The Morning Skate for Monday, January 18th

Bullet points for what you missed while dreaming of winning a Golden Globe...
  • Well talk a bout a pathetic excuse for a lost weekend of lost chances. Habs blow their second straight game in which they took the lead, 6-2 to the Rangers. We suck. More later today if we can stomach it;
  • Ovie scores on a penalty shot (his first ever) to help the Caps beat the Flyers 5-3;
  • TMS hates the shootout as much as the next traditionalist (bring back the tie!!!) but even he was excited by the Hawks-Wings SO, which the Hawks won;
  • Habs Hall of Fame opens on Saturday and immediately blows a 2-goal lead.
Smiles, everyone! It's uh, January. Er, Monday. Er, J-E-T-S Jets!

There's an article on BGL in the NYTimes today where they say that "he is one of the most remarkable enforcers to have played the game". Shouldn't it have said "he WAS also one of the most remarkable..."? or more accurately "he is also one of the most flexible players who can hold a downward dog position for almost 7 minutes"?

Apparently the prediction is that we need to win 19 of our final 32 games to make the playoffs.

Everytime Halak has been given the chance to become # 1, he puts on a show like last night. How in f can a team blow a two goal lead against the Rangers?

And, Who Dat...

I was at the game last night. After a great first period, the defense disappeared and the whole game went to hell. Not fun wearing a Habs jersey in the upper bowl when they blow a 2 goal lead.

In the parity filled NHL (wow, I sound like Boone), what will happen is that at after the Habs suck for a few more games, they'll get really hot right before the Olympic break. At that point, we'll start to proclaim that they can make the playoffs and maybe they'll upset a team and be able to make the second round.

I think this team is done, although I'm not as pessimistic for future as others seem to be. I still, however, worry about this trend of fucking up our kids' development. None of them look decent outside of Andrei Kostitsyn, who had his own set of troubles earlier this year. I'm just really glad that Subban and Weber are spending the year in Hamilton instead of having their development fucked up in Montreal.

wv: preds: As in the Preds are a really good team. How about that Hornqvist?

@Anon - i was there too. I was contemplating taking off my habs gear at one point - not in fear of rangers fan - but out of disgust.

I also benched Dubinksy in my fantasy draft since I couldn't rightfully cheer for him against the habs. 2 goals, a shortie, a gwg, an assist, and +3. F.

I'm well beyond the point of realizing that we're not a contender this year, so I'm hoping for a top draft pick of course. Problem is, as KC pointed out, we ruin all our prospects. So what's the point of that either.
