Just when things were getting exciting. Our awesome threeway (predictions contest) with Shmee and CapsChick has gone swimmingly so far, thanks to a 4-0 shutout in the opener. Rumour has it the Caps need to win 8-1 for one of the ladies to take the contest, but it involves math so the lawyers are in no position to check on that.
Wating in line details - 9 PM, ABC. Will Jack get all the Losties rescued? Will Locke keep them on the island? Oh right, hockey. 7 PM Verizon Center. Don't forget, February 2nd is Mr. Potato Head Day there! (seriously, the first 5,000 kids will receive a Capitals-Branded Mr. Potato Head)
Habs are hot. No two ways about it. 10-2-2 in their last 14. 6-1-1 in their last 8 on the road. Washington was pretty hot coming in to this home and home, but now you can say they've lost two of their last three, with their only win coming against the Leafs. However, Caps have gone 30 games without losing two in a row in regulation.
Hot sexy Habs to watch - Kovy, Pleks, and HueT are leading the way. The Swiss Mister had a goal and a helper on Tuesday and is heading towards a career year.
Hot sexy Caps to watch - we can't keep Ovie down forever, can we? Olie the goalie expected to get the start.
Skanky Habs to watch - Kovy's thumb. It's not broken, but bears watching. El Dandy must be getting tired of the press box. Gui! is MIA, or at least his scoring ability is.
Skanky Caps to watch - [space left blank for fear of angering hockey gods]
In the VIP Room - h/t to Shmee for pointing us to the Washington Post and their story about Habs "piling it on" in the last minutes of Tuesday's game, leading to extra motivation for the Caps. I personally think that Carbo is so clueless he just had no idea how much time was left in the game.
Post-game adult entertainment establishment - we're busy with the threeway. No time for strippers.
K let's hear your dirty thoughts in the comments, either hockey or Lost-related.

The Washington Post barely ever covers anything hockey-related. They're idiots, hockey-wise.
LOST TONIGHT!
Maybe Washington should have been a little more concerned about keeping the puck out of their net and less about who was out on the ice with 2 minutes left. Threr were three Caps standing around Kovy when he scored, not making his life very difficult.
The Habs should have backed off. It's not fair to score 4 goals in a game. It's not very nice at all. Mean old Habs. I'm telling on them! And then, after naptime, I'll make them apologise to Ovie and the Caps.
alright totally not enough comments on here. at this rate we're losing. not to mention yours truly has people coming over to watch Lost so my entries will be limited.
While Washington hands out M. Potato stuff, the Caps didn't realise the Habs where only going for the chicken wings!
i make jokes, but i love Mr Potato Head. If there was a Habs one id buy 2
@29: It's Mrs. Fezworth's b-day this evening, and as a consequence, I'm not watching Lost tonight.
While I hope you enjoy your Lost party this evening, I request that you maintain strict 'no-spoilers' behaviour here. Any hints or cryptic messages will make me very upset. I can't be responsible for the result, should you accidentally let something of consequence slip regarding tonight's episode.
That is all.
I second Fezworth's motion...
It'd be nice to see a couple of goals from Higgins. I had really high hopes for this guy this year. He has done okay, but nothing too exciting for the last couple months.
ok in deference to our regulars, this thread will be Lost spoiler-free. if you feel the need to talk Lost, do it in generalities, like "the episode was fucking great!" or "did you see what Jack did there?"
shoutout to my Lost watchers, Tat, Pat and Reno. woohoo! FINALLY
Never seen an episode of Lost. Never want to.
Well, that's a fucking lousy start.
Well, I just lost my feed. Looks like radio silence for HF10 ... again.
Fuck blackouts.
Radio is found! Now I just can't see Ovechkin's goofy hair. Fair enough, I suppose.
Hello ... is this thing on?
Another advantage of living on the west coast: Habs games don't interfere with prime-time TV. Almost makes up for games starting in the afternoon.
That over-the-glass penalty is still the stupidest thing I've ever seen in the NHL. And I've been watching Al Strachan for _years_.
10, you don't want to see Ovie's hair, trust me
Remember the Devils! we can come back from anything!!!
Sorry stuck at work. To catch up:
@msevigny: I disagree. Why shoul;d it ponly apply to the goalies (when no one complained about the rule) and not players?
Ovie got all of his hair behind that one. Woah.
how are our boys doing?
panger: I always felt it was a disproportionate punishment. Treat it like icing, take away their right to change on the break, maybe give the refs the power to call a penalty if it looks like they're doing it repeatedly on purpose. But a penalty? It feels like an artificial way to boost power plays (and thus scoring).
It doesn't help that I seem to remember the Habs taking the penalty several times against the Canes in the playoffs a couple years ago.
Me, I'm fine with the rule. NHL players should damn well be able to keep it below the glass. Besides, with Breezer out, it's a rare Habs occurence.
Jesus, this team sucks on faceoffs.
Fuck.
Fuck indeed. And "shot" is also apparently a four letter word for the Habs in this game. 19-8....
@29: I relent. I'd rather hear Lost spoilers than discuss this debacle. Man, I'd hate to have seen what would have happened had the Habs won 5-0 on Tuesday.
good thing im watching this Lost recap show and not the game. 19-8 in shots?? blech...
w00t we got a ball game again, folks !
Lost? wtf is wrong with you man...
Weird period. Habs generally sucked, but came out of it with 2 goals thanks to Ti-Tits and Gros-Tits. Shots still lopsided at 25 to 13. Ça n'a pas d'osti d'allure...
Happy to report that Carolina tied it up in T.O. although my hapiness tempered by the fact that Samsonov assisted. Grosse plotte.
If it weren't for Ovechkin imagine how crappy the Caps would be...
Well, hard to win a game when you only have 17 shots...
But, yes. He makes the team.
Consider this: jagr, drury and gomez = $25 million a year and 38 goals.
Ovechkin = 42 goals at $3.83 million this year (incl bonuses).
Think about it, if Ovechkin wasn't there we would have won 4-1. Most likely.
What the heck? I stopped listening to the game and was following things on Yahoo Sports, and when I noticed it was 3-2 I thought "hey, there's a game" and turned it back on, just having missed Alex scoring his fourth goal, in overtime. Thanks for nothing, Yahoo.
Well, the Habs got a point, and made a comeback, which I wouldn't have guessed based on the first half of the game. And it seems Ottawa lost in regulation, so that's down to five points out.
That was an amazing game. I took my buddy Pat, who proudly wore his Habs hat, so I got some ribbing from the regulars.
The Verizon Center erupted in boos when the Habs tied it at the end, which made me laugh. We are the Captitals...every time we have a chance to put it away, we manage to turnover the puck and go to OT.
Best shots: The VC going crazy after Ovie's goals 3 and 4. Donald Brashear trying to get any of the Habs to fight him, and not a single one stepping up. And of course, the Habs fan who threw a burrito onto the ice. It exploded next to Huet's skate.
I am sure the box score doesnt do the game justice. ovie scores 4, Gui! scores 2 in the 3rd to tie it including one in the last minute (AND Tits goal withe ONE SECOND in the 2nd) and Ovie gets an OT winner???
Damn, sounds great. Lost wasn't even that good.
Shmee! I cant believe I missed all this watching stupid Lost
so who wins? it's too much math!
Haha, we will have to do the math tomorrow.
I definitely win the fight prediction! Poor Brash, he was literally shoving any Hab within reach and NO ONE would fight him.
