It's TFS's team now

Jaro Halak has been traded to the St Louis Blues for Lars Eller and Ian Schultz. We have no idea who they are either. We'll check on that, and get back to you.

UPDATE: From the FHF scouting department:

Eller, 21, played in seven games for the Blues in 2009-10, scoring two goals and played 70 games for Peoria and recorded 57 points (18g, 39a). He was the 13th overall in pick in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.

Schultz, 20, played the last four seasons for the Calgary Hitmen in the Western Hockey League. He recorded 55 points (24g, 31a) last season. He was the 87th overall pick (3rd round) by the Blues in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.

Commence arguing! Er, continue arguing from the previous thread!

Media whoring update - yours truly will be on CBC Daybreak tomorrow morning at 7:40 AM to give his opinion. Which he doesn't really have yet. So all suggestions welcome! You can hear it on the web (link on the right side, "Listen Live").

Big Scoring Center = check.

Fighting Massive Goal Scorer = check.

We were going to lose a goalie. This could either save the franchise or lose some jobs. I like as much as anyone could for losing Halak. The KHL might be getting him anyways.

this management is a fucking joke!!!!!!! all of my habs paraphenalia is going in the garbage now. Fuck the habs and their bullshit. Carey Price will be just as useless as ever. What the fuck are they thinking. Is this the best they can do for a trade????? Fucking dumb fucktards!!!!!

mwpreston said...

Wow, this is great. I'm sure that next year Lars Eller and Ian Shultz are going to single handedly lead us past the caps and pens to get to the conference finals. Excellent...wtf? I Hate Phaneuff

Habsfan10 said...

Well, if anyone was wishing for something to happen, congratulations. Something to argue about for the next decade happened.

The Goat just cemented his legacy one way or the other.

God help Lars Eller and Ian Schultz, I guess. Carey Price too.

Jaybird said...

Once again Halak was not committed to playing for the Habs anymore by any means. This is way too early to make a decision on.

If one of these dudes turns out to be a star and Halak rides to the KHL or Price turns out to be the goalie we thought he was this move could be monumental. They are both the exact player types the Habs needed...and who knows how far they can grow.

What if Schultz turns out to be a Byfuglien and Eller a 30 G scorerÉ Of course they could both fail but we knew this was coming and now its Gauthier putting his nutsack on the line in one big move. Good for him.

moeman said...

They listened to Scotty Bowman, that can't be bad.

Also, sCHultz!

Unknown said...

@lehab: Can you videotape yourself burning it or throwing it away and put it on youtube?

bea.habs.fan said...

I'm not sure how I feel, other than thoroughly confused.

why would Halak go to the KHL when he worked so hard to get here? he was willing to start at the lower echelon to get better.

so who is goign to be sharing the goalie load with Price?

WHAT IS THE EFFING PLAN?

moeman said...

Also, Halak is now out of the East.

Now go and get Leighton back.

lehab said...

it is fucking buulshit! what if these guys can do whatever. We know what Halak can do. So what he has not committed to the team yet. Give him what he is worth and he will commit. Is the phat whale committed yet???? No, why would anyone commit when they are a free fucking agent... restricted or not.

wv hastolo vista you fucking habs

mwpreston said...

Everyone relax....we are just freeing up some cap space so we can sign saku.

Unknown said...

I really want Pricey to succeed, but now there's no viable backup (sign Leighton?) and we have two new prospects for Martin to ruin.

This feels like MickeyRibs for Niinimaa again. Talented player with questionable attitude traded for not much...

Maybe I'm just being too negative.

Jaybird said...

We have AHL All Star Cedrick Desjardins also.

Let`s get something straight here Ill say something nobody else wants to say:

We had a FLUKE of a playoff run led by Cammalleri, Gill, Gionta and Halak playing hockey they could probably never duplicate. The timing of Cammalleris goals was absolutely perfect and that doesn`t happen in the hockey world very often. This team had ZERO chance of beating the Flyers much less the Blackhawks due to size, fear and intimidation. We got some big players today and one of them is downright nasty and can score.

Yes we most likey lost the wrong goalie but I havent given up on Price yet due to his age. My point is our current team has no shot at a cup and we know very little about these prospects. Its too early to make any decision from my POV...although St. Louis or Lecavalier would have sent a little relief from losing the star of our team.

Kate said...

@mpr,

Exactly! Pleks can go sign somewhere else, sign Saku for 3.25 mil for one year. Saku & Cammy, ship AK46's ass to wherever. Bring back Kovy as the other winger. That line would be awesome in the playoffs. Me likey. I'm just fantasizing people, bear with me.

Not surprised at all by the Halak trade, I agree with moeman, Scotty B. might know a thing or two about hockey.

swarkles said...

This could end up as really awesome or total crap. I'm leaning towards total crap since that's what I'm used to.

Chenny13 said...

I don't really know what people were expecting. Halak isn't under contract, this is a trade for his negotiating rights. Lars Eller, according to hockey's future was the #2 prospect in the Blues system. I would have loved a roster player like Perron/Backes too, but let's be realistic about this.

WV: a perfectly placed 'Harack'. A Japanese man's Halak?

Are there sweet dreams & pretty things dancing in Cedrick D's head?

Is TFS tossing hay bales with extra gusto?

Is someone sitting on a warehouse full of Jaro jerseys?

so many questions.

wv: trying to not steress out

vcjay said...

One had to go, we all knew that. Halak was going to get more value than Price on the trade front, and Price will sign cheap because he still remains unproven.

