"Ladies and gentlemen, on stage for your dancing pleasure, the Florida Panthers" - Game Preview and Open Thread

Waiting in line details - 7:30 PM start, Bell Centre, Montréal, QC. On TV: RDS and RDS-HD in French, TSN and TSN-HD in English. Montreal English radio CJAD, Montreal French radio CKAC, Panthers radio 790 the Ticket. Last season, Panthers owned the season series 3-1. In the 4 games, Habs scored 3 goals total. And the Panthers supposedly suck. Uh-oh.

Pay your cover charge to - Panthers Daily Puck. Number of Habs fan blogs? About a jillion. Number of Panthers fan blogs? One. Man that expansion was a great idea.

Hot sexy Habs to watch - Huet made the Canes game resepctable. He's about the only thing that's hot.

Hot sexy Panthers to watch - Olli Jokinen has two goals and two assists in the last two games, both Panthers wins, and tied Scott Mellanby for the all-time Panthers scoring lead (ah, such history). Panthers PP had 5 goals in those two games.

Skanky Habs to watch - name your poison. PK is floundering. No offence in the last game has led to a new second line, Gui? apparently being benched, and the coming of the apocalypse.

Skanky Panthers to watch - Tomas Vokoun is not the saviour he should have been, with a GAA above 3 and a save % below .900. Jay Bouwmeester has zero points and is -4 so far this year.

Post-game adult entertainment establishment - a favourite among the FHF is Club Downtown. Conveniently located a block or two from the Bell Centre, it has the best combination of good looking dancers and er, "fun" in the Downtown core. Ask for the two Romanian women special. Can get very crowded on the weekends, but otherwise pretty flawless. And show your Habs ticket stub and get a free beer!

UPDATE - it's official. Gui? has been benched. Even more updates - Bégin will join him in the press box, and Garth Murray will see action. God help us.

Watching the game? At the game? Listening? Imagining the game in your head? Let's hear your dirty, dirty thoughts in the comments.

Love to be watching the game tonight everyone but, you know, I've got a throne speech to listen to.

Seriously, I will be at Hurleys for the pre-game excitement and probably the first period. Keep the faith. Go Garth Murray!

Hopefully Murray will make up for Begin's absence tonight (although I’m not a big fan of #22).

Expect a big game from everyone tonight – time to shut the door on all the negative talk out there. 5 of 8 points so far this year is not all bad.

We could be bemoaning our $29m defenceman putting the puck in his own net with 3.7 seconds left in OT.

Are those boobs real?

Who cares about Garth Murray and his 9 minutes. I'm happy to see Grabovski back in...

Still think Lapierre has to be up and D7 benched.

If Garth Murray gets 9 minutes tonight, we are well and truly screwed.

And of course they're not real. Unless that photo was taken in a NASA zero gravity chamber.

Good Lord, the game is on TSN. And not blacked out in Toronto. Goodbye, CJAD radio broadcast, HELLO WATCHING THE GAME LIVE! What a novel concept.

Go to bed tonight and thank whatever God you believe in if you are outside the "Toronto" viewing area, my friends.

Well, that's just typical. Of course, the day I have to stay at work a wee bit later, and it's on tsn. It's only 5:30 in Cowtown, and I'm still at work for well.. enough time to NOT be able to watch on TSN HD. Boo urns, I say. CJAD, here I come. [sigh]

So why exactly is Bégin out for Garth Murray again?

Damion said...

go habs! and thanks to centre-ice for giving me the TSN feed as opposed to the local FLA outfit. sidebar: nasa has secretly installed some 0-grav machines in certain establishments...

Damion, you're killing me. Was Kovy's goal nice?

Habsfan10 said...

Sick move by Kovalev for that goal.

TSN has stated "The Habs are winless at home" at least a half dozen times ... THEY'VE ONLY PLAYED AT HOME ONCE, YOU ASSHATS.

15 shots, no penalties. Nice.

End of the first, and it looks like the Habs are determined to defeat one of their nemeses on home ice this week - for some reason the Cats owned MTL last year.

