Jerry Reinsdorf pulls out of the desert; NHL seeks to join its own club

The number two result for Phoenix in Google Images. Just screams hockey, doesn't it?

Big activity in the thrilling world of bankruptcy court yesterday. Gary Bettman's great white hope Jerry Reinsdorf's group has pulled out of the Phoenix Coyotes sweepstakes. This leaves potential suitors as uh, hmm, that guy, and uh, yeah, that group. Yeah, that's the ticket. You know, that guy?

Seriously, from the NHL's perspective, this leaves no one. Which is why the NHL yesterday submitted its own bid to buy the team. Gah! Any fan of the Montreal Expos will tell you how well a league-owned team can succeed. Although Bill Daly swears the NHL would flip it to a third party like some used car, how the fuck can they find a buyer when no buyer has come forward so far, when the price is bankruptcy-cheap?

There is another group who bid yesterday, a group of investors called Ice Edge Holdings. Ooh, edgy. This is the same group that earlier wanted to have the Yotes play some games in Saskatoon and other small Canadian markets. Chibougamau, the NHL is on the way!

Why yes, that is Jimmy Balls over there in the corner, alternatively weeping and smiling.

Bettman will purhcase the team for $200 million and turn around and sell it to Reinsdorf for $150 million. It's the ABB plan - Anything But Balsillie. Take a $50 million dollar hit to keep Jimmy out of the club.

5 weeks from tomorrow to puck drop! OH YEAH!

Boob Gainey said...

Nothing to do with Balsillie per se.

It's the anywhere but Canada plan. They know the team will have to move, they just don't want it to be to Canada.

The Canadian owners don't want the competition. The US owners still think they can find more fans.

Can the NHL be any more transparent and slimy? Fuck me.

I know it ain't the player's fault, but the Phoenix/Hamilton/Vegas/Kansas City Yotes need to be booed mercilessly in every rink in the league until Bettman dies. Or fixes this mess.

Yet another sign that, under Gary F. Bettman, the NHL has turned into a fucking bush league. (TM Mr. LG77)

I say we just get a whole bunch of people to throw in $20 each. The NHL doesn't really have any other options.

STFU GUY!!!

*sigh* He has an amazing talent for stating the obvious, all the while putting both feet in his mouth.

Perhaps the Cirque du soleil would be more interested in his singular blend of contortionism...

EVERYBODY STOP WHAT YOU'RE DOING.

There was an Austrian (Maybe Australian, who gives a shit) cop/dog tv show that ran from 1994-2004, do you fuckers want to guess what the name of the show, and presumably of the dog was?

I give you Kommissar Rex

Re: Lafleur.

Not disputing for a minute the soundness of your counsel, but he really doesn't say anything objectionable there.

Watch the NHL accidentally reject itself as an owner. Idiots.

Kommissar Rex should sue Dou$harek for stealing his name. Or at least hump the hell out of him.

Boob Gainey said...

I always knew Komisarek was a dog.

Boob - no he doesn't, he merely restates the obvious. The problem is a) that it's news and b) that he felt the need to share his opinion with everyone. And the headline doesn't help because it makes you think that he stepped in the merde once again.

I still stand by my STFU! Someone find that man a pack of smokes and a 24 so that he occupy his time while waiting for his appeal...

I'll bet that dog could whip Lucic's ass.

@ Shutdown, nice find. KRex's face is as doggone droopy as Dou$harek's.

@ lg77, I agree 100%, I heared Ti-Guy's comments via Corus Radio on the iPhone this AM and got a few looks when I yelped 'ferme ta christie d'gueule!' (Also, yes I was tuned into the purewoolian CKAC and only because CFNY101.2 was looping 'dean blondell sausagefest', incessantly).

Also, Go pants!

According to some media source that I'm too lazy to track down we made an offer to Robert Lang a while back. He hasn't said yes but he hasn't said no either. Remember he was our leading scorer when he was injured.

We also made an offer to Schneider but he wanted to see if he could get more money elsewhere, and the offer is now rescinded.

Ahhh yes. I remember while at the Draft this year the loud and lovely HA!MIL!TON! chant. Oh haha, NHL's bid is the lowest one there. Hilarious stuff.

Wait a sec. It's August? Guy's a bit early for his yearly lame much ado about nothing peanut gallery comment about the team he's an ambassador of...