I think the real problem with the team is the amount of money committed to Gomez and Gionta, both of which play well below their contract value. This prevents us from signing the impact players needed to ge tthe job done.

Get used to seeing "Sargent" Schultz and Lars (ha - really? That's his fucking name?) on a daily basis.

people are arguing with their hearts instead of their brains, think about it. halak was eligable for arbitration and price was not...its not even for sure that halak will sign what the blues offer and NOT go to arbitration! im guessing halak will get in the range of 4-5 mil for 3-5 years...why commit to that for 3 months of outstanding play? look at tim thomas..vezina winner, 5 mil contract...and the bruins have to run with tukka rask down the stretch and into the playoffs!

WV: deness. Deness from Denmark!

orangeman said...

The question has always been do they choose the franchise over the player. This trade answers that question. Carey Price is more important to the head office than the Montreal Canadiens or their fans. BG gave him enough chances, yet we're supposed to give him more and more while discarding those that actually prove their worth with none of the support or not nearly as much time.

Whatever, they've made their position clear. Either choose Price or don't be a Habs fan. Because for some reason the Habs have become the Carey Price show. A guy takes us to the Conference finals almost single-handedly against the two top scoring teams, then goes out only because his team couldn't score a single goal for three games. Yet we rewrite history and say it was a fluke. We rationalize the deal because, hey, it's the Carey Price show and the Montreal Canadiens take a backseat. So what if they lose, fail to make the playoffs or are embarrassed by his childish antics and selfish penalties. It's his team, not anyone elses, not even the fans. And then everytime he loses we can blame the team in front of him. The team just isn't good enough for him. Yeah, Halak got the exact same team to the Conference finals, but that was a fluke.

Don't get me wrong, I want Price to succeed. I want him to shine and win every game. I also want to live in reality, where we use the past to predict the future, not rewrite it to justify selfish and delusional decisions.

So I guess I will close with GYFCPG! (Go You Fucking Carey Price Go!) because the Montreal Canadiens don't matter anymore. It's only about Price, this the front office has made clear.

mr trivia said...

Halak vs Price debates used to be brutal. Now they're going to be VIOLENT.

Oleg Petrov said...

When will Chicago buy out Cristo? Let's bring him back on the cheap, so he can remind young Carey of more innocent, less crapulent days.

In my head, I keep hearing Gary Numan's "Cars", except the end of the chorus has been changed to "Here's Lars". Catchy tune.

mr. gillis said...

I heard about the trade on mix96 or whatever they fucking call that shitty radio station. The person talking was fucking clueless and thought that the world was about to fucking end. Then some guy called in saying that it is a huge mistake, unless there is a second part to the deal. To them I say, keep your mouth shut. Would they prefer Halak accepting a huge offer sheet that the habs can't match and then lose Halak with nothing in return other then a lousy draft pick? The radio guy started saying that it might be for business reasons. Some people should not be talking hockey and stick to giving away free tickets to Justin Bieber. I was in a "I hate the world" mood today... I still am.

FUCKING MEH!

PS. the last Jaro post better be fucking legen... wait for it... dary.

Cowboyatheart said...

I think Carey's got more upside. I'm not suprised Jaro went. Carey, Jaro, Plekanec, one had to go.
I see Jaro being above average with occasional streaks of hotness like the playoffs, and occasional streals of cold. We've seen him suck before.

Carey's either gonna light it up next year (hopefully - he did play well this year, just seemed the team - him included - seemed to find a way to lose) or he's gonna be lit up. I'd rather gamble on a win, or a loss, than hang about mired in mediocrity.

Keyword undium, If this works the ladies will throw their undiums at him. If not, we'll complain about how he filled his own.

Kmaxx said...

Ok - look - I went away and got all World Cup'd out for a bit - sneak back to have a peek and make sure you are all ok - then look what happened! So everyone needs to chill for a bit...

I think that it was obvious that Halak was going to go...he played awesome in the playoffs but he did play way over his paygrade...and I don't want another Tim fuckin' Thomas staring us in the face for 3-5 years...so we now need some support for Carey - which means that the Goat's next move should be pretty fuckin' interesting...

Also, as it appears that Scotty Bowman put his approval across for this - then that's good enough for me.

orangeman said...

Not to be overdramatic with my comments. I knew Halak would go, and there are business elements that I don't understand. My feelings about it are more the way he was treated the whole time he was in Montreal rather than this actual trade. Of course I want the Habs to succeed, I'll always root for them. And it's not even all about the level of play or talent. Price has not, in my eyes, conducted himself in the most classy manner in his time in Montreal. Yeah, yeah he's young. And we're still going to be saying tha when he's 50. But, yeah, I hope he proves me wrong.

Mr. natural said...

@orangeman:

I've pretty much agreed with all your comments about Price/Halak even your maniacal rages (my favorites), but what's done is done, let's get over it and move on, support our team.

orangeman said...

@Mr. Natural: I'm moving on. I thought I made that clear in my last comment. I hope Price is great, I will root for my Habs no matter what. I'm not upset by the trade per se, just the way Halak was treated all year. That's all.

Quotes:

"Schultz, who was sent to Montreal along with former first-round pick Lars Eller, hopes to take some of the sting out of that deal in the near future.

“I’m sure Montreal fans won’t be too happy about Halak being traded,” Schultz said. “But I’m ecstatic to be going to a great organization.

“Montreal has outstanding fans and you always read about that team when you’re younger.

“Now, to be another chapter in that, it’s quite an honour.”
