More rumours from the Motherland - Kovy offered a deal and the "C"?

Well, it's from Russia, so take it with a grain of salt. Russian reports have Bob offering Kovy a one year deal for "near 6-7.5 million", and he'll throw in the captaincy for good measure. Here's a translation of the Russian report. Who knows if it's accurate - it refers to Bob as "Bob Haine." Maybe FHF regular Sleza can help.

If it's true, I, uh, hmmm. I love Kovy and want him to stay, but for 6-7 mill? And I miss Saku already.

Lap dance to Mirtle at From the Rink for the story

Im-fucking-possible.

Word verif (as if!) - noless

As in, Kovy is coming back for 6-7 mil, plus captaincy, noless.

Unless that Russian Reporter also has evidence that Bob Gainey has gone certifiably insane, I'm not buying it until I see the contract registered on NHLSCAP.

Good God, no. If that rumour turns out to be true Gainey needs to be shot.

I call bullshit.
No way that BG would offer that much money for only one year.
As for throwing the "C" into the mix, that's laughable as a contract clause, IMHO.

As Denis commented on that Russian Blog:

Solid roast duck, bear no relation to reality.Maybe it's over 2 years, which would be quite acceptible in my tiny mind.

To me, Kovalev is a bum. He's a waste of a roster spot. He's had one good year in four seasons here. If I have to hear the word enigmatic followed by Kovalev one more time, I swear I'll watch every Habs game in Japanese this season.

Now to waste $6 to $7 million on him? That's great. Why not just declare the fact we're tanking this season now?

@LDude - recently we have noticed in comments if you use an HTML tag, it kills paragraph formatting.

Seven mil over two seasons, no problem. Kovy with the C if Saku doesn't return, no problem. The article also has Gainey & Crawford as co-GM's and Roy as coach. It's a pile of crap.

L Dude said...

@Moey: I took it as saying that Bob Hartley and Marc Crawford would be Coach and Assistant Coach (not sure which is which), but that the job may be offered to Roy as well. And that an offer was NOT made to the Russian dudes.

Kate said...

@ L dude,

Oops, my mistake it was Bob Hartly and not Bob Haine.

Fucking love the translation, especially the comments. Solid Roast Duck!

I love Koivu, but I don't think he'll succeed in MTL.

Also, I wonder if Komisareku hits harder than Komisarek?

Good news: Pat Quinn won't be coaching the Habs.

I speak Russian, and I've never heard anything even approaching "solid roast duck".

However, that is now my favourite expression of all time, in any language, along with its variants:

Solid roast duckshit/duckass/duckfuck, fuckaduck, etc...

And yes, this rumour is pure Solid Roast Duck, to be taken with a grain of salt and shot of Stolychnaya.

They can't even fucking spell over in Russia (to much Vodka) and forget doing math...they probably heard rubbies or something along those lines which when converted equals like 375,000 per year which in my worthless fucking opinion is all Kovy is worth. Also as we know the Russians are only really fucking good at fucking up young Russian players life's with the Russian MTL Mafia...while simultaneously giving big Demers(he can't spell either) and the entire French media a coronary.... sooooooooooo I call bullshit also!

Molson to buy (back) our Habs? Better be better beer prices bubs.

Boob Gainey said...

Molson were shit owners.

Their beer is shit.

Why can't Robert "Unibroue" Charlebois buy the team?

I, too, would like to register my negative opinion towards this potential signing of Alexei Kovalev.

(At what point did he just become Alex?)

Somebody should tell those russians goin back to the motherland that there is a mafia organization in Montreal, it's like a home away from home.

MY word is "sonicsin" as in; signing Kovalev to a 7 mil contract would be a super sonicsin.

Alexei became Alex soon after he came here. Hey, anyone catch him on Les Boys? That was awesome. But why not, though. (Two-years makes more sense, however). If Koivu doesn't come back, it'll be sad...but I hate the crap they give that man... Kovy is our top point producer, even in a so-called crappy year. Plus the C doesn't bother him like it burdens other players. His teammates like him, he's very frank, doesn't give a damn what the media thinks, and the team goes the way he goes anyway much like Crosby/Malkin/Ovie/etc on their own teams. Was it really terrible when he was wearing the C while Koivu was injured? No, it wasn't.

Now...how about some real news like "Emelin has signed for life with the Habs, flips Russia the bird". C'mooooooon!

Well, from a friend who says Stu Cowan (Gazette sports editor) told him this (so take it with a grain of salt): the real reason Kovy was asked to take a "vacation" was because he grabbed Koivu by the neck and told him to "lead the fucking team!". If this were true, it would explain alot, like the "real" reason that Kovy had to cool down for 2 days. If it were true, then maybe Gainey wants someone that passionate who takes a more active role as a leader. How do we know if Saku can actually lead? He says the right meaningless things in interviews, but what do we know?

Shit, I forgot to swear in my post. Fuck, sorry about that.
