Please have a seat, it's gonna be a long season - Flyers Game Preview and Open Thread

Sure, no one is more for freaking out and fearing the collapse than me - just see TMS from yesterday - but for one night, we're gonna do the Zen thing. It's mid-November. Still a LONG way to go. So when the Habs hit the Phone Booth ice at 7 PM with Jaro and Bégin but without DOOM, we're just gonna grab a delicious beverage and take some deep cleansing breaths, remembering a long season has tons of ups and downs.

For all you guys saying "yo Goober, where's the meat? Especially against the Flyers? After that Bruins disaster? I don't come here for flaky liberal bullshit.I'm eager to go psycho! Get angry MOTHERFUCKER!!!" I hear ya. Like I said, still a LONG way to go. If this doesn't work, I'm sure I'll be twice as angry tomorrow.

Meditate with me in the comments, omm, omm.

anyone watching this Als game? it's pretty good

Let's hope Carbo made the boys watch the Al's game. That's how a team play with emotion!!!

At least Begin is in tonight.
And the Flyers don't have that douche Umberger anymore.
I'd rather be at work than watch another effort like Thursday's. Jeebus.

Is Brière in? Too lazy to check?

p.s. that was a lazy TMS

Ah, fuck it. You guys don't need to fear any collapse. My guys are the collapse. Don't worry, they'll find a way to live down to their whiny, slacker Millennial age group and pull out the "L" for tonight.

@HF29 - I was at the Als game today. Awesome. And I'm going to the Grey Cup game next Sunday, so I am stoked!

The Habs better not ruin my good mood tonight. Fuckers.

Als game was a hoot!

RDS' Valérie Sardin is something to behold. I think I just gave blood.

Go Habs!

Go Nucks!

Fuck cbc/hnic.

Damn HNIC, I'm stuck watching Leafs/Canucks. Oh well, probably for the best - I hear DOOM is out tonight, which spells DOOM for Montreal.

I am already sick of this team. same shit every year. They need a centre, they need a centre...okay lets get Bonk, doesn't work. Okay lets get Smolinski...again doesn't work. Okay, let's get Lang......well it is still early but I can already tell you, doesn't work.

Gainey better take a good hard look at this team, because as it stands they may not even make the playoffs...and if they make it, first round exit...guaranteed.

a;right the Zen thing isn't working. time to FREAK THE FUCK OUT

OKay...so last year Gainey trades away Huet for almost nothing right before the playoffs...why you ask? Because Price is ready, he's the man. Well he then proceeds to play sub par in the playoffs, and now they don't even have enough confidence in him to play him against a tough opponent after 2 nights rest? What the hell...if he is the man he should have been in the net tonight. I am not saying that Halak is the problem tonight I am just highlighting one of the issues this team has. If Price is the man he should be playing on 2 nights rest...like any other number 1. Enough with this platoon bullshit. Establish an identity for this team.

When is A. Kostitsyn going to come out to play? He has been useless this year.

Lang's breakaway shot was no better than a beer league level shot.

Lostinleafland said...

I agree Matt.
Brodeur has played 70+ games since what,,peewee.
Tell Price to man up, get a new mask and expect to play 65+ games a year.
I can't put my finger on it but something is missing?
Size, grit, consistency, 4 solid D-men, good coaching?.
2-0 to Philly. fuck

Can someone tell me which asshole from the MLSE is giving blow jobs to staff at CBC?
Leafs are in Vancouver so they put that game during prime time? 4PST??.
I hate CBC and the Leafs. fuckin' morons.

Thank god that the fans don't run the team. IT'S NOT EVEN 20 GAMES INTO THE SEASON PEOPLE. Yes, I agree they are not playing well lately, but have you guys all forgotten what it was like 5-10 years ago? Remember Patrick Poulin? Remember when Lyle Odelin was our #1 shutdown defencemen? Well I do and I'm allot happier with this team.

Price - even Luongo was inconsistent his first few years. He was burnt out by the end of the season last year (like Brodeur BTW). Halak needs to play; he's not a vet like Curtis Joseph that can sit for a month.

Lang - is a HUGE upgrade over Bonk and Slowinski, but he's still a 3rd line centre. Where's Kovalev??

Gianey does need to upgrade at D. I really like Franky Bouillon, but him, Breezer and Rhino are killing us. Rhino's forgiven cause he'll get better, but Gainey knows what he's got in Breezer and Cube: not enough.

This is like watching the Habs circa 1999. Passes not connecting, shots going 5 feet wide. No forecheck. No one but Koivu showing any emotion.

