Max celebrates: We have a team! Who needs a goalie?

With the signing of Mad Max Laps Lappy Lapierre to a one-year, $900,000 contract, the Habs now have 12 forwards and seven defensemen under contract for the upcoming season. Backstopped by legendary goalie Alex Auld, the Habs are sure to win... some games.

First off, congrats to the Habs for not giving Max a contract of any length whatsoever, at a price I can live with. I think we can all look back on the regular season last year when he sucked. No doubt the Bertrand Raymonds of this province will take this as one more sign the Habs hate francophone players, but this is smart. When he has another sucky regular season, we won't be stuck with him.

Now what's left? Hmmm, ahh, let me think. Nobody really comes to mind. Oh right, a certain Franchise SaviourTM this franchise has pinned its saving hopes on. Cap Geek has the Habs with about 4.7 mil left, so that is more than enough for Carey, and maybe even someone else! Dare to dream, kids! Suggestions?

I guess there's no hoping for a decent winger to play with Cammy and TurtlePleks, eh? Anyone else kinda have a hankering for Frolov?

@ezzeloharr:

I'll pass on the Russkie, thanks.

However, Chicago is in deep doodoo re: the salary cap, soooooo...quick PG get on the horn to Stan Bowman before Brian Burke gets back from his vacation/fishing trip!!!
I'd love to pluck Patrick Sharp off that Black Hawk carcass. They can ship out AK46 for a bag of pucks and rolls of tape for all I care. Just get the cap space back!

I would love to snag Patrick Sharp, but I don't know that they'll trade him. Once Chi Town buries Cristobal in the woods somewhere and wipe his salary off the books, they'll have 5+ million left and will probably fill the roster out with young 'uns. Still though, there's no shame in trying to pry him out of there?

@the Maritimer

I guess the last thing we need is another enigmatic russian, eh? Sigh...

Sure, Max sucked in the regular season (as if we were showering praise on the team before the playoffs started) but I thought he played really well in the playoffs. Good signing.

@HF29,

I totally agree with your hiatus. At least last year there were so many changes on the team that it kept bloggers busy for a while. This year, well *double yawn* there's squat. And who feels like grasping at straws and/or spekelating until Oct.

thanks Moey for your support! we bloggers gotta stick together. at least i have 3 co-bloggers to take up the slack.

@kc - agree with you about Max in the playoffs. that's why i specified regular season. if he can bring what he brought in the playoffs for 82 games (hell, i'll take 50) it will be a steal

@moeman,

Hotel Vogue is very nice. We had our company Christmas party there one year and stayed overnight.

Pantless pool party?

@Moe
It's supposed to be beautiful. Friends stayed there last year and liked it. Supposedly it's very hip. You're hip so it's all good.

Damn. HIO is having a mini summit at Le Manoir this Thursday evening. It's about 10 mins from where I live. A chance to sit down with Boone, Hickey, Stubbs and Mio to talk hockey....awesome.

On the flip side, having to spend an evening with some of those oh so brilliant commentors....no chance.

*sigh*

There are those of us who do think, cross out think, "feel" that Max is our only hope. The reason we feel that way is the extra effort he showed during the series at key times. Something that has been missing from the Europeans who seem to always be pining for the World Championships, as if they were more important than the Cup. A gamble on Simon Gagné just for the hell of it?
Pourquoi pas? I know AK46 for Simon Gagne. That actually might not be a bad trade for both parties.

@b

You are giving up some youth and "potential" for experience and possibly damaged goods...but I would do it. The only thing is Gagne has a no-trade and I'd be willing to bet that Montreal is on the "do not trade to" section.

They had to know this would happen. Chai Montreal, the cable access show, is up in arms about the firing of strength and conditioning coach Lorne Goldberg after just one season with the Habs.

Chaim: They fired Goldberg? Are they crazy? It's a shanda! For children to fire their own father!! Oy, I can't believe it. He has the most gorgeous things there. My Shaidl goes in there and Goldberg always gave her a good deal on diamonds and those pink stones she likes so much. And now he's out?? And he gave to CJA. You should only know. I went in there to ask for a donation for the yeshiva. They told me to go ask Goldberg. A wonderful man.

Menachem: Chaim, it says here LORNE Goldberg, not LOU Goldberg. Some hockey person.

Chaim: Who?

Menachem: Lorne Goldberg. Some kind of sports guy who helps with the players injuries.

Chaim: a doctor?

Menachem: It doesn't say...
