HF29 goes to Newark and comes out alive - Devils 2, Flames 1 (SO) and Habs 4, Kings 1

The pre-game excitement at the main entrance was palpable
So last night, thanks to a generous uncle, yours truly was thrilled to head into the heart of the urban nightmare that is Newark, New Jersey, for the Devils and Flames. I'll just make a couple of quick observations before I get to the most important part of this story:
  • The Devils are terrible. I mean TERRIBLE. They have no offense and no defense. Yes, they won the game in a shootout but for the second and third periods, they did even less than the Habs did against the Flyers. And the Flames are no Flyers. They're terrible too. All in all, a terrible game, were it not for a PP in OT that generated some offense finally;
  • If you want to complain about Gomez, go watch Kovalchuk. He did absolutely nothing all night, and he makes way more than the Mexican. I feel better now;
  • The Prudential Center is an outstanding arena. I walked around even up to the upper deck, and the sightlines are amazing. Not a bad seat in the house;
  • Most importantly, there is room to MOVE AROUND. Wide, spacious aisles. Space to walk or stand behind the last row of any section and watch the game. Wide, spacious concourses with tons of concessions and SPACE for fuck's sake. Did I mention SPACE? This is one of the concourses DURING INTERMISSION:

  • Now admittedly there were not 21,273 people there (13,202 according to ESPN) but seriously you could put 40,000 in those hallways they'd still have room. Fuck I hate the Bell Centre;
  • Almost everyone wears Devils gear. Quite impressive;
  • Enough people understood my Kansas City Scouts jersey and its significance and told me how cool it was. This is a hockey crowd, no question. They booed at the right time, they cheered when they felt the Devils needed a boost (the whole game basically) and they didn't need any explanations about what was going on. Good crowd, even with their team sucking.
And now, the important part of the story. The greatest picture in the history of the internet (well, for me anyway):

That's of course yours truly and the Devils Dancers (well, half of them). They were quite friendly. Hysterically, the one to my left tried to cover up the KC scouts logo before the pic was taken, because she said that "only Devils logos can be in pictures with us." I explained to her and her whole gang the history of the Devils. They were so impressed we all went and had sex together after the game. The jersey is a babe magnet.

Oh yeah, Habs win 4-1, and Lego is finally rewarded with a goal. I heard it was a good game. Whatever, I was busy having sex with cheerleaders.

@29 look forward to reading the whole story in Architectural Digest. Dont like the snot yellow colors though.

And GG that documentation of the worlds first Lego NHL goal really hit the funny bone. I will attempt to get Lego to sign it.

That Kansas City Scouts jersey is freaking catnip for the ladies. It's like a puppy times a thousand.

Great, now I have laughed out loud at the office. That's a danish! HAH!!

Seriously, congrats to Lego for tying BGL on the Habs all-time scoring list!! WOOHOO

@29 - Not sure f this is right or not, but I'm feeling v ery proud of you. As the English often say over here..."Well done my son, Well done!"

None of those cheerleaders are hot. I even went to their website and none are hot. I live in the bush so they are hot in the, "Looks like they shower regularly and have all of their own teeth," kind of way but after the winter they'd be out the dor. Fuck the Leafs.

I hate to agree with a hit and run poster, but I wonder if 29 sex appeal had more to do with the first time with a man san beer belly and facial hair, and observation by a pit bull.

@ anonymous;

you must be a very lonely man...

@ ti-cul

Lonely, maybe. Blind, no. But don't get all uppity at me because I can see past the hair dye and make up. I mean no disrespect to these women as I'm sure they are all great people and attractive in their own rights, but my comment was more along the lines of: if these women are the energetic, partying, good time face of the New Jersey Devils then the state of the game south of the border is perhaps more dire than anticipated. Another measuring stick. I'm just saying is all.

I did not want to be the one to say it, but is the Lego Jaro trade not look like highway robbery today.

soperman said...

