Speaking of medals, GOLD MOTHERFUCKERS!!!! I of course didn't watch because ice dancing is stupid, but major congrats to Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir and their gold. I may think ice dance is stupid, but being the youngest ice dance champs ever and being the first North American gold medalists in the event are serious fucking accomplishments.
In our non medal-winning performance of the day, big props to our men's cross-country team of Kershaw and Harvey (they have names!), who ended up 4th in the sprint relay. For the second time this Olympics, that's the best result ever for Canadian men cross-country skiers. Alex Harvey is just a kid and I predict now he will medal in 2014 (he'll choke).
OK, bring on the hockey. If we have to. 730 PM on CTV against the Germans. Not much to say. Luongo is getting the start and there's no more fucking around now, lose and we're fucked. And we better start playing some much better hockey or we'll be fucked anyway come tomorrow when we would be playing a real team in the Russians. In practice yesterday, Crosby had Iggy and Staal as his wingers. Let's hope Babcock keeps Iggy there, and keeps the aging D-men on the bench.
The best part about this game will be the viewing. Yours truly is gathering with HF4, Panger, LG77 and Mrs. Nussbaum for the first-ever drunken FHF Olympic hockey viewing summit. Film at 11.

Anger or Ecstasy? This is the most expressive hottie yet. She's got that panther on the edge of the stage thing down.
Before you guys go any further and start posting 50-year-old hotties, I'd like to ask you whether you'd agree that Canada-born olympian Melanie Robillard is also hot.
Is the hairspray/mullety/bad dye job thing really hot?
@anon: That is so last week.
@29: Sorry, I'm a curling nerd, so I know that China (who have beaten Canada) are the reigning World Champs. But Sweden DID finish 2nd...
I just know you would want total and complete accuracy on your blog.
thx L Dude, fixed. Sweden is reigning Olympic champ, i got confused
@LN11 - I also think she does something weird with her eyebrows, but in any event, hell yes.
@anon - She's hot partly because she's 40+, but mostly because she's so cool under pressure, unlike the legions of 20-somethings who have choked under that hometown pressure. Hotness isn't just looks.
Also, kudos to the women's hockey team, who looked and played like a real team, against another team that looked and played that way too. Finland channeled their inner NJ Devils and their goalie her inner (2002 vintage) MB30, but it wasn't enough against the superior skill and solid defensive play of the Canuck gals.
Very satisfying, and not just because of the score.
HabsFan29, I was watching the curling last night and wondering: real or fake? Thoughts on this?
By the way, I don't think that's true about Crosby. I heard he's going to be playing on the Maginot Line.
Re: my first comment about, I wasn't referring to curling generally (although wouldn't that be great if the whole thing was staged?), but our female skip, your hottie of the day.
As the British used to say:
"If the Germans beat us at our national game, we may take solace in the fact that, twice in the past century, we have beaten them at their's." (Swigs pint of Fuller's ESB).
Go xenophobia! Go Pants! GO YOU FUCKING CANADIANS GO!
Don't mention the war!
Due to my father's selfish decision to be born 60 years ago today I will be at dinner tonight and unable to see the game. I wish them the best though and although Germany is better than one might expect I still want a blowout. Women's ski cross goes this afternoon, though, and if you haven't seen it you should. It's pretty awesome. Plus we have 3/4 top ranked gals out there, so you're looking at 10th, 15th and a DNF! I kid, I kid. Go Canada!
WV: lossess. I do not like that at all.
I love the ski cross ! It's roller derby on skiis with the vertical drop thrown in. Totally awesome. The men were Canadian Suckitude, hopefully the women will rule.
@L12
Just throwing it out there, but Tessa Virtue would have to qualify as a hot 20-something that did not choke under said hometown pressure.
*agrees with Chenny13*
Tessa could step on me in her skates any day of the week.
I`m watching Canada vs. Great-Britain in curling.
I don`t think I will ever understand curling...
Virtue/Moir were amazing last night! Congrats to them!!
