It's time for some celebrating

"Canada leads the Olympic gold medal standings" is not something I ever expected to hear in my lifetime. But that's exactly the phrase that was used as I watched sports news this morning. I think that deserves some celebrating, Canada style. How about some good old-fashioned bullet points to recap yesterday's action worth celebrating:
  • Roller Derby! FINALLY the short track men get off the schneide, come up huge. Gold and bronze in the 500m. Gold in the relay. Charles Hamelin, double gold-medalist. My goodness that sounds amazing;
  • I'm not sure if we should celebrate those last 10 minutes of the third period, but the boys were cruising til that point. Anyway, it's a 3-2 win over the Slovaks thanks to LOOOOUUUUUU, and a rematch date with the Americans Sunday;
  • Cheryl's silver curling medal was heartbreaking at the time, given she had two chances to win gold and blew them both. But she had a great run overall, so we'll celebrate that;
  • The men's long track pursuit team is guaranteed at least a silver after advancing to the final yesterday. We'll just ignore what happened to the ladies.
Hopefully today will be another day worth celebrating. Besides the aforementioned long track pursuit, Kevin Martin goes for gold in the men's curling final, Canada 1 sits in second place after 2 runs of the 4-man bob, and we have real medal chances in men's snowboard parallel GS. Grab a brew and some champagne, and let's have a toast.

Just saw the highlights from last night's game. That was hairy at the end. I was watching the back of my eyelids by 10:00, woke up this morning and didn't know if we had won.

Thank God for an afternoon game tomorrow, I can catch it between naps. *yawn*

I love that picture, and I'm immensely proud of our women for their "inappropriate" celebration. Pass the cigar!

I was really hoping to see ''Charles Hamelin, Olympic hottie of the day'' this morning.

Go Canada Go!

In other news, Apollo Anton Ohno is a whiny, ungracious fucking sore loser prick who spent the entire race in 4th and wasn't going to get past Hamelin even if he hadn't been disqualified. Shit in a hat you hipster fuckstick.

@cotton -
Charles Hamelin, Olympic hottie of the day.

What I found really in keeping with the new dancing on the podium/dreadlocking wearing Olympian is the way that Hamelin and his girlfriend made out after he won the first gold. There was the standard "OMG" hug and then the "I'm trying to catch my breath" kiss but it kept going into the "I know there's nothing to be ashamed of but let me just see if I can get that erection back now that I have a medal too yup I sure do" ass grab followed by another "I just want to eat your face" kiss and a "just let me check one more time OMG IT WORKS! let's do it right now in front of the world" lower back rub. Ah, young Olympian love.

This just in, an IOC official, who prefers to remain anonymous, has asked for an investigation into the Hamelin-Gelais public ass-grabbing. He suggests that Canadians can keep their cabin-fevered lust indoors and in the future do as IOC officials do and pay for high priced escorts to help them relieve the stresses of performance, anxious or not. The official did add that Cheryl Bernard has a wondrous Canadian derrière.

Oh and I forgot the group "how do you feel about a threesome" hug and the "are you sure because you girls are so hot" hand hold.

@HF10 - "Shit in a hat you hipster fucksitck" is the best sentence I've read in a long time.

The crime isn't that she was drinking beer, the crime is that it's a Coors Light...

Those Norwegian pants are just too much!

GoldenGirl11 said...

Even with those pants Ulsrud is hot.
That said Go boring black curling pants!

lawyergirl77 said...

Mrs. Nussbaum - holy shit, you and I think alike... I was just thinking that Ulsrud's hotness knows no limits if he can rock those fugly pants like that.

Seriously, though. HOT.

Mercifully, Canada has one hottie on its team (John Morris), so I can still cheer for them for non-jingoistic reasons.

Oh, and 29 - did you see the typo in the "hotties" tag? Who do you think you are? Panger??

moeman said...

Both skips at 69%.

GoldenGirl11 said...

I think the woman in front of Harper is knitting the curling medals.

iRiRi said...

GOLD!!!

I vote for John Morris as Olympic hottie of the day tomorrow. Please?

Le Douze said...

@RiRi - as I said, Kevin Martin's not my body type, but if I swung the other way, Johnny Mo wouldn't be half bad. Three double takeouts and a triple? Holy fuck, batman! +1.

@LN11 - you made me very sorry I missed Hamelin's medal celebration. Can they take back a medal if you do the horizontal tango on world wide television?

Own the Podium is looking a lot less stupid this week than last.

GoldenGirl11 said...

@Le12
I understand Seymore Butts already has a movie offer for the Hamelin Bros in the works should the medals be revoked. Two of the working titles are "Short Track Mate" and "Relay Moan". It's a win win situation.

FIN vs SVK = boring. Finland looks out of it, Slovakia looks ok with just skating around, and TSN is talking random shit. It's so bad I've put it on mute and will probably throw on a record soon because my hamster is nibbling things in his cage and it's kind of annoying right now...

Also FUCK YAH 13 GOLD MEDALS! Good to see the manly chokers have turned things around nicely. Seriously, Team Pursuit is like watching a machine run smoothly. Not as crazy exciting as those Norwegian pants though.

Oh Salo just scored, high glove on Jaro. Holy sweet destruction by Mikko Koivu! Maybe now these guys will get interesting.

orangeman said...

I tuned into the Slovakia-Finn game just in time to hear "Saku Koivu knocked down Chara" at which point I turned off the TV, poured out my drink and called a nice little rehab facility in Hawaii.

Congrats to all our medal winners today. I literally got dizzy with excitement during the puruit. And JJ's gold medal run was unbelievable, all within 5 minutes. 13 golds, which I believe is a record (tied with a chance to break it tomorrow) for a winter games. From none to first. Nice.

And Ohno needs to STFU, the whiny little bitch. Yeah, the guy has 8 medals but almost each one has been the result of either falls by others or questionable DQs. In the relay last night China slipped right at the end for the US to squeak in 3rd. Obviously you have to have skill to put yourself in the mix that often but Ohno really does benefit from very controversial calls more often than anyone else and has never seemed to get called himself until finally last night. After all his races Ohno either runs to the ref crying or he jumps up and down to celebrate. Last night he was just smiling and skating in circles after the race. He knew he was DQed so for him to then blame some vast Canadian conspiracy is incredibly lame. What a prima dona ass.

And that's my rant.

SVK fell appart in the 3rd oy. Hugs to Jaro but SAKU SAKU SAKU! WOO! Bronze for Saku!
