their baying, loutish fans in that cheap-ass rink they own. Both teams remember the last meeting, but only the Habs remember that they've won 8 of 9 versus the their ancient rivals. Canadiens have won four straight, Bruins six. Revenge? Maybe. Hatred? Definitely. The Pretty Hate Machine starts now.

Hatred comes from the heart; contempt from the head; and neither feeling is quite within our control. - Alfred Schopenauer

The Bruins stir feelings of hatred more than any other. The Leafs? A hate born of national pride, but tempered by years apart. The Bruins and Canadiens have played more games against each other than any two franchises in NHL history and not one of them has been pleasant. Grown men froth at the mouth at the sight of a Bruins toque on the Metro or a Habs jersey in their local Southie pub. Familiarity breeds contempt; contempt begets hatred, hatred gets out of control quickly. Richard/Laycoe. Lafleur/Milbury. Nilan/Byers. Jonathan/Bouchard. Canadiens/Bruins always teeters right on the edge and it is the hate that does it.

To enjoy the things we ought, and to hate the thing we ought, has the greatest bearing on excellence of character. - Aristotle

Why do we hate the Bruins so? We hate because Eddie Shore was a dirty cheap-shot artist, because Jonathan, Wensink, O'Reilly and Milbury brawled their way through the 70's, because Esposito, Orr, Bourque and Neely were stars, because Neely always broke Montreal's back with a shot over Roy's glove, because Lucic demolished Komisarek, because Cheevers and Moog and Thomas and Frankie Brimsek gave the Canadiens fits. Because Bruins fans piss on visitors to their rink. Because the Boston Garden was a cramped, rat infested cesspool and the TD Banknorth visitors dressing room is the size of a closet. Because B's fans are proud of their team's lunchbucket, beat em in the alley ethos. Because for 100 years the Canadiens have emphasised Gallic flair, speed, skill and firewagon hockey and the Bruins have spent almost as long trying to choke the life out of it. We hate because Zdeno Chara is still among the league's best, because Tim Thomas is having an otherworldly season, because for all our taunts about Lucic being a talentless thug, he's on pace for almost 40 goals and we would kill to have someone like him.  We hate because being a Bruins fan shows a deficiency of character that can not be redeemed.  Because cheering for the Canadiens is a virtue, a guiding light, a truth.

Let them hate, so long as they fear. - Lucius Accius Telephus

It is better to be hated for what you are than to be loved for something you are not. - Andre Gide

Why do the Bruins hate us so? Hatred is often born of fear - and the Canadiens as a franchise have often been something to fear. Many a Bruins team has been swept aside by a Canadiens team that was more talented, but it is the shared history of talented Bruins teams being upset by heavy underdogs (1971, 2002, 2004) or being beaten by the slimmest of margins when the talent equation was nearly identical (1977, 1979, 1989) due to bad breaks, boneheaded mistakes, or Forum ghosts that tears a seam in the Bruins heart. They hate because they cannot win. They hate because Montreal's light continues to shine against their dark. They hate because Montreal stands up to bullying and triumphs more often than they lose. They hate, because as Lord Byron noted, "He who surpasses or subdues mankind, must look down on the hate of those below. " For most of their existence, the Bruins have been subdued. Their hatred is for what the Canadiens were then, and are now. The Canadiens are not the Bruins.

We have enough religion to make us hate, but not enough to make us love one another. - Johnathan Swift

If you hate a person, you hate something in him that is part of yourself. What isn't part of ourselves doesn't disturb us. - Hermann Hesses

