The Game Day Skate for Thursday, February 19th

Bullet points for what you missed while dreaming of the President coming to visit...
  • Even though the Habs lost, that might have been the beginning of something better? Of course we were watching Lost, but by all accounts the Habs played a full game of hockey last night, only to lose in the SO. Hey, you know who might have helped in the shootout? Kovy. We're just saying. Oh and Ovie had some miracle goal. More later no doubt;
  • Rangers stopped their own bleeding with a win over the Isles;
  • The Columbus Blue Jackets are hot baby! Their win over the Blues put them in 5th in the West and 6 games over .500 for the first time in their history. Woohoo! This three sentence bullet points fulfills our West quota for the week.
Pensburgh tonight. Let's hope the effort continues.

Anybody else notice that Ovie's goal was a result of a brutal outlet pass (read miss) by Komisarek to a tired Hamrlik?

Overall the team was much improved. DOOM! though still looks terrible. I don't think he hit anybody all night.

Markov played better (3 assists and all). Still a few brain farts in the d-zone, but much better overall.

The TSN panel all thought sitting Kovy was a good move (except Keith Jones, but he' know...Keith Jones). As much as I'm not a big fan of Dreger, it was cool that he had actual contact with Kovy to get his side of the story.

Anywho, a point and a big game tonight.

Was Boullion a forward last night? Every time I flipped on the game, he was rushing the puck up the ice and was deep in the offensive zone.

edit to my 1st post: You know, assuming it was actually Kovy he was in contact with.

@Tom: No he was a D. He was far from our worse defenseman last night *cough Komisarek *cough Markov (even with the points)

Re: Komi's outlet pass...

On RDS, Benoit! was actually carping right from the moment Komisarek's pass went behind Hamrlik. And Pierre was right there with him. It's only on the second replay that they started paying attention to Ovechkin's play.

I'm with them on this one: it was a brutal pass, sure. But how many guys in the NHL can singlehandedly transform that into a goal? I mean, he was 100feets from the goal and Chipchura took him down midway.

Ovechkin is an absolute beast. Never saw anything like him since the young Vlad Guerrero. Not like those poor souls in Was ever had a chance to have the two of them all at once. That's what happens when you do business with MLB.

But I disgress...
