Happy Fourth of July American Comrades

Once again on this July 4th we are reminded that there are Habs fans everywhere. From New York to Tennessee to Cali, there are FHF readers. So to you, we wish you a damn fine Independence Day with much fireworks and beer. We'll even go so far as to chant "U-S-A! U-S-A!" But only because you produce so many fine babes, as seen in the American Flag bikini collection over at KSK. And you produce thrilling political drama like Sarah Palin resigning yesterday. My god that was fantastic - the rambling, the grammar, the honking geese in the background. Never change America.

Interesting piece over at La Presse this morning. Mathias Brunet thinks that all the Habs UFA's were overvalued, considering only one of the ten has signed somewhere, and Bob was right not to offer contracts. A La Presse reporter who says Bob knows what he's doing! It's bizarro world. Around the league, Rick Nash re-upped in Columbus for 8 years, and Ryan Smyth was traded to the Kings.

Will there be moves over the U.S. holiday weekend? Who knows. Consider this your weekend open thread of love. We'll check in with a new post when one of those petitions works.

Church, tubing and 'bag-skating'. Bonus, the kid has the CH in his name, just like CHipCHura and with a name like CiCHi, who needs a nickname?

Columbus breaks the bank for Nash.

But Columbus has been losing money for 7 straight seasons (about $10m per year).

Great business model you've got there.

Hey I just noticed on TSN that Anna Kournikova is out for the season with a wrist injury.

Who the fuck knew she still played tennis?

Anyway, it's a reason to post a pic of her if you need ideas...

kevincrumbs said...

Didn't Kournikova recently get in a fight with another woman at a bar?

Bob may work in mysterious ways but at the end of the day, he's just trying to entertain us plebs. All hail Bob! However, I do find it odd that neither Kovy or Tangy have signed. Koivu supposedly has actual hockey teams bidding for him but the news for the other two guys is quiet-town.

Kovy sucks! Komi sucks! Oleg Petrov sucks! We all suck!

If Beauchemin is really waiting for a $4M offer, then Bob is a fool for giving $2M to HMCS Hal Gill.

Koivu will be back...

@Ilwillia: Aw crap. If Eklund says it's true, it probably means Saku will sign with the Leafs and then get traded to the Bruins at the trade deadline.

LA overpaid - Doughty-Quincey would've been a helluva blue line, and it's not like there weren't decent free-agent wingers available.

Any ideas what Montreal is going to do with Dandenault?

South Shore Habs Fan said...

@ Baroque
Hopefully sign him for 1 mil per, 2-3 years, with a C on his chest. I'd rather see it on him than anyone else on the current roster, barring Markov who wouldn't want it.

Would Dandy even consider signing back with the Habs? The way he was treated over the last 2 years, is an absolute shame. In his shoes, I'd tell BG to go fuck himself.
This guy handled himself with unbelievable class.

South Shore Habs Fan said...

@ James
He refused an offer from the Broons because he said he was hoping for a call from Bob. Besides, Carbo was the one who left him in the pressbox in favour of the Breezer.

Baroque said...

What if the Wings gave him a call? They are short on right-handed shots and it would be nice to have an inexpensive serviceable player.

(Just purely groundless speculation, but I for one miss him.)

I'm still depressed that Saku (likely) won't retire with the CH on his chest. The way that he has been treated really pisses me off. After his years of unflinching loyalty, to get summarily flushed like this is, well, bullshit.

I know it's unpopular around these parts, but Kovy's imminent departure also has me sad/mad. Trust me, guys, he did more for the young players on this team than you know. Not nearly as selfish as he was made out to be.

Sniffle.

Poor Saku.

He may wind up in Phoenix, of all places. Apparently he is worried that it might be a little uncomfortable playing in Minnesota with his younger brother.

South Shore Habs Fan said...

Saku in Phoenix?! Ugh. Trade them Pleks and sign Saku. What happened to all the Saku-to-Anaheim speculation? I'd love to see Koivu play with Selanne one more time (though I'd like it even more if it were for the Habs).

Yeah, I figure if Dandy doesn't sign here, he's going out West. Anaheim would be my bet, since Detroit is already stacked on D and close to the cap, and Anaheim has Brett Favre and no one else on the blue line. Dandy would also look good in Washington... but that thought scares me a little.

I'll miss Saku and Kovy. Neither of them was meant to be a top-line player, but I was hoping we'd keep them for some leadership, to ensure a smooth transition, and to provide a second line that can score consistently. I would've loved to see Saku spend a season with AK46 on his wing (holy crap, a finisher for Koivu?), and for Pacioretty to learn some moves from his childhood idol.

More likely Anaheim than Phoenix, yes - but just the thought of someone who played so long and so well in Montreal playing with the Coyotes is so, so wrong.

Detroit does have a little cash under the cap, not a lot - mostly I have to admit it's for sentimental reasons. I just miss him and was happy that when he was let loose after the lockout he wound up in Montreal. He'd be great insurance in case of injuries and if one of Detroit's defensemen can't come back after a concussion in February, and he was always a great guy to switch between defense and forward if someone got hurt in the middle of a game. Detroit actually drafted him as a forward, but at the time the team was forward-rich so switching to defense let him make it a bit quicker than he would have otherwise.

I just always liked Dandenault.

Baroque said...

And I like Brett Favre for Niedermayer - I've been calling him Captain Lazyass Undecided, but Farve is a good nickname as well.

lawyergirl77 said...

Baroque - I always liked El Dandy too.
Class from start to finish.

And again, because it bears repeating, HE FINISHED HIS FUCKING SHIFT WITH A FUCKING FRACTURED ARM.
In THREE places.

Boob Gainey said...

I love Koivu and I love Kovy.

But let's remember last season's train wreck, and let's stop getting sentimental.

We need to move on.

Now Dandy is a different matter. Useful player as long s he doesn't mind watching a lot of games from the press box.

kevincrumbs said...

Kovy to me is like a girl you sleep with who breaks your long dry spell. You're thankful, of course, but it gets to a point where you're a little too thankful, where you think she's better looking, more interesting and smarter than she actually is. But because she was the first to pay attention to you in a long time and say some nice things to you, along with, you know, doing it with you, you end up overrate her.

At the end, neither of you are right for each other and need to move on but it just takes you forever to do so.