Both franchises hate because deep down, despite their divergent philosophies, there remains a part of the other in each. Montreal harbours a dark side that the Bruins bring out. Montreal fans revel in the memories of John Ferguson, tough-as-nails Dickie Moore, Larry Robinson's mystique as a fighter, Chris Nilan and John Kordic. The solution to Zdeno Chara and Milan Lucic was supposed to Georges Laraque. Shouts for Gauthier to call up muscle from Hamilton for tonight's game were deafening in some quarters. The Canadiens darkness is ever-present; nowhere does it manifest itself more clearly than in the days leading to a Boston game. In contrast, Boston's darkness has always needed the light to guide it. The Big Bad Bruins would have been no more than an afterthought without Orr and Esposito's offensive fireworks. Gentleman Jean Ratelle, Rick Middleton, Brad Park? All lauded for their exemplary play and conduct, despite their allegiance to black and gold. All the Lyndon Byers, Keith Crowders and Don Sweeney's of the world wouldn't have lifted the Bruins to Cup finals in the late 80's and early 90's without the talents of Ray Bourque. Even patron saint of overrated power forwards Cam Neely needed soft-as-tissue Craig Janney or passer extraordinaire Adam Oates. The current Bruins go nowhere without all everything centre Patrice Bergeron, smart vet Mark Recchi and Chara. Boston hates because no amount of bullying, brawling and thuggery wins without skill to guide it. Both clubs share parts of each other's religion, but never fully embrace the aspects they need from the other. They hate that part of themselves almost as much as they hate the image on the other side of the divide.

I hate victims who respect their executioners. - Jean-Paul Sartre

There is no honour in Milan Lucic fighting Mike Komisarek after Komisarek's shoulder was injured. Or in his engaging players already involved with others. Or his refusal to answer when called. There is no honour in Greg Campbell using a weapon on Tom Pyatt, or John Boychuk continuing to hit Jaro Spacek as he lay on the ice. There is no reason to respect Zdeno Chara's cheapshots, or Claude Julien's complaints or bush-league move of putting out goons to end a game. The Bruins have spent the better part of a century trying to smother the Canadiens in their sleep. There is no respect on their part, and as such, they deserve no respect in return. It's possible that the Bruins will win handily tonight; that they will bully and beat the Canadiens in scrums and on the scoreboard. That won't garner respect. Better Bruins teams than this one have fallen at the final hurdle. The Bruins have tried to be executioners to the Canadiens for their entire sorry existence and HAVE NEVER FINISHED THE JOB.  One should not respect an executioner.  One must refuse to be a victim.  Montreal time and again has refused.  They do so again tonight.

My hate will die with you. - Robert the Bruce, Braveheart

Tonight, our hate lives again. Win or lose. First or second. Our hate sustains us until the next. Montreal has its weapons of choice. Boston has its own. Fuel for the Pretty Hate Machine is never in short supply.

sCHtv - Farm Team Report ~ BUF 3 - Hamilton 2 (SO) ~ Horse Hooey Game Review

Well good afternoon' FHFers, I call you FHFers because who the hell else reads these game reviews? Its a bit past 5PM and this is your Farm Team Report featuring players drafted or acquired by Billy Bob Gainey and Trevor Sol Timmins. You almost need a programme or an AlmanaCH to figure out all those new CHaracters in their blue-blanc-rouge duds. Desharnais, Nash, Subban, Price, Pacioretty, White, Weber, Pyatt. Five of the Canadiens' 18 skaters began the season in the AHL.

CHicken elbows ~ Pouliot is proving it with his stick and his shoulders.

Ham-fisted hocks ~ Couldn't get more than two twine twinges on AHL call-up Jhonas Enroth.

JMs Jowels ~ Flappin' the 'System' after the 2nd period. Quit corralling them CHocula.

HatCHed CHickadee ~ DDD, so cute, so tiny, so diminutive you just want to squeeze him.

Turd Blockers ~ Looks like the Sabres figured out TFS™'s weak spot (I miss the days when mcsplooge said the book on Carey was high glove-hand). Lucky Craig 'Cowpie' Rivet didn't get a shot.

Buffalo Bellies ~ Holy cow can these bullshit artists milk it in a shootout or what?

Loose Lips ~ Winnipeg-based farmhand lehab took some of the blame but seeing as he's in Winnipeg we say he's suffered enough.

