It's official, Habs have signed TFS to a 2-year deal. As per club policy, financial terms yada yada, but Team 990 is reporting $5.25 mill over 2 years.
Hurray I guess? This seems anti-climactic for some reason.
MEDIA-WHORING UPDATE! I just recorded an interview for CBC Homerun, which will be broadcast today "sometime between 3 and 6 PM". Oy. It was more about A Goat in Vermont than TFS though.

Hooray because now the media (francophone) can focus on the Goat beating the tax man and commuting from Vermont. If only someone had suggested that to the Carbonneau's as a way around the school thing. So let me get this straight- Canadian gets permission to work in US, then can get lower taxes on Canadian earnings by commuting over the border.
Time to spay and neuter TFS™.
@moe
I'm sure the rodeo took care of that.
So in other news, Halak will be at Fairview shopping center on Saturday afternoon to sign autographs for charity. I should go, but I can't be arsed.
Is it too early for a drink?
Good one GG.
BTW I really like how you drew Carey in that pic.
uh moey, i hope that's rhetorical. i've been drunk for hours by now
@Moey, "Is it too early for a drink?
"
No. Never. Too. Early. Celebrate.
WV = rentie, as in will TFS™ succeed or just be a rentie until the trade deadline ...
29 should turn ON the leading Caps on his iPhone.
Wow, the Goat sure had overwhelming praise for Carey:
"He has proven that he has what it takes to be a good goaltender in the league, and we are confident he will perform to the best of his abilities for years to come...."
That sounds like what you say just before you cut someone loose, not just after you sign them to a contract.
But hey, I guess it's better than the second coming of Jose T. But I still can't figure out why the Goat didn't pick up Marty Biron.
I learned one important lesson this week, don't read GG's posts late at night after a couple of hefty Grand Marniers.
GG's bladder had fallen out and somehow Steve Jobs was responsible. I thought Holy fuck, somebody once told me that could happen. Rather inconvenient if you're in the middle of doing your groceries.
Thankfully, I read it the next day sober. You had me worried GG!
Listening to the TFS™ telconf and its a gas to hear the pure wool media dirtbag richard labbĂ©e go to the negativity well once again. Did I mention he is a dirtbag? He's always a fucking liar.
@moe,
I'm listening to Melnick, you shoul hear some of the crap. Agree with Mitch all the way, you're either a fan of the Habs or your not. Why do people crap all over Pricey. It blows my mind.
TFS™ signed off with a "Merci".
I think I just heard BRs fat head explode.
@moey
Thanks for the concern. Bladder within range of where it should be although my gym friends at skip rope class would probably disagree with that sentence.
"He has proven that he has what it takes to be a good goaltender in the league, and we are confident he will perform to the best of his abilities for years to come...."
Huh? I won't deny TFS had potential but he hasn't proven a thing to me.
I was expecting Price to go "duuuude" at least once. Oh well.
Yay! Now people can shut the fuck up about it already--wait...now they'll spend the next two weeks talking about the money or some shit that's irrelevant. Has Habs I/O exploded yet? Troll City.
DROP THE PUCK ALREADY PLEASE!
wv. The snerve of some fans...
TWO YEARS!!! SERIOUSLY!!!
...*WHAT*..! too early to PHuking dranks sumptin' , that's redonk dude
Alright, i have an epic rant to do.
I am SICK and TIRED of the whole Price VS Halak thing, seriously people, GET OVER IT! It's annoying as fucking hell "Price hasn't proved a thing?" What? Aside from last season which, i admit, was not that good, the guy has been in the top 5 save percentages every season. He posted multiple shutouts against Boston in their series and the ONLY team he's ever lost to in the playoffs is the Flyers, coincidentally the same team Halak lost to.
And people saying we're over-paying price should get their heads out of their asses. I mean you give the guy the starter role in Montreal, you tell him "HEy! You're our MAN!" And you wanna pay him 1mil? That's just a slap to the face if i ever saw one. You make him your number 1, you pay him a number 1's salary. Plain and simple.
