It's Saturday Night, Let's Have a Delicious Beverage! Isles Game Preview and Open Thread

The aperitif - 7 PM Start at the Bell Centre. It's allegedly on CBC, but because the Leafs also play at 7 I'll believe it when I see it. Habs coming off being humbled by the Sens, BUT could be right back on top of the East tonight. Isles suck. 2-8 in their last 10, losers of 4 in a row. Habs look to sweep the season series agains the Isles, after only allowing one goal in each of the 3 other wins.

The foreign beer - check out The View from Section 317. Just good solid blogging.

Hot 'n spicy Bloody Ceasars - not too many really hot Habs. Little Tits has 2 points in the last 2 games. That's something I guess. Gui! looking okay. Well, that is if lawyers are to be believed.

Ice cold frosty ones - Ryder has one point in 7, Higgins one point in 4.

Flaming sambucas - Guerin has 3 points in his last 2 games.

Vodka in the freezer - Rick DiPietro is 1-5-0, 4.34, .852 in last 6 games. Enjoy that 15-year contract, Isles fans.

Just throw 3 things in a glass and call it a mixed cocktail - The ever-so patient Coach Carbo throws the following together as lines 2-4 tonight:

Gui!- Koivu - Ryder
Higgins - Grabs - Little Tits
Streit-Slowinski-Greek Lightning

Sure Coach, that'll work.

Please god no more tequila shots, they're making me sick - Breezer in the lineup.

A delicious Zlaty Bazant - Ha-lak! Ha-lak! gets the start. In his career, he is 7-0 at the Phone Booth.

Hangovers - Bégin still listed as day to day. Insert groin joke here. Isles have too many injuries to list.

5 beers in a bucket for $30 - I'm really running of Montreal strip clubs to review. How can that be possible? They're everywhere. Chateau du sexe is one of those clubs along Ste-Catherine Street you walk by all the time but never think about going in. I think I've been there, but it's so generic I can't recall any details.

So seriously, grab a drink and let's talk hockey.

Where's the lemon?? You can't do a proper body shot without the lemon.

About that, at Club Downtown, if you by a "6 beer in a bucket", you get a free " I support working moms" -or something like that- t-shirt.

But you pervs probably know already.

Guys:

Thanks for not giving me shit about my drug crazed posts last night. Hope I wasn't rude to anyone.

They (my posts that is) were kinda funny though, admit it.

Islanders tonight. Shit. We're fucked, Trottier, Bossy, Potvin, Gillies, Smith. Fuck!!

Oh. Sorry. Pulled a John McCain back in Nam in the cage thing for a second there. Trouble with the past present thing and all. Memento.

Cept I don't have that big shiny red Nukem button to push whan I go lobotomy. He will. Fuck.

Habs should come through. Otherwise we're all gonna be really bummed and have a shit Sunday. And I want a good Sunday. And so do you.

Cheers

Jeff

pretty much all of those drink you listed sound delicious right now, and it's only 4 in the afternoon. then again, I have been dealing with a decent amount of crap and it is my birthday tomorrow, and I'm part irish, so...yeah. I'll end up writing papers drunk again. But at least that'll make the time go by with more fun

It is one of these occasions when you can get mad drunk and not feel bad about it.

I'm talking about the habs losing to Ottawa, stupid. lol

Though I think a couple of readers NEVER feel bad about being drunk.

Rédaction said...

I'm off to the game! I want one of these free car flags.

A bit of history: do you know what Picasso's last words were ? (don't wiki it you jerks)

"Drink to me"

So there you go Pablo, here's to you !

Loser Domi said...

"But it sounded right in my head...STUPID HEAD!"

Young HF29 said...

damn 7 PM start. insufficient time to get drunk. anyone out there? not the sexiest matchup in the world i can understand if no one is watching

Young HF29 said...

didn't know about Ken Reardon.

Bryan Driscoll said...

totally watching.

at least i know we'll have a good shot at 2 pts plus a good mood for me

Young HF29 said...

tru dat Bryan. but i worry about some crazy 6-5 game we lose

I turned on CBC to see if I was getting Montreal or Toronto, and I saw... the Canucks? I know Daylight Savings Time messes with me, but it's not seven yet.

Anyways, I still have the internet, and in the meantime the Canucks during the RDS commercials are a big improvement over watching Toronto again. Here's hoping Kesler knocks Ribiero's head off.

Anonymous said...

RDS had about 2 seconds of silence for Reardon before cutting to commercial. Classyyyyy!

Young HF29 said...

@msevigny - i've got the Habs on CBC in Montreal, but it's like the 4th announce team. i'll take RDS any day

@Sonia - i noticed that. the length of time you get during the moment of silence is obviously directly proportional to your level of fame as a Hab

Young HF29 said...

finally something, a PP. i was falling asleep there

Yay! Leaf-free zone on Hockey Night!

They just updated the Vancouver - Dallas score as 3-0 Canucks. Where did they get all that scoring from all of a sudden?

Maybe Dallas is continuing their gutless-pig meltdown (according to a Fort-Worth reporter, no less) from the Detroit game. :)

Young HF29 said...

can i say something that hasn't been said around here in a while? Habs suck. we did nothing for 18 minutes against a farm team

Anonymous said...

Zzzzzzzzzzzzz...

Anonymous said...

Maybe Dallas is continuing their gutless-pig meltdown

You might say their are "Ribeiroing" as they get closer to the playoffs.

Baroque said...

At least Halak didn't suck.

They have 40 minutes to eliminate all memories of suckage.

Anonymous said...

It's 3-1 Vancouver at the intermission. Short story: Dallas started Holmqvist, Holmqvist sucks ass.

Too bad the Habs couldn't get one in the first, they had some good chances.

Young HF29 said...