Magic Maple Beans ~ Someone gave them to the leaf, who beat the Bs, in regulation, allowing the Habs to be virtually tied for 1st. Orphaned Russian Habhand Gabrovski wins it. Forgotten son Guy BouCHer's team got a pity point too.

Inflatable Sheep ~ English cable tv sCHepherds tsn have lost their fucking way. Can we trade them?

High on the Hogs ~ Is it me or is Michel Bergeron (who has taken ownership of DDD's career) getting really fat? Speaking of fatheads, can Bluet embarrass himself more?

Goat Futures ~ Trade deadline is Feb 28th. Make some hay Pierre.

Fertilizer Sale ~ How many times must the Buffalo coach shoot shit at the refs? Enough for them to apparently apologize to him. Fuck that, time to blow up Lindy Ruff, real good.

Farmer's Daughter ~ Here she is. Don't touCH her!

Where's Kessel? ~ Habs find 3 goals, leaf can't find the back of the net ~ Game Review and Open SearCH for Phil

Well that was fun kids, especially glenn healey's sad attempt at highlighting a laughingstock leaf instead on concentrating on the game at hand. Oh wait, its hnic. Production meetings at the cbc must be hilarious. Imagine a hack like healy asking for special graphics and a special 'tracking' device. Some schlub in Toronto (I know, Centre of the self-aggrandized Universe, aka CotU) has the added workload to please their leaf fan lemmings. Love the sCHadenfrude. So in the spirit of the Ke$$elTracker™, lets find out what else happened last night.

Where's your integrity/credibility ? ~ Go figure, toronto-based media house of mirrors slagging PFK! for being 'called out' by burke's latest rehab project. Hopefully PFK! rehabs Loopy on Feb. 24th (I'll be at the game!). tsn actually freeze frames the play, puts a focused light on Loopy's helmet and whines, whines, whines that PFK! is disrespectful. Fucking morons.

Where's the respect ? ~ Nice blindside hit on PatCHes, leaf #2 Dman (hnic reminds us that fLuke schenn leads in hits but failed to mention that he also leads in giveaways, this on a team that ices Dou$harek).

Where's our rival ? ~ In Boston. The toronto-based media funhouse still clings to the idea that their storied leaf matters. We laugh at you, not with you.

Where's the 3 stars ? ~ DDD (heard Gio! call him that on post game show) potted a beauty and passed a perfect play to Pouliot, who was imitated with an almost similar goal from Captain America (no where to be found on the US Olympic team, wonder why?). DDD was also 12 for 16 on face-offs. Track that hnic.

Where's your tax money spent ? ~ The Ke$$elTracker™, brought to you by hnic, cuz they just gotta put the focus on their team and give their audience a nugget. How'd that work out?

Where's bob ? ~ Still cold.

Where's Crotch's Corner ? ~ Mr. Warmth was in WhiteHorse with his buddy ron mchudsonbay, watching, wait for it, hockey fights.

Where's the standings ? ~ Habs' Record is 31-20-6 2nd in Northeast, 6th in East, 9th in the League. The leaf is 4th, 12th, 26th but they can still mathemagically make the playoffs.

Where's the code ? ~ In milbury's shoe and boyce's blue&white birdcage. That fuckfaced leaf took offense to PFK!'s smile and shot the puck at him. Where's collie ?

Where's the net ? ~ The leaf never found it giving TFS™ his 6th shutout this season, 2nd vs. the leaf this season and 10th in his young career (and the leaf gave up it's 9th against this season). NB - healy and cold both made sure to mention the 'word' during the play. Fuckers.

Where's blowhard burke ? Is it me or did the hnic stuckonleafzoomcam not spot his fat white pasty face?

Where was 29 ? ~ Away. Maybe ménage-à-ovenmitting Kristin?

Where's the mustard ? ~ Too muCH? meh, not enough.

Where's the post-nekkid-slumpbustin'-guy hot babe pic ? ~
Josie Maran
