Auldomatic for the People: Atlanta's Southern Rock Preview and Open Thread

Alex Auldomatic for the People gets the start tonight in Hotlanta, just 75 miles from the spiritual home of America's greatest ever garage band, R.E.M.  This thing pretty well writes itself:

What's the Frequency, Kenneth? Live from the aforementioned Hotlanta, 7:30 start.  On the RDS frequency, as always.

Talk About the Passion:  Is there a passionate Thrashers fan out there?  Is there a passionate Atlanta sports fan anywhere? Maybe at BirdWatchersAnonymous

Oddfellows Local 151: Goalies are an odd fraternity (Exhibit A:  Panger.)  Tonight, former collapsing Russky Ondrei Pavelec faces off against well-rested Alex Auldfellow Local 151 for the Habs.

Superman: Plexxe remains the do-everything, save-everybody man up front.  Atlanta traded their Superman (and apparently a box of kryptonite) to New Jersey last deadline, but has high hopes for youngsters Niclas Bergfors and Evander Kane.

Shiny Happy People:  Thrashers aren't really that happy being mired in mediocrity, but former Blackhawks Dustin Byfuglien and Andrew Ladd have lead them to three straight wins.  Habs continue to roll behind a rejuvenated Gio, Cammy, and the PK Subban show.

Radio Free Europe:  Lego scores!!!  Lars gets a reward for all his hard work.  AK46 woke up from his mini-slumber.  Thrashers Nik Antropov is a horrible minus 10.

Everybody Hurts:  Thrashers Freddy Modin is questionable tonight.  Markov obviously still out.

Finest Worksong: Hey, who doesn't love the job being done by Gill, Gorges, Hamr and Spacek?  And Alex Picard?  Good for you, buddy.

All the Way to Reno (You're Gonna be a Star): Zach Bogosian went third overall in 2008, right after Steven Stamkos and Drew Doughty and ahead of guys like Luke Schenn, Tyler Myers and Erik Karlsson.  The Thrashers desperately need Bogosian to become a superstar like Stamkos and Doughty.

So. Central Rain (I'm Sorry):  I'll apologize to Scott Gomez for all the bad things I've said recently when he strings some more good games together.  He has looked better lately, but that's not saying much.

Strange Currencies:  Big ticket capital of the South Atlanta struggles at the gate and can't keep it's own free agents.  Montreal's tax-to-death government didn't prevent Gainey from splashing the cash a couple years back.  Weird?  A little.

I'll Take the Rain: 40 cm of snow hitting my old hometown as we speak.  I'll take the rain in TO instead, thanks.

It's the End of the World as We Know It: Almost.

At My Most Beautiful:  GG11 covered yesterday's American Thanksgiving, but don't forget today's overdose of US College football rivalries:  West Virginia vs Pittsburgh, Colorado vs Nebraska, Alabama vs Auburn, and on Saturday, Michigan vs Ohio State, Florida vs Florida State, LSU vs Arkansas, Oklahoma vs Oklahoma State, and the greatest of them all, Notre Dame vs USC.  Oh, for the days Lou Holtz and the Irish would punch those LA bitches right in the fucking mouth.  In honour of this football awesomeness on a sexy Friday, let us give thanks:

The South has made me rise again

Many lap dances to regular FHF'er Tom who has pointed us to the fact you can now vote for who will be the next Atlanta Thrashers Blue Crew (i.e. their ice girls). God bless America. This story was so important we could not wait for Sexy Friday.

You get to pick five hopefuls for next year's squad. I voted for Amanda H., Candace (pictured above), Liz, Sarah F., and Terri with an "i". My criteria included skating ability, shovel skills, and enthusiasm. Your choice of criteria may vary.

The site says "Keep checking back as we add galleries leading up to the unveiling of the 2009-10 squad at the end of the week." Damn right we will. Fuck the Conference Finals, we've got a team of babes to pick.

Fuck we'll do anything for a winning streak - Thrashers Game Preview and Open Thread

This is what you get when you type "Atlanta Thrashers Girls." Fine with us.

In our neverending quest to find something that will bring on a winning streak, we're just recreating what HF10 so skillfully accomplished Saturday night. So I'm just gonna throw the info out there and hope that the equally sucky Thrashers suck more than us.

Your waiting in line details are that the game starts at 7:3o and is on RDS. But you knew that already I'm sure. Habs coming off the 3-2 win over the Sabres that we never reviewed, so it's like it never happened. Atlanta has lost 3 in a row. Do the Thrashers Have Large Talons? is a good quality Atlanta blog with a great name.

