The Morning Skate for Monday, July 6th

Bullet points for what you missed while dreaming of winning your 15th major...
  • Pleks is going to arbitration. "Mr Arbitrator, I would like to present evidence that Mr. Plekanec is, in fact, a zombie";
  • Some people who wasted $300 on an authentic Reebok Kovalev jerseys protested for his return yesterday outside the Bell Centre;
  • There was no such protest for Saku.
Can Kovy just sign somewhere else already so we can end this foolishness? And someone please sign Koivu, it's not fair to a guy that's all class.

This is getting embarrassing.

Those fucking nim rods protesting the non signing of Kovy just go to show how fucking stupid the fans can be and just how far up their ass their heads really are. A non 30 goal scorer (once since he has been with the habs he has scored more then 30) a not even 70 point a year player (once also), who shows up when he feels like it, is more of a fucking diva then Madonna, goes 2749 games (exaggeration) without a goal and yeah everyone in the MTL organization should just do ANYTHING to sign him back. Can i get a collective FUCK OFF to those fucking idiot fans. Saku has had only one 75 point season but what distinguishes him from the "Lazy Ass Russian" is the way he has conducted himself both on and off the ice. As already said here its getting embarrassing.

Eh.. I see nothing wrong with it. He's a fan favourite and probably would be on the team if he had not stopped to think about it. Maybe they should have started trashing the place instead. Embarrasing, yes a bit. But a lot less embarrasing than the way fans acted during the playoffs. THAT was fucking embarrasing.

I think the Habs should go after Sundin. What do you think?

And fuck Plekanec. Bastard ruined my fantasy team last season. He's going to get his ass rocked in arbitration.

Here's hoping the judge rules in favour of ZTP (ZombieTurtlePleks)
to the order of about $3 million, so Gainey can say "Uhh, no thanks."

Here's a question: In theory if this happens (not that I think it will), and assuming BG is standing by his word and not re-signing Koivu or Lang, would you sign Sundin to a one year deal for 4 million? He did have 8 points in 8 playoff games.

Before anyone feels sorry for Koivu, let's not forget he earned $5M per year for working 3 hours a day, 7 months of the year.

And as far as leadership goes, I refer you to last season.

Not that I don't like the guy, but let's just have a bit of perspective.

@eyebleaf

Serious question: why are the Toronto media jizzing themselves over the signing of Colton Orr?

moeman said...

Embarrassing is signing and overpaying Doucharek and making him the cornerstone of a failed and futile franchise.

L Dude said...

I saw Komisarek referred to as K8 on another blog. As in Kate. Which is perfect every time he gets bitch-slapped by Lucic.

He was quoted as joining the Leafs because "Burke is building a tough team.." As in "Maybe I won't have to fight because I fight like Plekanec plays - like a little girl!" See ya later Kate.

Boob Gainey said...

"Burke is building a tough team.."

but also:

"Burke selects the US Olympic Team"

@ Boob:

Perspective is two knee injuries that wrecked his early seasons. Perspective is him coming back from FUCKING CANCER and being our best player again. Perspective is almost losing an eye to a highstick and putting up with jackass reporters sneaking into his hospital room to take pictures. Perspective is his calm demeanour and quiet dignity as he gets raked over the coals by Pequister fuckheads who rag on him because he doesn't speak like a pur laine, even though his charity work in the city is legendary, his wife is Francophone, and he lead the charge of an undermanned, outcoached, piss-poor excuse for a franchise for 10 years without complaining about his shitty support from the front office, the media, and his often garbage linemates.

And while I wouldn't put "NHL player" on the world's most difficult jobs list, I'm guessing a pro like Koivu puts in a lot more than 3 hours of work a day for only seven months.

Frankly, Koivu has been the best thing about this rudderless frachise for a decade, and he deserves much better treatment.

Boob Gainey said...

@HF10

Fair enough.

I'm not criticizing him, I'm criticizing the over-reaction to his departure. He's a good guy and a pretty good hockey player.

By the way his wife is Finnish.

Habsfan10 said...

@ Boob:

Ah, my mistake. Apparently she speaks excellent French. It also appears some mainstream media reported she was Francophone. And I don't think the response to Koivu leaving is an overreaction at all. It's an emotional response to a guy who, despite his lack of superstar accomplishments, meant an awful lot to a whole bunch of people.

who says k or k even want to come back here??

might have been good management to have found them some better talent to play with them.

fucking idiots who question koivu's leadership...... how come he has captained the finnish national team for years??

i'd take either on my team in a minute.

love to see koivu in minny and kovalev in pitt.

microfox said...

First, I guess it's mandatory to say profanities on this board. OK then....

