On my way to Montreal in an hour for a few days, looking into moving back there in the summer. Nail biting bronze for Kristina followed by a heart pounding gold from Alex. I'm in heaven and will be surrounded by the angels at Schwartz's and Fairmount Bagel soon enough.

Even the Federal Tories are pissed off at the organizing committee for the lack of French in the opening ceremony. If it hadn't been for the GG and the Belgian IOC dude there wouldn't have been any.
That being said, has any Quebecker done more harm to a symbol of Canadian nationhood than Nikki Yanofsky? She didn't sing O Canada, she hit it from behind and smashed its face into the boards.

Nikki's version of the anthem was great. She's a jazz singer! I expected nothing less from her! I wish she would come back to the Bell Center and do the anthems like that 07-08 playoff series though.

And while we're on the subject of cultural intolerance, I'd like to clear the air about my feeling towards Youppi. I have nothing against him personally. Some of my best friends are fuzzy, orange-haired two sport wonders (GG can attest that this is true). I just don't think the Canadiens need a mascot. Perhaps it's time for Youppi to be sent up north to live on a farm.

In all fairness, Nikki is 16. Whoever did her arangement might have Americanized the anthem but at 16 I was sneaking into Casa Pedro's, not standing up in front of the entire world (wearing 6 inch heels) with the poise of a seasoned performer.
On another note, why do you think the Canadian speed skating uniforms have seat belts? To prove that as a country we're safety conscious? That and the intro and exit music to every commercial are making me nuts.

That's EXACTLY what I was thinking. Had Celine been up there with her Vegas version of the anthem I would have been sick. Well, actually, that's not true. I would've just turned it off. Nikki sang the anthem at the Panthers game in Florida on new year's eve (what self respecting Montreal Jew WASN'T there that night) and she was terrific. Much lower key.
I am sure glad they didn't let her anywhere near that stage. Probably one of the highlight of the ceremony.
Know what's awesome? Snowboard Cross. Now the Olympics need to bring in Crashed Ice and you'll see those ratings rise even more.