@sonia - hehehe. but im a sucker for Ribs bashing

i think Don Cherry's St Paddy's day suit just gave me a seizure. my eyes!

Baroque said...

i think Don Cherry's St Paddy's day suit just gave me a seizure. my eyes!

I thought it was my remote. The volume lower button wasn't working!

I'm not sure why I snicker when Dallas plays poorly, but I do.

Anonymous said...

The suit was the least of it, he also claimed that Andrew Cogliano is the next Pavel Bure, that the Leafs refused to draft him for being Canadian, that stomping on people is okay and Pronger/Simon shouldn't have been suspended, and at the end I think he claimed to be a part of the Canadian military. Maybe if we threatened to show the Taliban pictures of Don's suits.

Bryan Driscoll said...

anyone notice that Gorges loses his helmet at least one a game?

Young HF29 said...

thank god i thought we'd never score again

Baroque said...

Maybe if we threatened to show the Taliban pictures of Don's suits.

Maybe not. Waterboarding is apparently not neccesarily torture, but that might be - especially that rainbow plaid number he has.

A goal on the power-play. That's a nice change. :)

Baroque said...

Question for Don Cherry:

If a good Canadian boy like Pronger stomped on the leg of the golden boy Sidney Crosby, should he get suspended?

I muted his chatter because I knew what I would hear.

Although the Cogliano comments are a bit of a surprise to me.

Anonymous said...

The Isles should be thankful for DiP, I thought for sure they'd get a second goal in that stretch.

Dallas just scored again. Turco's back in and I think the Canucks just realized they've already scored more goals in one period than they usually do in a game.

Young HF29 said...

all you guys listen to Cherry when he's on? i hit the mute within .1 seconds

Anonymous said...

I didn't have a choice, it's hard to find the remote when you've been struck blind.

Sometimes I like to pay attention during both intermissions and see who says the wackiest shit that week, Don or Al Strachan. At least Don can claim he's going senile.

Baroque said...

Turco is fine against anyone but Detroit.

I'd like to see Montreal manage a three-goal lead by the end of this period.

Baroque said...

Or just play defense once in a while. That would be good, too.

fezworth said...

Salut tous, just got in for the evening. Has anyone here ever tried to bake beef liver for a dog? How long should I bake it for? What temperature?

Halak looks good.

@bryan - do we call that a wardrobe malfunction?

Go hockey.

Young HF29 said...

@fezworth - my family did in fact cook liver for my dog when i was a kid, but i think it was fried, not baked. maybe dogliverrecipes.com?

oh jesus everything but put the puck in the net

Baroque said...

Never baked liver before.

One of my grandfathers liked liver and onions, and my grandmother would make that for him - cooked sliced beef liver in a little bit of melted butter in a pan over medium heat, for about three minutes I think, then flip it over and cook until slightly pink in the center.

I don't know about baking it, though. Sorry. :(

Anonymous said...

fezworth, I think you can feed it to him/her raw, I don't think dogs really care. I know one friend of mine just grinds it up with tripe and other miscellaneous beef parts and her dogs go nuts for it. I guess you could try the microwave if they won't eat it raw.

fezworth said...

I'm getting the impression that an oven at 325-375F for 45-60 minutes does the trick. It turns out that you can give 'em all the store-bought treats you like, but a beagle still prefers good old cow innards.

fezworth said...

Tut the idea is that I want to cut it into tiny little pieces for use as a training tool. While I expect that she'd prefer it raw, I'm not touching that slimy crap with my fingers any more than I have to. Thus the baking.

Baroque said...

You can also purchase freeze-dried liver treats from FosterSmith.

My parents and both sisters get those for their dogs, and they love them. Start dancing as soon as they smell the box coming in with the mail.

Young HF29 said...

this dog food conversation is way more interesting than this game. no, but seriously

and just when i type that. Le But!!

Baroque said...

Yay Kovalev!

Dave said...

All under control here?

Young HF29 said...

barely 33. Habs suck, but Isles suck worse i guess

Baroque said...

Halak is certainly playing better than chopped liver. :)

And Kovalev has had a strong game, too.

Dave said...

I know. Pretty dull, but the result is alright. The Kovy line is fun to watch. What the hell has gotten into him this year?

Dave said...

I miss the chopped liver from Brown Derby's.

Young HF29 said...

i will eat chopped liver from anwhere. on rye. it's my favourite Jewish thing along with the knish

Dave said...

That was an UBER Cote St-Luc Jew reference in case you goyim didn't know.

Dave said...

Latty!!!!!Gui!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Baroque said...

Nice shot.

Bad changes leave goalies exposed.

fezworth said...

@33 - having responsibility, perhaps? That seems to have changed his outlook, a wee bit

Young HF29 said...

RDS: Gui! "slowed down" to get that pass from Koivu. No, that was his normal speed. but a nice shot.

alright, 2 points. and the 40th win, can u fucking believe that?

Anonymous said...

It wasn't really brilliant hockey, and they could have put it away a lot earlier against a glorified AHL team, but still, it speaks well of the Habs that they can rebound from bad games like this. Even if you don't think they're playoff-ready just yet it's still an encouraging sign for the team's future.

Baroque said...

@fezworth - Forced him to grow up a little and be more mature as an example to the younger players?

Logical. And it's happened before.

I'm just always glad to see talented players fully utilize it. One of the descriptions I heard of Alexei Yashin was $10 million worth of talent, $5 million worth of motivation, which is why he never developed into the player he could have been.

Nice shutout win for Halak.

Dave said...

2 shutouts in a week. Not bad. Of course we were shutout ourselves in between there too.

Baroque said...

Goodnight, everybody!

And good luck with the baked liver.

GUI! GUI! GUI! Chris Msin ends regards too.