And as I type that we get a good chance turn into a weak backhand from the corner.

I'm not panicking because I know what this team CAN be. If they want to be that. No one's expecting wins every game, but a solid effort would be nice.

Frustration.

panger, i respectfully disagree. I think you are seeing their true colours tonight. Yeah, I agree their D is bad, I have said that on many occassions, but they don't have enough on offense either. Which really sucks because that was supposed to be their strength. They can't score when the going gets tough...teams can manhandle them. And, I am not comparing them to teams with Lyle Odelein or Oleg Petrov...who cares about those teams? I am comparing them to teams they can match up with in the playoffs.

Brodeur played 65+ games when he was winning cups. You may say he was burned out in the past few years, but I think it is more likely that the times he was playing on weren't as good.

Anonymous said...

Ok, fine, no goal, but where's the delay of game penalty?

WOOOOOOOOOOOTTTTTT!

Carry on.

Lostinleafland said...

check out www.hockeydb.com.
Brodeur played 70+ games for 12 straight years...regardless.
Habs are better than they have been in 10 years (I agree with that.) Several key contracts expire this year, so my concern is quite frankly, our time is NOW and I pull my hair out when I see a flat performance 2-3 games in a row. Saku is flying tonight.

Anonymous said...

They can't even win battles when they are up a man...they are such an easy team to play against...say hello to another 1st or 2nd round exit calibre squad.

Anonymous said...

fuck,,,bottom line,
Philly-29 shots, Mtl-19.

Anonymous said...

When I said times in one of my posts above...I meant teams.

Anonymous said...

What a waste of a Sunday morning for me. Habs seemed scared of touching Flyers. That last 3 minutes, with a PP and an empty net was the boringest part, go figure.

Sure, DOOM is injured but Gainy's got to get another D, big and tough, soon. Like tomorrow.

And Breezer was on the ice for the last minute? Pourquoi? I don't even hate the guy as much as everyone else, but it just doesn't make sense to me. This team doesn't make sense to me.

HFF33 aka Panger said...

@Matt - do you really think they are going to add another scorer? I think it's unlikely. We'll see, though.

@Lostinleafland - I never though playing goalies 70+ games a year was a good idea. Brodeur obviously could handle it in his prime, but if you look back I don't think there are a lot of goalies who had playoff success playing 70 plus regular season games. Of course I'm a goalie so I'm biased.

I do agree whole-heartedly that this is the year to go for it. All I'm saying is that it is too early to panic and they're not really as bad as they've played the last few games. Too many chicken littles around here!!!

Anonymous said...

Not even 20 shots...in a game after they were EMBARASSED.

Not looking goog, not looking good.

Anonymous said...

on the bright side, the Leafs lost!!

Anonymous said...

@panger. no I don't think they are going to go after another scorer. But they kind of need someone with some grit and can play on a line with Koivu and Tanguay...that guy is not Latendresse, who they tried with them in the 3rd period.

Gainey need to shake something up now...while they have a good record. Not when it is too late.

And on the goalie situation, Price had 2 nights off, plenty of time to rest...he is supposed to be number 1, he should have played.

Anonymous said...

well...tomorrow they play St. Louis...we will see how this goes. I wonder if Price is rested enough to play tomorrow.

I agree with putting the Kostitsyn's with Lang. Andre is doing nothing...nothing...may as well try him with his brother. If only it wasn't Latendresse who has to move from that line to play with Tanguay and Koivu...

Anonymous said...

HF29, I want to hear some of your thoughts on this game...I know you are pressing the panic button like I am.

Anonymous said...

Time for Plan B(eefcake).

Time to bust out the manflesh in the St. Louis Game Preview and Open Thread tomorrow. Or does that only work with Leaf games?

copyranter said...

The Flyers came in with a game plan: defend, defend, defend. They did it and stuck to it. Their defensive zone coverage was excellent. Of course, the Habs (Lang!) look like they're holding their sticks too tight, especially on the PP.

Eh, wasn't that bad... I'm staying away from the forums 'cause the armchair GMs are seriously annoying right now... Wee November~

Funny. Every single team in the division played a game - and they ALL lost (Boston in the skills competition). Effects of a full moon?

Biggest fanbase = biggest audience = biggest ad revenues = Leafs games at 7PM EST Saturday night every Saturday night.

It's a pretty simple formula.

Time to bust out the manflesh in the St. Louis Game Preview and Open Thread tomorrow. Or does that only work with Leaf games?

I hope it hasn't come to that yet! Have patience before going down that route.
