- Turns out the Habs were sold for $633 million. And somehow all parties have avoided paying any taxes on the deal. Fucking lawyers;
- Really enjoyed La Presse's François Gagnon taking on the Koivu haters with the headline: "Who you gonna blame now?"
- Pleks denies the rumours he wants to go to Russia;
- Boy there was a lot of crying at the Sakic retirement announcement. We thought Pierre Lacroix was particularly embarrassing;
- The Lightning ink 2nd overall pick Victor Hedman to a 3-year deal.

Nice piece by Francois Gagnon... illustrates the Koivu-Conundrum even within a francophone context, which goes to show its not necessarily a language issue--its a people issue.
So sad that so many people needed to externalize their disappointment and objectify it all onto one man.
That being said, its hard to feel sexy on a Friday like this one... Koivu, gone; Sakic, done.
We're gonna need one heck of a pictorial to brighten this day (cue inspirational 80's film soundtrack with accompanying dance montage).
Gagnon's article is the most complimentary in the Francophone press, and it still boils down to "He had his flaws but he had his good points too."
Sounds like my eulogy.
Francophobia seems to be in order on this blog. Well, fuck you, anyway.
Btw, what the fuck does language has to do with Koivu ? I suppose the 21,273 fans that gave a 5-10 standing O to Koivu when he played against Ottawa on that April day in 2202, were all Anglophones.
All those who pontificates about how Francophones hates Koivu are a bunch of closed minded idiots.
Was Koivu a good player ? Sure he was. Can he still play ? Maybe on a third or fourth line, as long as it's not more than 10-12 minutes a game. Was he a good captain ? No but he never had much to captain, in the first place.
Will I shed any tears about his departure. Well the last time tears came to me about any millionnaire's woes.
Get it over with, for Chrissakes....
microfox - "Francophobia"?
Tu me niaises...
Word verification (too perfect): brick. As in: "Trying to get people to understand nuanced arguments is often like shouting at a brick."
I so don't get all this stuff about language being tied into politics so much. It's just silly.
Then again, some of my fellow citizens voted for a president who really can't speck English in an English-speaking country, so clearly language has nothing to do with electability south of your border. :(
@ Baroque:
It doesn't have much to do with electibility to the East or West of Quebec's borders, either. Ontario has no problem with electing bumbling idiots, be they bilingual or not.
I have microfoxphobia but not meganfoxphobia .
find me one red-blooded hetero male who has meganfoxphobia after seeing that pic. can't be done.
i'm not being defensive about your new avatar moeman. you're the one who's being defensive.
Eklund's 'e' classification:
e1: bullshit I made up.
e2: bullshit someone else made up.
e3: bullshit someone else made up and someone else repeated.
e4: bullshit someone else made up, someone else repeated, and still someone else repeated.
e5: something I read on tsn.ca
We've just signed Paul Mara
Sounds like a decent backup, but I guess it means the Dandy man is gone.
@Boob - never really knew him, but this comment on the TSN page i like:
"As a Rangers fan, I'll vouch for Mara as a solid signing. The guy plays a solid stay at home style, decent shot, and most importantly, he would take a bullet for any of his teammates. Not to mention the best beard in the sport."
Mara beat up Darcy Tucker, therefore I love him.
