The Morning Skate for Day 4 of Shivah

Bullet points for what you missed while dreaming of getting rid of the fucking black background so you can read this blog again without permanent eye strain...
  • Bob has his annual post-mortem press conference. He said nothing relevant or newsworthy. Habs may look for a big forward this summer. Don't we say that every year?
  • Team Canada plays like crap, still manage to beat USA 5-4 at the Double Eye. Heater got the winner in the final minute, as he and linemates Nash and Getzlaf continue to dominate;
  • Don Cherry set to be exposed to Americans, all six American hockey fans buy sunglasses.

Yes, yes, we're getting to the season review, we swear.

Woo hoo! Thanks again for getting rid of the black background!!

Someone at work yesterday raised the spectre of a Flyers-Dallas Stanley Cup final. I nearly tossed my cookies.

Seriously - who the fuck would you guys cheer for in that nonsense?? Why is "over my dead body" NOT an option??

You are bang on with saying that Gainey promises the big forward every year. Well, guess what. I'll save you the suspense: we're not getting a big forward. If I had to make a prediction, I'd say....we're getting...(gazes intently into crystal ball)...Yanic Perreault.

I am sick to death of Gainey. His press conference was exactly what I expected, and exactly what I feared: "Lots of experience gained this year, no need to add a whole lot of players, pleased with what I saw, etc etc." What shocked me was his open admission that he has no interest in getting the type of players that are essential to winning the Stanley Cup.

So forget getting any game-breaker. It ain't happening.

Regarding the CanadiAn team, am I the only one who LOVES the old style half leaf jersey that they were sporting? I'm not that old (made in the 80s) so it's not like I grew up with it completely. But it symbolises Canadian hockey to me.

I found a cap with that logo on it in a bin at a Tokyo flea market a couple of years back. Single biggest find I've had at a flea market/garage sale. For a buck! From the '81 Canada Cup.

Man, everytime I look at that logo I think, "Fuck yeah. Go Canada!" It sits proudly on my shelf with my mini Canadian flag and mini Habs Stanley Cup.

And crack pipe, of course.

Orangeman,

I freaking love that jersey. Many a time I've debated buying one of those bad boys ... the only issue is the name to have on the back.

Glad to see we changed to Next Habs Game ... I hated seeing that Flyers series up there.
