The Morning Skate is pretty annoyed with his boyhood idol for Thursday, May 28th

Allo allo! Well, the Conference Finals are over before they began. Yeesh. At least there was somewhat of an exciting ending, with the Wings winning in OT. But man, overall those Conference finals just killed the momentum of a great Playoffs. People were saying the NHL Playoffs were better than the NBA Playoffs. Not so much anymore. Anyway, we've got the Wings-Pens rematch the NHL must be happy with. For us, we're down with MYFO's LeNoceur. Not so much blech, though, but yawn.

Alright then, on to Mr. Lafleur. Lap dance to LG77 for throwing the tip our way that Guy is appealing his guilty verdict. We don't have that much of a problem with this. We are a lawyer after all, and that's the way it goes. But when it comes to dissing the captain, STFU Guy. "It's time he go play with his brother in Minnesota"??? Give us a break. We may have 29 in our moniker, but growing up it was all about Guy. The flowing blond hair streaking down the wing is burned in our memories. Now he's just pissing us off. As moeman said in the comments yesterday, he needs some class lessons from Béliveau on how to be a great ex-player.

A Video for Mom
Mom of TMS was pretty peeved at having missed our performance on CBC's Daybreak last week. So we tracked down the audio for her. It was pretty easy. Just find, download, unzip, and install a program to download CBC's 1999 Real Player technology file; find, download, unzip, and install an audio converter to make an mp3; realize Blogger doesn't like embedding audio, make a video with Windows Media Player; create a FHF YouTube account and channel; upload the vid, and embed. Good thing we still haven't got that life yet.

Our crappiest performance on Daybreak by far. We were given 20 minutes notice on a stupid topic we knew nothing about. And without the decent questioning of regular and soon to be departing host Mike Finnerty, we resorted to the ridiculous phrase "shall we say" at least three times, and the verbal tic "you know" at least three thousand. Enjoy.

Unfortunate that the attitude and spur of the moment instincts that made Guy such a fantastic player makes him such a fucking twit off the ice.

Also unfortunate: H 29's blasphemous half and half jersey.

HF10,

That's the only unfortunate thing you could think of re HF29? There's also his slice. =)

You know that's a bit of a glass house argument for me, TH-TO.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again; I didn't grow up watching the Flower, and I don't really understand the appeal.

Guy can GTFO for all I care.

The Flower is a bit like Zidane. Most of his brain is used for physical dexterity, with very little left over for thinking.

There's a reason he was never the captain, and he never had a job in hockey management like Lemaire, Savard, Robinson, Dryden, Gainey, etc ...

You know what irritates me is the half arsed reporting job. The natural thing would be to ask Guy what exactly is the problem he has with Koivu. How much do you want to bet he couldn't answer it.

Interesting timing. Don't you think it was all just his way of deflecting media coverage about his appeal today? Oh, and after watching the video here did anyone else get the strange urge to head down to Chez Paree for lunch today? Maybe it was just me.

@punkster - i'm happy at least one person made it all the way to the 2:08 mark considering how much i sucked

@ Boob. Easy on the Zidane rip. The man was a consumate leader on the pitch and hasn't embarrassed himself off it. Sure the head butt was dumb, but that fascist prick had it coming.

Boob Gainey said...

@KML

1. Marco Materazzi isn't a fascist, and all the bullshit about him making an ethnic slur against Zidane was a lie. A lie that Zidane had no problem letting go on as long as possible. Not embarrassing maybe, but certainly dishonorable.

2. Zidane was a thug his whole career. He'd been banned for head butting and spitting previously.

3. Zidane was over-rated anyway. All those fancy flicks looked good but they never hurt the other team. Their main effect was to take the dynamism out of any team he played for.

@ Boob:

And stomping. Don't forget stomping. Although I think Zizou was a pretty special player.

Actually, the Guy/Zidane comparison is pretty apt, talent and temperment wise. Guy just channeled the violence into smokes, drinks, and disco.

Saku may not have Lafleur's Cups and awards for his play but Koivu has shown nothing but exemplary class as our Habs Captain. I doubt we'll ever see Saku rip the Flower.

I don't like bertand raymond. Never have. Doubt I ever will. I find him smug. Most writers are but raymond pats himself too often on his back for my liking. I read he was in the HHoF. I don't think hockey writers deserve some kind of hall of fame honour. Not even Red Fisher. Same goes for people that deserve the Order of Canada. Running out the clock on a career shouldn't give anyone carte blanche to this award. Do something of value except just reading the freaking news to me.

Anyway, like I said, I don't like raymond. Yes he writes well and yes his blue&white sweater isn't made of the same pure wool his buddy rejean tremblay's is (but who's is?)

raymond writes decently today about Lafleur needing to STFU (FTMG en Français). raymond butters up Guy and rips the Habs as he is wont to do but he reminds #10 that some class need be involved. Its a longish read but worth it.

Original Rue Frontenac article.Babel'd FRE>ENG web translation (which are fun to read regardless).

29: You know, I like what you said near the 2:10 mark, very good point, you know

And what's wrong with the half and half jersey, you know? You know, I like it. You know, where can I get one?

Honestly, Lafleur does this about Saku every year. I really don't know why he hates him so much... But one thing I do know is Lafleur doesn't know when to shut up sometimes...