"Price supporters have a short memory" Oh do we? Why? Because we "forget" what Halak did during the playoffs? No, we don't forget. We also didn't forget how INCREDIBLE Price played during his first 2 years and won't let one "meh" year ruin all that. I mean a .916 (I think?) save percentage isn't what i'd call disastrous.
And to be honest, we could've traded either Halak or Price i would've been fine either way. I mean people seem to forget, we chose PRICE over Halak... I mean hell, if Price or Halak are our "second" options, we're far away from certain teams where their second option is Lalime or some nut. We don't exactly find ourselves in a losing situation here.
And last but not least, we have 23 other players on the team! Could we PLEASE, please please please pretty please with a cherry on top talk about THEM for a change?! For FUCK'S SAKE i wanna talk about ANYBODY but those two for ONE SECOND!
/rant
WV: syncerre... Yeah, that's an easy one
@ FToast
If everyone just finds another form of release for their pent up emotions about Halak vs. Price, it should die down. Except for the rate Montréal vs. St. Louis game.
It's going to be okay, people.
Actually it was between Halak and Pleks.
Who do we have to replace Halak? We have Price. Let's get something good for Jaro and move on (which they did: big young top draft pick center/winger and big young gritty ass kicker).
Who do we have to replace Pleks? Uh.......Ben Maxwell?
Any Habs rumours?
Oops. Sorry, wrong site.
@moeman: "drew Carey". Just so ya know, somebody got it. Or maybe everybody got it and chose to ignore it...
It is way too fucking hot here on the east coast. And we're waiting for Hurl as I like to call him (Hurricane Earl). Gotta head out and get me some propane. That's the extent of my 'hurricane preparedness'.
2.75 per. Probably about .5 per too much but whatchagonnado? On second thought, pretty damn cheap for TFS.
Oh, I noticed yesterday that RDSHD is now available in NS. Which is awesome, because a) I don't watch low def anymore and b) I understand that CBC won't have their digital signal ready for the maritimes by August 31, 2011 and therefore we'll be totally be without CBC coverage for about a year unless CRTC grants an exemption. No CBC for a year! No Coronation Street! No Nature of Things! No Tudors! No Strombo! OMG OMG OMG!!! Wait. No Ron McLean, Don Cherry, Bob Cole (if he's still alive), PJ Stock or Glenn Healy! WOOHOO!
wv: Is the FHF blogivin away free ice cream and/or meth this year, or just more empty promises?
I wonder if Jaroslav Halak will sign my Carey Price rookie card at Fairview tomorrow? Reminds me of the Simpsons episode where Comic Book Guy attempts to sell Millhouse a photo of Sean Connery signed by Roger Moore.
P.S. Fuck,shitty,cheese-tits (as per FHF.com policy)
I just want the puck to drop alreadyyyyyy
Steve said
I got a Halak T Shirt at the Bell Center for only $15.00, so I am glad he was traded otherwise it would have cost me double. TFS and PFK, LEGO, and Squid, no PP, and everyone else healthy, yes it will be a parade on the usual route this summer.
Here are the stats of four NHL goaltenders during their first three years in the league:
2.80 GAA, 0.914 SV%
2.74 GAA, 0.915 SV%
2.72 GAA, 0.907 SV%
2.73 GAA, 0.912 SV%
Two of them belong to the gold- and silver-medal winning Olympic goalies of Team Canada and Team USA, Roberto Luongo and Ryan Miller. One of them belongs to Jaroslav Halak. And one of them belongs to Carey Price.
Try to match the stats to the name, if you dare.
Halak, Price, Miller & Luongo, howdido?
WV: How'd I do.
Roma tomorrow, "Ladies and Gentlemen, Mr. Natural has left the building".
arrivaderci mr. natural!
Ciao, Bello, Signore Naturale. (NTTIAWWTi!)
@ Mr Natural
Close. Halak, Luongo, Miller, Price. Not a whole lotta difference, though...
Enjoy Italy's natural beauty(ies).
For what it's worth...I understand that while he was home here in Cape Breton, Al MacInnis admitted that he felt Montreal fared the best in the Halak deal. It all remains to be seen, but it's nice to hear a comment like that from someone in the Blues' front office.