Go Canada Go!!!
P.S. I don`t think that picture does Cheryl justice.
True there are hotter pics of Cheryl.
I'm not in the know but I fantasize that they are real and spectacular.
The Russian couple is bitching about Virtue/Moir not deserving gold. Bitter much?
@ RiRi:
That's what the Russians do in skating. See Plushenko, E. ("I landed a quad ... wah wah wah quad should be automatic gold!") See Salt Lake after the Sale/Pelletier judging fiasco ("So what if we only won because the judge hit the wrong button. Even though we actually were second best, wah wah wah"). Wait for them to bitch tomorrow night after we fucking dump their asses out in the quarters (hopefully).
A fresh take on Team Canada's loss to Team USA and the road ahead: http://www.habsradio.com/2010/02/23/top-5-reasons-why-we-should-be-happy-team-canada-lost-to-team-usa/
Plushenko didn't win silver, he got platinum .
I don't know if I should laugh or be afraid of the guy. Maybe that's the medal you get from Stojko if he thinks you're not gay.
I think Lost will be more entertaining tonight than the Canada-Germany game. Probably more hitting too.
OK I'm wasting time at work here watching the Limpiks and the men's GS is on ... and they keep yipping about how us Kanuks are shooting for a "top 30" finish.? Ex-fucking-scuse me .. top 30 ?
We get winter here for 6 to 7 freakin months with ski hills everywhere. Why aren't we smoking those other countries. I think one of the things that really got me going was being beaten in the ski cross by a freakin Jamacan. A fucking Rasta mon .... as Benoit says aie-yai-yai ...
The Canadian who 'choked' for us in the men's ski cross was actually American. Just sayin'.
Haha, actually I watched the final with my sister and told her that he probably wouldn't choke because he was American. Then he fell on the last jump. I deduced that he spent too much time in Canada pre-race.
I seriously have never watched this much curling in my life and I'm afraid that I actually understand the rules to the game now. In fact, I think I want to try it. *shudder*
By the way, in random name origin news if you wonder where I got my pseudonym just look to the stands at the speed skating oval. Was fortunate enough to live in the Netherlands for a while and sports fans there are fantastic, so I thought I'd steal their nickname. If you can believe it, they're like that without the drugs, though beer might be a factor.
@ moeman
Hotter than her on her hands and knees with her mouth wide open and her heart on her sleeve?
Most awesome 43 year-old I have seen in a long while.
@orange
lotta curling joints in Korea? Maybe take up speed skating. Apparently there's one oval but you win a medal if you make it to the olympics.
@ Orangeman
And all this time I thought you were a fellow WASP ...
@ Orangeman:
I figured you'd be busy marching through a Catholic suburb all summer with that handle. Nice to see you're actually an Oranjeman.
“We’ve done a lot of really good things that have been very encouraging. In general, I think we’re very pleased with how the team’s playing.”
- Steve Yzerman
Is he just trying to keep a positive outlook?
See you in Sochi.
@Chenny13 and ezz way up there (I had to actually work today, sorry for the late reply) -
I didn't say that all the young'uns choked - I'm not forgetting Maëlle Ricker etc. And to each his own. I just like strong, confident babes who aren't afraid to yell "harder, harder!" in front of 6000 fans, while punishing a series of other babes.
I'd probably like Martin, too, 'cause his curling is even more outstanding than Cheryl's, but somehow his body type just doesn't turn my crank that way. Maybe I need some cultural re-education by the anonymous troll.
@Le12
Fun begins at 40.
oh look the women ski-cross team is choking. big surprise. PLEASE Ashleigh mcivor, at least get to the finals
whew
SUI v. BLR is a fun game to watch. Going to OT in one minute ...
WV = hotor
moe Canada could only hope to be as entertaining as this game's been
10 min 40n4 starts now. Very good hockey.
Some Swiss guy from Saskatchewan gets a penalty in OT.
Come on Sergei!