Hot Habs? Checking, checking... Carey Price has won his last two. Then there's uh, uh, uh... right. On the chilly side, how about Kovy and Lang. Kovy hasn't scored in 13 games. Yeesh. Little Tits may be in a category by himself, and may find himself in Hamilton pretty soon. Still on the limp ar DOOM, BGL, and Tangy, though those last 2 may play tonight. UPDATE RDS is reporting that Gui! and Little Tits will sit tonight. Habs I/O reports that BGL and Tangy and d'Agostini are all in. If we hear some lines we'll update more later. DOUBLE SECRET UPDATE - RDS now has the lines as:

Tangy - Pleks - Kosto
Big Tits - Koivu - D'Agostini
Higgy - Lang - Kovalev
Begin - Mad Max - BGL

Holy fuck, Carbo may have done something right for a change. I almost like those.

Kovalchuk and Kozlov lead your list of hot Thrashers. There's a suprise. Good ol' Ron Hainsey and some crappy goalies are keeping the cold side cold, and leading to the fact that the Thrash are second to last in the league in goals allowed. I'm sure the Habs will be the cure for that.

Since we have nothing more to say, we'd like to take a moment to remember Ted Rogers. Please complain about your cable bill in the comments.

Thrash Take Out the Trash - Sweet Georgia 3, Michael Bolton 2 (Le Shootout)

On a night during which the Habs deserved a better fate, the Thrasers steered the game into shaky ground for goaltender Cristobal Huet: the shootout.

We are starting to understand that the penalty shot is not Huet's forte. He has often be caught frozen on shots that whistle over his shoulder. Often times, he doesn't seem to have blinked on the play, let alone moved to attempt the save.

This was not the conclusion Alex Kovalev had sought after a wonderful performance on his part. Kovalev skated with imagination and played now you see it, now you don't puck handling with the opponent all night. His was a simply marvellous display of talent over the 3 periods and change of play.

Francis Bouillon was effective in thwarting any Kovalchuk threat. The amazing Russian wasn't given the room to spin his wheels. He manged a few dangerous shots but could not unleash his full fury with any consistency. Now there's a nice feat: the team stared both Ovechkin and Kovalchuk down, giving them only inches to strut their stuff.

It was 65 minutes of good hockey. Not much to complain about for the coaches. In the old days, it would have been a hard fought tie and the visitors would have left satiated. It was a game to build on, and provides the team with the enthusiasm brought upon by the prospect of finishing the first half of this six-game road trip with 5 points out of a possible six.

Unless the Stars in Dallas fail to align themselves accordingly.

Um.., Excuse Me, Sorry, WHAT THE HELL IS A THRASHER? Game Night Open Thread

Waiting in line details - 7 PM start at Phillips Arena (not Phillip's Arena, I don't know of a Phillp who owns the place). This is the second of a six-game road trip and the Road Worriers will be at it again looking for a second straight win away from home. Atlanta is playing just under .50o hockey whether it be at home or on the road, which is a nice rendition of overall mediocrity. Giid for them.

Pay your cover charge to - BlueLand Blog. It's a blog. It's blue. Looks legit.

Hot sexy Habs to watch - Guillaume Latendresse comes of a benching and produces a 2-goal effort against the Caps. Cristobal Huet comes off an injury/benching and turns in a fine performance. Kovalev continues to put points on the board with another 2 assists in Washington. The Tits brothers are proving to be a fine pair.

Hot sexy Thrashers to watch - Ilya Kovalchuk is giving Vinny the Cavalier a run for his money for the most dazzling player of the 2007-2008 season. He now has 28 goals and 18 assists for 46 points in 34 games. His jets are simply electrifying, with what must be the deadliest wrist shot in the game to boot. Kari Lehtonen is starting to play like another Kari (pronounced Carey) we know, with two straight wins. Newcomer, Saku penpal Mark Recchi, has 5 points in 5 games since arriving in Georgia.

Skanky Habs to watch - Chris Higgins has lost a step. Only Koivu seems to have been sparked by Little Tits' arrival on the first line. The Finding Ryder tragedy lives to see another day.

Skanky Thrashers to watch - Look, I would be happy with a 31-point player in Montreal at this time of the season, but those totals seem a bit off for Marian Hossa who has accustomed us to more. Go make love to a very sweaty animal, Slava Kozlov, with your dickball numbers, and thanks so very much for nuking my pool. Asshole.

Post-game adult entertainment establishment - Oh my, look at what's happening over at The Cheetah. Looks like a fancy restaurant with strippers. Excuse me, waiter, my blowjob's a bit cold, would you warm it up for me? Must have fast service at the Cheetah...Rrrar!!!!

Alright let's hear your dirt dirty thoughts in the comments. And please answer the question in the title while you're at it!