Great hit by Komo om Horton, knocked him around klike a rag doll.

Kovalev really can stick handle in a phone booth. No one else on teh team scores that goal.

So I heard Grabby was playing tonight. Maybe he makes it out for teh second.

After hours of intense concentration, I've decided I don't care if they are real or not....

Kovy's goal: signature.
habs lack of penalties: sweet.
analysis from TSN, a "gemini" (token) winning b'cast: ummm.... useless? habsfan10 has it right, only second game at home does not make the statement "winless at home" probative of anything relevant. also, their ridiculous comment about Kovy teaching Pleks... whatever... he was simply detailing directions to post-game entertainment.
although, this is way better than listening to the CBC where everyone keeps rooting for the Laffs, even when they're calling a game the Laffs aren't playing in.

bah... Waiting for the bus, I'm reduced to stealing someone's wi-fi and reading this page for updates... Keep the analysis coming everyone!

TSN: "Zednik in the box for slashing. The DNA is all over the ice." The "DNA" ? He knocked Higgins' stick out of his hands... what DNA? maple? pine? jebus.

Huet made a nice save off of Zednik.

HFF33 aka Panger said...

Poor Zednik, two penalties and robbed by Huet. Kyle MacLaren owes him a career.

The Greek Lightening-Grabs-Big Tits line is looking sweet. Then again, all the lines are looking good right now. They have to put another one on the board soon, though, cause the Cats are going to score a lucky one....

HFF33 aka Panger said...

Oh, and Glenn Healy is a moron. Damien, you should know this by now.

Hey everyone!!!

Just got home from Hurleys. Managed to watch the game out of one eye while talking to my friend using the other eye. Not bad at all.

totally missed the goal though. Sounds like it was great!

Young HF29 said...

Young HF29 said...

Ta. Bar. NAC.

Why did Breezer go for the body instead of the puck in trying to clear? Why did the crowd do what I always hate about the Montreal crowd and start chanting with 1m30 in 1 goal game potential shutout?!

my wife is now asking me why i'm posting to a site with strippers on it.

i told her it's actually a nasa sponsored science experiment.

Young HF29 said...

Damion it's an in depth study of the effect of weightlessness on breasts and hockey fans. very important research

Young HF29 said...

i hate shootouts. i need a drink

Young HF29 said...

ooh two blond cuties in Habs T shirts cheering a Huet save. helloooo!

Young HF29 said...

fuck to the power of 10

Young HF29 said...

sorry it's all my fault for leaving the bar while we were up 1-0. I jinxed it

sounds like Vokoun stole one. again, my fault for labelling him a skanky Panther to watch in the preview. Jinxed that, too

thoughts? at least we played well

You just knew we were going to blow this one...one goal on how many shots???

I'm too pissed to say anything else...

Habsfan10 said...

There are not enough expletives on this planet for me to express how fucking much I hate this team right now. We're five games into the season and I am fucking sick of this shit. The sad part is, it's not the kids messing up, which I could live with. They should have fucking run that shit Panthers team out of the rink, Vokoun or not. 35 shots and 34 of them were straight into his fucking pads ... if Huet doesn't make three brilliant stops, these fuckheads don't even get to overtime. Jesus Fucking Christ.

kevincrumbs said...

GOD FUCKING DAMMIT!

On one hand, I am annoyed that we somehow blew yet another lead in the third period and then proceeded to lose it in the shootout.

However, I take solace in the fact that this is just one of those games, that Vokoun robbed us, that we outshot and outplayed them and under normal circumstances would win. This game is a positive for the Habbies, but still...

Fuck Vokoun.

Unfortunately, playing well doesn't get us points in the standings. And yes, its only 5 games into the season but its seems to be a continuation of the BS we had to deal with last year. 5 games in and we have pissed away 2 points we should have had (last Saturday and tonight)

No excuse tonight - hot goalie of not, put the puck in the net - and how about a bit more creativity in the shootout????

And Komi's penalty was stupid- against Zednik of all people!!!