Shootout coming up. Methinks the Small Rack will pop one out for all the world to see.
GOLD! McIvor...McIvor...McIvor
That last part was a Simpons reference, but you really need to have the voice and intonation.
The point is:
GOLD, bitches!
Canada's Ashleigh McIvor won the gold medal in the ladies' ski cross final on Tuesday at Cypress Mountain.!! Congrats!
ick, Small Tits went flat.
Swiss go through.
Dan Boyle. I heard he used to be good.
He isn't anymore.
Hey mcSplooge, S T F U !
In your wildest dreams, did you ever think scoring would be an issue with this bunch?
WTF?!? McSplooge just informed me that the puck just went right through the net!
Is the fucking net made of spiderwebs?
Ha! Brodeur just gave McSplooge the side-eye! Like GTFO!
Be fun to see Marty tell mcSplooge to STFU!
McSplooge must get paid by the word.
My oh my that "A" on Pronger is rather big. Does it stand for "Big Asshole"?
WOO SKI CROSS GOLD!
Does McSplooge ever shut up?
Apparently I need to be told the height and weight of every player. McSplooge should tell us their blood type too. And how far each player lives from Saku Koivu.
Shoot the puck? Betcha Babcock was really saying "shut the fuck up" Pierre.
Uh... Well, I'm sure Nash feels happy about that one.
Moey and N31 are a riot tonight!
Luongo can't swim.
Danny Boyle
Scotty Niedermayer
Christopher Pronger.
Stop acting like you are friends with them.
Not good there.
Headless chickens. Luongo flopping like Kelly Hrudy.
Hello from the fhf summit. Dr. Gg11 is a riot, and panger is drunk
-hf29 from mrs nussbaum's account
I'll laugh when he's starts with the "Mikey Babcock, Kenny Hitchcock, Jackie Lemaire" (Lindy doesn't work)
Just got home from dinner. Brother in law shouts up to me that the score is 4-0. Germany. Now I have to pay for the dent in the fridge door.
I've decided to be festive with these hockey games. Tonight some beer, tomorrow vodka.
Go Canada! Go Canadian lady bobsledders!
Our women's bobsled team is actually ahead of the Germans, and with a track record?!(For now)
@29 via L11, "panger is drunk ", is that something new/different/better?
kypreos just called Darren Pang 'panger'.
Here's a pic of Darren Pang in a suit.
Why doesn't someone use McSplooge as a science experiment and blow his mouth off.
Anyone notice how Darren Pang giggles like a six year old girl?
In other news, McSplooge is now giving out grades like an elementary school teacher.
McSplooge gets an M for MMMMMMMMMMMONSTER.
That pre-recorded Ole song is worse than the fan-sung Ole song.
"Scotty Niedermayer"`s still got it
Niedermayer can breakaway apparently.
Neeedamayaaa....
Always reminds me of Animal House.
OH I SEE! He shaved his greybeard, thus he's now younger.
Ew @ the German coach`s tie.
Oh god. Tomorrow it'll be CROSBY CROSBY CROSBY OVECHKIN OVECHKIN OVECHKIN.
Hopefully, he`ll explode 5 minutes into the first and we`ll be able to watch in peace!
Greiss wants to go home...
He`s already started raving about Ovechkin. Ugh.
LOLuongo
I think that "WE WANT RUSSIA!" chant is more douchey than the idiots at the Bell Center doing the Goodbye song in a regular season game eh.
Playing in dirty areas? Ha! No problem. They survived sitting in McSplooge all night.
Action Pants on TSN vs the Czechs!
LN11 wrote: lotta curling joints in Korea? Maybe take up speed skating. Apparently there's one oval but you win a medal if you make it to the olympics.
Don't make fun of Korean curling. Like the Chinese, they just discovered it 2 years ago and are already on the world cup tour. Koreans actually dominate archery in the summer games and this isn't that far off. In Asian countries they don't play sports for fun, they play it to win. Kids will choose a sport and spend their lives developing it.
