The Weekend Open Thread of Love is Heating Up

Hellooooo. So here's what we learned last night. Bruins suck. By some transitive property that means the Habs really sucked. That's right, Canes have a 3-1 series lead after Timmy Thomas returned to the old ways. I think "Go WhalerCanes!" is a chant we can all get behind. We also learned Pittsburgh has momentum, rookie Russian goaltenders are human, and Ovie can go knee-to-knee with the best of them. Finally we learned that JJ Abrams can make an excellent movie, even if serious Star Trek geeks may have some issues.

Oh hey, Canada won! That sets up the highlight of my TWOTOL, Canada-Russia for gold Sunday at 2 PM. And Pens-Caps go right back at it tonight even with a travel day, thanks to a Yanni concert on Tuesday in Pittsburgh. Yanni is all-powerful. 'Nucks-Hawks complete the Saturday night double-header. There's also plenty of hoops, Premiere League sponsored by Barclay's, the Fifth Major, and plenty of other stuff to discuss. Or go out and get a life. I keed, I keed. You think I won't be here with things heating up?

Okay, I saw Ovie being interviewed after the game last night, maybe he's not a total slime bag, it looked accidental and I think Gonchar is his mate. I'm afraid to watch the Ducks/Wings now, it's the Moey curse, first Markov, now Gonchar, is Pronger next?

Please Moey, watch the game. Pronger is one of the dirtiest "elite" players in the league, and I'd have no problem seeing him get serious ouchies.

BTW, he's 6 foot 6, but wears size 8 skates. I wonder what else about him is extra small. Hmm.

What's a Yanni? Did you sneeze while typing?

Gonchar is Ovechkin's summer training partner. I don't think it was on purpose at all. Gonchar just tried to avoid the hit, which he shouldn't have.

@Gillis,

I actually felt for Ovie during that interview last night, he was upset about it. It also affected his game in the third period. That being said I still want the Pens to win this series.

Perhaps it's time I started giving the Hurricanes some respect ...

Fucking Paul Maurice.

It's okay, eyebleaf. Carolina is like BizarroLand. Really now - Paul Maurice outcoaching the Jack Adams favourite? Cam Ward outgoaling the Vezina favourite? Jussi Jokinen making a Norris finalist look like a pylon? Sergei Samsonov not sucking?!

I bet they have four fans who write serious hockey analysis to post to their blog, along with pictures of conservatively-dressed men. *shudder*

Be very afraid if Breezer signs with the WhalerCanes next season.

Wasn't it Paul Maurice who took the Hurricanes to the Cup finals in 2002 when they lost to the Red Wings?

Maybe he only coaches well south of the Mason-Dixon Line.

There's nothing Bizarro about Zdeno Chara being made to look like a pylon.

What is bizarre is his good play during the regular season.
