The Morning Skate for Friday, February 5th

Bullet points for what you missed while dreaming of Alison Brie in a bikini...
  • Play huge stretches like crap. Give up 40+ shots. Let Jaro stop a bunch of them. Win! It's the Jacques Martin system everybody! Somehow this morning the Habs are 6th in the East. The East is fucked up;
  • Kovalchuk goes to... the Devils? Atlanta gets a famous suspended junior player for him. If Waddell is being truthful that Kovy rejected a $101 mill, 12 year deal, well, hmm, that's a lot of cash;
  • The streaks are alive. Sens beat the Nucks 5-1 to extend their win streak to 11 games, while the Caps beat the Rangers 6-5 to take their streak to 12;
  • Tampa Bay is winning some games (5-2 over the Isles last night) and moving up in the East;
  • I'll give you one guess who scored the game winner for the Wild.
Here are the video highlights for those of you who were out for dinner.

There is one big problem Sir Bob faces when looking to make changes, namely...we don't have any fuckin players anyone else would want! Well maybe except for Squid (he's injured)and Markov and Plecks and Jaro...but apart from that - who else...actually the Chicken is doing well...Ah fuck...I don't know what we can do - but come one not 1 period with 10 shots on goal! How fuckin difficult is it to SHOOT THE PUCK AT THE NET? Sorry - rant over...Go Habs Go!

To be fair, it doesn`t look like they`re winning the Cup this year, so why bother giving Subban (the one bright, cheerful spot in our future), a 1st rounder, etc. for
a Kovalchuck rental...

That being said,

BOB, SIGN PLEKS STAT!

Latendresse scored again last night: winning goal and set up the insurance goal.

Yes, I know Pouliot is good, but how the fuck did they miss that?

Was there a game last night? I kind of got 'sidetracked' and my mind wandered elsewhere after reading Moey's description of herself:
High heels, makeup, bubble baths
I've decided to stay in that alternate reality for awhile. It's nicer there and the Habs don't suck.

Did you have to post the highlights from the NESN feed? I heard enough of Jack Edwards' douchebaggery last night.

Gui is like the girlfriend who for years told you she was saving herself for marriage and refused to even let you look at her naked. You get fed up with it, find a different gal who's quite great only to hear through the grapevine that she's doing the nastiest (in a good way) stuff with some boring geek you went to high school with.

Seriously, fuck Gui.

On a happier note, I love Trudy! By love I mean I think she is incredibly attractive.

How Waddell still has a job is beyond me... That's one lousy trade. Also, he owns me some money because my make up went all wrong for all the crying this caused. Mascaras aren't free, dammit!

If you don't take the money...
we'll ........
SEND YOU TO NEW JERSEY!

Good threat.

Surely there must be someone in Hamilton we could send to Atlanta
for Cormier. Give me wings and I can elbow someone!

By the way, any truth to the rumour that now that he is in Toronto, Phaneuf will be changing his name back to the original Farnsworth? Look it up, it captivating. The Leafs will now screw up their chance at a good draft pick, thus confirming that Harold Ballard forever left the curse of sucking on that team. Or was it the gesture Punch Imlach made when he walked out the door headed to Buffalo.

Lousy trade... How's that? Atlanta's not a cup contender this year, and Kovy had already rejected a small country's GDP to stay another year.

In return, Atlanta gets Cormier who - as long as he doesn't murder anyone along the way - will probably develop into a solid first-liner. They get a first round pick, and three other young players who can do some good. Sounds like a pretty decent star-for-depth trade to me.

I don't know where you get the idea that Cormier is a 1st liner. He's never lit it up in the QJMHL (130 points in 180 games). He's strictly a character guy (aka a thug).

If you think Waddell did good, recall what the Bruins got for Phil Kessell.

@boob - Oduya's a pretty good D, too, always impresses me. But more in the mold of a Josh Gorges or Kris Letang than a Zdeno Chara (in a good year) or Nik Lidstrom (in any year) or Dion Farnsworth (in CotU dreams). But frankly, unsigned, rentals aren't worth a lot as trade bait. B's got all that loot for PK at the beginning of the season - and look what it got them in the "GF" column of the team standings. Better to compare what teams got for guys like Hossa in past years at the deadline... not so much, I think. By that standard Waddell made the best of a bad lot.

@ RiRi, sign plex now... THAT would be useful.
I'm not saying we need to go all blockbuster and get Rick Nash (something I'd love) for Gill. Or St. Louis and St. Vinny for Bob's soul but signing SuperPlex is both something and useful.
