Koivu a Duck

Now that just doesn't seem right.

One year, 3.25 M.

Plays with close friend Teemu. Buys house in Orange County. Stars in The O.C reunion episode.

Ed's note (well, HF29 note) - please scroll down to the next excellent post from HF10 for a little more analysis on what Koivu meant to us all.

No, it's not right. Not right at all.

I made a donation in honour of, and gratitude to, my boy Saku, the son I never, had.

I've always trusted in Bob, but I just don't understand this decision.

Saku should have been a Hab for life, and I'm sure he wanted to be.

Bonne Chance, Saku.

Boob Gainey said...

The head says he was having trouble finishing his shifts, and he didn't exactly help with the train wreck that was last season.

The heart says we should have offered what the Ducks offered but for two years. I'll miss him. Hope the Ducks make it to the Stanley Cup finals.

Salut Saku et merci BEAUCOUP!!

Some good news about a player not making it back to Montreal.

I think Boob hit the nail on the head.

Now, how many bets he puts up 70-80 points and Teemu scores like 40 goals next year?

Boob Gainey said...

Saku has never gotten 80 points in a season.

Qless said...

Saku's hit the big time. He is listed as a 'trendy topic' on Twitter. Kinda funny as most people are saying "What the Fuck is a Saku Koivu...?"

South Shore Habs Fan said...

@ Boob
He's also never played with Teemu Selanne for a season (the guy is 39 and scored 27 goals last season, 12 goals in 26 games the season before that, and is just a few years removed from consecutive 40 goal seasons. All that without a proper centre to feed him. If they can add a decent LW the Ducks' offense will be dynamite.

Speaking of decent left wingers... I think Anaheim has enough cash to sign Tanguay?

Perry-Getzlaf-Ryan
Tanguay-Koivu-Selanne

God help the Western Conference goalies.

SSHF - I'm both fearful and drooling over those lines... wow. Just. Wow.

I actually do plan to buy a Koivu Ducks jersey. Go figure.

Can he wear #11 there?

Martin Brodeur says we Habs fans will/could love the 2Gs, if;

Babelfish it for a hilarious Headline;

Also, I love Massive Attack! Which BTW could become a great new line name.

Off-topic but fun;

Also, did Obama just give Balsillie a challenge to set up a team in the Kona region? If so, I'll be stick boy and surf all fucking day!

And, whilst here, what is cooler, Obama cheering OV or a hapless hack like harper being a fucking leaf fan?

Collecting comic books, streaking at a tennis match, playing air guitar at a Metallica concert, living with your parents after your 21st birthday, getting your fingers caught in a snowblower, reciting lines from Monty Python, Star Trek, and the Simpsons in social settings, are all cooler than Stephen Harper.

moeman said...

Very true Boob. Even hugging your kids in public (no, not burke hugging Dou$harek) is a challenge for some leaf fans.

WV = physi, as in this Mousseux I'm having sure is physi.

LG77: If Ducks jerseys weren't so ugly and boring, I'd buy a Koivu jersey, too.

lawyergirl77 said...

Okay, I'm officially a gigantic sap.

I'm listening to the audio of Saku's conference call, and I'm trying to hold back the tears... and it ain't working.

God, I'm going to miss him.

moeman said...

lg77, you are a stronger person than I, as I can't bear to listen.

At least Saku isn't a leaf, cuz ...

i love babelfish

They knew much success together and they again will form an excellent duet, it affirmed. The partisans will like Gomez because he plays in a spectacular way. He likes to transport the disc and to bring it in unfavourable zone.

moeman said...

Not one to judge one's religiosity or lack there of but this is classic hypocritic harper, not suprisingly, a leaf fan.

He should stick to fake hugging his kids.

totally fucked-up management..... from the moronic corey to the supposedly enlightened gainey/boivin team.... not a fucking clue. here is my list of teams likely to finish ahead of the CH next year......... washington, pittsburgh, boston, philly, tampa bay, ottawa, florida, atlanta, new jersey, rangers, carolina, leafs(maybe), islanders(maybe). that leaves mtl., buffalo fighting it out for the first lottery pick/

Sonia said...

@bond - The Habs will win the first lottery pick and end up trading it away in a package for Lecavalier, who will end up playing no more than 30 games/year for the next 11 years because of a wonky shoulder and wrist (besides crippling the Habs cap-wise).

And they will blame Koivu.

kevincrumbs said...

Habs to finish 5th or 6th in the conference, win in the first round and lose in the second round in spectacular fashion, meaning either getting swept or losing in 4OTs in Game 7.

I have no basis for this.

Sonia said...

@LG77 - If you really want to bawl your eyes out, check this out.

I'm 25 years old, and after the Roy years in my early fandom Saku IS the Habs for me. I will miss him soooooo much.

mcguffers said...

I decided to stop lurking and finally leave a comment. You guys are all freaking hilarious. I'm a Sabres fan, but I've kind of adopted the Habs as a second team, because apparently I'm attracted to abusive relationships.

I understand your hate towards Komisarek right now. I've only just recently been able to wear my Drury t-shirt again. I just think maybe Komi was tired of dealing with the behind the scenes turmoil. And the fact that he went to Toronto just means he really loves hockey crazed cities. I'll shut up now.

As far as nicknames go, I'm not happy about seeing Kostopoulous go, but Gionta's from Greece, NY so you could alter it to Greece Lightening instead of Greek.

Oh, and my word verification is stspock. Spacek isn't really a saint, but treat him well please!

I'm so very sorry.

Very few teams are lucky enough to be more than a collection of employees wearing the same uniforms and actually grow a soul, and those that do shouldn't cast them aside so easily. Koivu was Montreal's soul.

My most sincere condolences. :(

HabScot said...

@LG77, yes he can have #11. The Ducks only have one retired number, Gretsky.

kevincrumbs said...

@Sonia: Thanks for the link. I made a contribution too.

Thanks again, Saku. Man, I'm really, really sad about this.

At the very least, this move has given us a singularly fantastic nickname:

Captain K becomes the following Duck:

Quacku Koivu