To me, the best comment I have heard on that trade (and yes I forget who said it) is that Goat had to trade Jaro (who deserved a large raise) in order to sign Plexxxe. In that context, the trade looks pretty good and with Price playing the way he is, just icing on the cake.

Habsfan10 said...

@ soperman: I think that's the way everyone needs to look at the trade. It wasn't Jaro instead of Price. It was Price and Plexxe instead of Jaro.

If you really want to distort things, Gauthier got Plexxe, Price, Eller and Schultz for Jaro. Steal of the century!!!!

If Jersey Shore has taught me anything, it's that those girls are hot. For Jersey.

@Habsfan 10 did you notice Habsfan29 has the best legs of the bunch?

HF29, did you have seats in the lower bowl, maybe ten to twenty rows off the glass? I swear I saw your torso during a quick shot of Devils fans celebrating their only regulation time goal.

If I wasn't so lazy, I'd dial up TSN's highlights and double check.

I don't care about the Jaro/Price Pleks and what's his beak deal.

It's the Gomez/Koivu issue that's getting me riled up. Saku re-signs with the Ducks for two years at 2.5 per year. He has more points than Gomez and just think of all of that lovely cap space we'd still have. Just think of the decent wingers Saku would finally have. Why Bob, why?? Dammit, I want answers.

Steve said...

@ moey, perhaps Gainey thought Mex was a dog and Saku was a cat.

In simple terms thats what happened. It is all to complex for me to explain and I have on this astral plane not so much understanding. But there are reason within reasons and reason for decision that will stand as landmarks for enigma. Saku was a Gitmo transfer, not guilty but perceived to be a threat.

Steve said...

And for for throwing Saku under the bus as a winning terrorist, I am half Finnish and I have his rookie card in plexiglass. Now my blood cousin Rinne had better do better.

Something, within the soul of Saku did not fit, I love him dearly but in the real world, Bristol Palin has topped him.

So, uh, why do you have a KC Scouts jersey?

GG: Great pic. I thought of that lego head last night when he scored and the danish is just icing on the, ummm, danish.

Steve said...

@orangeman

You spent all that time in Korea and did not get a "jersey" for every occasional? I was only there a few times and only ate my last Coyote Peyote last month.

When I was at the Rock for a Habs - Devils game last year, pretty much everyone wore a jersey, too, but about half were Habs jerseys.

But some things were the same - big wide empty halls, lots of empty seats, and an incredibly boring game. Highlights were a Moen shorty and Carey Price doing a klutzy juggler impression with the puck, with the end result the puck going off TFS's hindquarters into the net. Half of the announced 12,000 attendence for that game apparently misplaced their tickets.

One thing 29 forgot to mention - the Pru has pretty good food, at prices that look semi-reasonable, at least compared with, say, Yankee Stadium.

Can't say about sex with the Ice Girls - their hair freaked me out way too much to consider getting that close. Definitely brought Jennifer Beals in Flashdance to mind.

Steve said...

@ le douze, Jennifer Beals has a hottness that can not be extinguished by people pretending to dance. She is hotter than Stamkos in the slot against volka tosskula. She is hotter than almost anything modern technology has created, except for sexy Friday.

29 is The Situation.

Kate said...

@Steve,

Cats rule, dogs drool. And as for the rest, if I could decipher what you're saying, I'm sure it would cheer me up.

Obviously Bob had his reasons, but if I could ask him one question, that would be it.

Le Douze said...

@Moey - one reason that I saw floated at the time was that BG needed to sign Gomer so that he could attract top talent like 'Lil Giant and Squid. I think the overall makeover was good, so if this is true maybe there was a point to it all. But yeah, who wouldn't trade Gomer @ $8 for Saku at $2.5, even factoring out the lust issue?

WV: antershi - that's one of them Ducks goalies, innit? antershi ninny-moany, or sumfink?

Kate said...

@le Douze,

Yes, I heard that too. Bob also said he wanted to get players who were younger and more durable. So big deal if Gomez is younger etc... at least when Saku was on the ice he gave 100 percent. *sigh*