I'm a speed skating fan and I live in Korea and their results here (outside the 500m) is a complete shock. It's not even one or two of them, but all of them. I think I smell some East German shananigans going on.
Canadian bobsledders in 1st and 4th after the first 2 runs.
poor poor Sven.
Perhaps tomorrow's OHD?
[a href="http://www.theskichannel.com/image/news/20100121_ash.jpg"] Ashleigh McIvor [/a]
my bad..
try this..
Ashleigh McIvor
Ashleigh even has that golden glow about her in that picture.
@ LJ + C13
I third that motion. If she were a president, she'd be Baberaham Lincoln.
And Yzerman made a big mistake in taking Bergeron over Fisher - Fisher's ability to accidentally break the faces of guys hanging out at the backup goalie's seat is severely underrated.
@orange
not making fun. Apparently there's only one oval in Korea and look at their results. Very impressive. Is there a threat that they will be executed if they lose. Seems like they have fear in their eyes. I kid... because I'm somewhat drunkish. Never mind.
Joannie Rochette = a true champ. My lord, I think I'm a bit emotional after that skate.
LN11: It's not incredibly surprising considering their strength in short track. It's their strength at the longer distances that are out of the ordinary here. And consider the size of Korea, not so far to get to that oval whereas in Canada you need to get to Quebec or Alberta (now Vancouver) to get to one. There's probably one in Toronto, too. But you get the point.
Joannie Rochette is A sweetheart
Olympic drinking happenin' @ ln?
Seeing that Norwegian hit his head on the ice will give me nightmares. Holy crap, god speed man.
go latvia!!!!!!
Oh, holy fuck. That's some scary shit.
I hope he'll be ok. The rest of the Slovakian team looks just emotionally spent too.
Latvia and Czechs going to OT. Normally I would root for the Lats, but that just makes the US's road to the final even easier. Still rooting for the Lats, though.
@orangeman, Melly:
What's this? I'm watching Latvia own the Czechs.
we could sign the whole latvian team for the price of plek(best chech player)
Czech. Sorry I'm franch
For 5 or 6 millons/year, we could buy the whole country, could we?
ferget it.
ezzeloharr: Norwegian dude got elbowed by Slovak dude, helmet came flying off, skull came crashing down, blood came pouring out. Pretty terrifying to see. And hear it. Dude was moving, I really hope he's ok.
Just saw the OT goal by Czechs. Worst part is the Lat goalie will blame himself (channel toggling here), but he's got nothing to be ashamed about. Great game, they showed they belong.
@orangeman: Ouch. That sounds awful.
Hope he'll be okay.
Yeah, the Latvians deserved to win that game. The Czechs just stopped playing after the first. Any chance we can sign Masalskis? Just to add to the goalie controversy.
@ oranjeman,
It was a Slovakian player (Bartecko) who got drilled by a Norwegian.
@ ezzeloharr:
Elbow meets head. Helmet pops off. Head meets ice. Fucking scary amounts of blood.
Melly: Yes, sorry. Whiskey's a hell of a drug.
I wish we'd play the slackass Czecks instead of the Ruskies. Oveis vs Sid. Holy fuck!!!!!
Too tired to stay up watching Halak stone the Vikings. Go Pants!
Halak, looks cool...
Just cause it's late on the wc, McSlpooge is worn out. Not as abrasive as usual but still dumb as fuck. What a fuchwitt. Did anyone say STFU McIdiot?
Jesus christ, Tollefsen... I knew he was a bit of a goon but holy fuck keep your elbows to yourself. Though Bill Masterton didn't wear a helmet, that's pretty much how he died... God I hope that Bartecko guy is ok...
It's the Night of the Goalies Who Should Not Play the Puck (Luongo, Jaro, Grotes, Masalskis, etc).
Shit 31, you ever sleep or you're waiting till halak sckews up??
Pants win!
a'da'boy girl!
I have a sleeping problem regardless of who's in nets.