What the fuck is it with all these people that are making a nervous breakdown about Koivu ? Koivu was a very good second line center for his first 7-8 years in the league who was unfortunately given the jobs of first line center AND captain.

He was neither apt at either job. He tried to play like a 6'3" guy in a 5'10" body, he managed to collect injuries (and some unfortunate illnesses, as well). This makes him a 35 years old in a 40 years old body. He can hardly play more than 14-15 minutes a game, anymore. He's out of breath after 25 seconds on the ice and starts looking at the bench for replacement. And he wants a 4 years deal paid like a # 1 center.

He's also moody and has never been a leader off ice. Where are the stories of this captain ever helping a rookie adapt in his new environnement ? Stevie Y, he never was. His attitude when paired with players he didn't like is anything but commendable. Besides, Savage, Recchi, Rivet and Souray, he never seemed to enjoy playing with anybody else.

Thank you Saku. You have been good to us and we have been good to you. (all those millions in your bank account). It's just that's was time we parted company.

Btw, am I the only one to think that he was a much better player for team Finland than he ever was with the Canadiens ?

Yes.

Boob Gainey said...

According to rds, Gainey says Kovy isn't coming back.

A quick look at the cap space should have made that clear anyhow.

A rare good column by Jack Todd.

Kate said...

Ahem, Montrealiste1,

Can you please post that in English as well, this is a bilingual country.

bond said...

btw microfox........ did it ever occur that team finland was and is, a helluva lot better and tougher than team montreal??

Young HF29 said...

tout le monde a droit de commenter dans la langue de son choix

and I can assure everyone that HF10 meant nothing by that comment. 10 is loved by anglos and francos alike. his francophone ex-girlfriend would certainly say he understood francophones. well, until they broke up of course

Rob said...

I wasn't fucking offended nor did i think anything 10 said needed any kind of justification. I don't think anyone should take anyone out of fucking context. 10 Said what he wanted to say (he was right on the mark) and our french friend Montraliste said what he had to say...that's always the problem in this part of the country everyone gets pissed at the wrong shit...the problem is the team and the way it has been owned, managed, coached and played...it is the retard media who have so badly fucked up everyone's impression of Montreal (except of course the rabid fans) that no one with any significant talent wants any piece of this organization...oh and by the way I am a Finn i speak 5 languages and no matter in which language you chose Koivu was a class act...POINT FINALE!

@ Montrealiste:

I would never associate the amazing Francophones and Quebecois I have met, dated, drank with, and generally loved having in my life with any of the bigots to whom I was referring. Frankly, as a guy whose French speaking abilities were almost non-existant when I arrived in Montreal, I find it disappointing that Koivu couldn't or wouldn't make more of an effort to speak French in public, especially when my experience was that there were any number of friendly folk willing to suffer my mangled pronounciations and bizarre accent as I tried to learn. I think it would have been beneficial for everyone involved if someone in the organization had encouraged Koivu to get over any insecurities he had and make more of an effort. My issues are with the journalists and others who suggested that a lack of knowledge or reluctance to speak a language was reason enough to throw someone of Koivu's worth under the bus. Making his French-language skills into a cause celebre was unecessary and unfair, in my opinion, and I threw "pequiste" (the r was a typo) in to try and separate the fucktards from the friendly. Perhaps just fucktards would have sufficed?

@ 29: That break-up wasn't because I misunderstood Francophones, it was because I misunderstood women.

Montreal Canadiens General Manager Bob Gainey today announced that goaltending coach Pierre Groulx and assistant coach Perry Pearn have been added to the team's coaching staff to work alongside head coach Jacques Martin. These nominations complete the Canadiens' coaching staff which also includes returning assistant coach Kirk Muller.

My suggestion would be to refrain from communicating such a lack of understanding to Mrs. HF10. That would be bound to end badly.

:)

Rédaction said...

@HF10: I don't mean to be an asshole, and don't assume I am a péquiste because im saying this, but are you saying that pequiste francos are fucktards and the other ones are friendly?

Interesting stat for you: in 1995, 63% of male francophones living in montrealvoted "oui". That would mean that there is 63% of chances that the francophones you know are -quote- "fucktards". Think about it, odds are that more than 3 out every 5 francos you know voted yes in 1995. I hope you don't call nationalists fucktards in front of your fanco friends, because you probably really look like a jerk.

Don't get me wrong, I'm as pissed off as I am when francophones make dumb-ass comments about anglophones living in Montreal. I grew up in NDG and am now studying in Quebec City, so Im constently defending the linguistic minority.

@ Moey: Oui! C'est un pays bilingue; ne devrais-tu pas savoir lire le Français? Hit google translation, it'll be quicker than actually learning French.
