"Montreal is operating without a net" - Sports Illustrated

Yeah, yeah, we know we said we were done with these, but damn, an excuse to post Marisa Miller! HabsFan4 is supposed to be along today with his review of the pre-season, but we have heard he is stuck in New York City. We're not sure why, he just mentioned something about a shiv and Dubi from Blueshirt Bulletin. But you didn't hear that from us. Anyway, over the weekend, Sports Illustrated dove in with their Northeast preview, so let's review the preview.

What jumped out at us was their analysis of the goalies. Price "will be an elite goalie", but not necessairly this year. Alan Muir just dismisses Halak and Denis, and claims Price's "repeated meltdowns" cost us the Flyers series. He then concludes the title of this post. Oh, you're so clever Alan. A 25th Cup is "unlikely." Finally, some negativity we can get behind!

He does have many positive things to say about Little Tits, Bob, Max Pack, and others. But his numerous references to Tanguay-Lang-Little Tits as the "second line", wrong on so many levels, leaves us to wonder how much we should believe anything SI says anymore. Well, except for their choices of Swimsuit Issue cover models.

Even though we've (finally!) started our own preview, we thought we should do one last review the previews. Here's the "biggie", TSN.

As part of their "30 Teams in 30 Days " series, TSN finally got around to Nos Glorieux yesterday. We would say it's actually quite accurate. It does a good job pointing out the negatives, like how will the loss of Streit may hurt the PP, will Kovy drop off (they say he won't), and all the impending UFA's and RFA's. There's also plenty of praise, for the offense, for the goalies, for the moves, for Gainey's stockpiling of young talent. We want to be critical, but fuck, we gotta admit on occasion TSN knows its hockey. Until they delude themselves that the Leafs are good.

Speaking of the Leaves, we are embarassed to say we've been blogging for the enemy, if you're looking for some, you know, actual original material from us. We feel dirty.

So in the absence of our own preview in the near future (it's coming, we swear, as soon as we get a new supply of meth), we'll be taking a critical look this week at what the rest of the interwebs and MSM are saying about Nos Glorieux. Today, internet sports site The Sports Network, which has somehow managed to avoid being sued by TSN.

The Habs preview as written by some dude, is positively glowing. The forwards are great, the D is great, the goaltending is great. The whole thing makes me want to puke ("puke", that's a funny word. Mind if I use that?). It makes us really think that some dude is off his rocker when he writes "keep an eye out for a breakout season from Guillaume Latendresse." Sure, we'll keep an eye out, and we'll go blind waiting.

Pretty soon we'll find a Habs preview that says the Habs totally overachieved last year and are headed for a fall. That'll be some pessimism we can get into.

So BR, in their Northeast division preview, says that the Habs will win the division with 101 points. The offense will be better with Tanguay (the post was written pre-Lang) and the D is solid and underrated. The golatending is suspect if Price doesn't stay healthy. It all seems like a pretty reasonable, if pedantic and lame, preview.

Oh, and for FHF commentor Terry O'Reilly, BR has the B's fourth and a "surprising disappointment." It's a fact.

Today, we take a look at what TSN said about the Habs in their "6 cities in 6 days" series.

You can find the video of it here. We would love to embed it for you but TSN thinks it's 2003 and needs to protect its content. In the video, Darren Dregher basically says the city is buzzing "in anticpiation of a championship" and that the Habs have no weaknesses. He obviously hasn't heard that Breezer resigned. With the signing of Lang, Habs have depth at center. Whatever you say. He also lies when he says Habs have 6 solid D. I find that conclusion questionable. We have 3 quality D and 3 serviceable ones at best. That's our glaring hole.
