The Morning Skate for Monday, November 16th

Bullet points for what you missed while having nightmares of going for it on 4th down and not making it...
We got a feeling it's going to be another day of recriminations around here.

Holy crap. I'm sexist!

Kate said...

I like a little bit of hockey with my humor. This blog suits me perfectly.

Habsfan10 said...

Wait a minute ... did he just say we're not informative? I don't know many blogs that teach the finer points of marinating moose meat while discussing hockey. That's quality info.

WF: psionist. Methinks Fagstein is part of a psionest conspiracy against blogs.

moeman said...

Habs are bouleCHite.

For Moey, make a basic béCHamel, add some red or white wine and melt in as much blue CHeese as your Dr. allows. A bit of pepper but no salt as the CHeese usually packs enough sodium. This sauce is also great on pasta (with some fresh herbs and black olives).

lawyergirl77 said...

Wow - that was the first time I had clicked over to Fagstein's blog in a while.

(Stifles derogatory comment about his condescending drivel because he said something nice about my boys and GG11)
(Whoops... missed that one comment. My bad.)

Kate said...

@moeman, you're a star, I'm going to give it a try. Thanks.

GoldenGirl11 said...

@LG
Which comment are you referring to? And btw, don't think that you and Moey are off the hook. I'm not taking the female sexist fall alone.

bea.habs.fan said...

personnaly this is ALWAYS my first stop for Habs news.
If I wanted boring journalism, I'd get the Gazette.

My motto is " If you can't make me laugh, you're not worth my time"

WV: ennill - FHF ennillates the competition

lawyergirl77 said...

GG11 - I've told you many times that my personal motto is: "If you can't say anything nice... come sit next to me!"

You'll never take the fall alone, honey!

Kate said...

GG11,

I've been called worse by better, they can bring it on, no problem.

Unknown said...

Hey, I also got mentioned in that jive-ass blog. What validation! Gonna die happy. I'm kinda disappointed he didn't cite my sexism, which makes GG look like Betty Friedan .... umm, no, she isn't that skanky. Gloria Steinem ... yeah, that's better.

Unknown said...

Any of you ever notice that Zombie-Tits slightly resembles Simple Jack ?

savardwalsh said...

not to be a debbie downer, but after tuesday, our next opponents are: washington, detroit, columbus, pittsburgh, and washington again. come to think of it, december's not much better. look, i'm sorry, i shouldn't have brought it up.

Young HF29 said...

@Gate - well, we can't play much worse can we? maybe we'll rise to the level of our opponents!

lawyergirl77 said...

29 - holy shit! Are you the one who thiefed my optimism pills?? Give 'em back, dammit!!!

Oh and @Michael - with colleagues like that... (it isn't the first time you've been mentioned)

GoldenGirl11 said...

@10
psionist. Very enjoyable.

@Michael
Betty Friedan looks freakishly like she could've been Bea Arthur's long lost evil twin. I like the Gloria Steinam reference much more. Sexist AND skanky. I like that.

@parents of GG
Fagstein told me personally that I owe you an apology so on that note I apologize for keeping you from this blog for so long. Look at us! Yup little HF29 and me getting all sexist. Woo hoo!!

moeman said...

Speaking of all things creamy and saucy, Moey, I forgot to mention that you can omit the milk for the red wine version (and substitute with a demi-glace or broth).

lawyergirl77 said...

@moe - crap, now I'm starvulating!! (sounds nummy!)

I'm heading to the movie premiere at the Bell Centre tonight. Meh, $16 for a movie: not egregious anymore.

Any other suckers, er, fans going too?

WV: (OMG TOO PERFECT) - "facked". Too many uses to limit myself to just one: What kind of facked up team is this? BG really facked up his 5 year plan? Our defence is facked. etc. etc. lather, rinse, repeat.

moeman said...

@lg77, enjoy the Steamés.

~~~
Also facked is the marble-mouthed ckac loud trap jc lajoie. Seems this POS is not only an idiot but also a liar and a plagiarist.
Not sure how many of the FHFers listen to Corus' ckac or watch vtélé's attaqueà5 but this lajoie clown is a barrel scrapper sans pareil and for context ckac regularly allows réjean tremblay to spew his xenophobic Bob Gainey hate, daily.
lawyergirl77 said...
@moe - they don't sell steamés at the Centre Bell. Only these pseudo grilled dogs that I call "hotdog paninis".
IMHO, the absence of steamés and poutine at the Centre Bell is just plain wrong.
And I had read about the CKAC plaigiat. Stay classy, boys. *sarcastic golf clap* I'm amazed that they have enough brain power to draw air into their lungs.
moeman said...
Enjoy the flic lg77, I hear there's lotsa Saku scenes. Bring your hankies.
Also, nice shot at the ckac mouthbreathers.
GoldenGirl11 said...
@LG
...and the organ and hava nagilla and fedoras and the Stanley cup and work ethic and we had to walk all the way from CSL up to our arm pits in snow (ok, Jews didn't walk from CSL but we did walk from the car that dropped us off in front of the forum as opposed to the indoor parking lot)....
bea.habs.fan said...
the Forum = my first taste of live hockey.
the day I fell hook, line and sinker.
ladies - if we dwell too much on thepast, we're going to start sounding like laffs fans (minus 26 years).
we can't possibly sink that low??
Kate said...
@moeman,
I owe you one. This is dead easy.
2-3 lbs pork shoulder
1 bottle beer
1/2 cup BBQ sauce
1 tin mushroom soup
Whisk together beer, sauce, soup in slow cooker. Add pork, simmer on low for 6-7 hours, add chopped (fresh) mushrooms 1/2 before serving.
Kate said...
That's 1/2 hour before serving. Will I ever post without a type-o?
*Sigh*.
moeman said...
I took in about a dozen Montreal Forum Habs games, mostly in the SRO sections (probably a better venue than some mid level seats). Loved the Steamés and I miss the gorgeous Asian usherette, oft seen on Radio-Canada broadcasts).
(Why does it alwayts come back to the ladies? Its like they have a hold on us or something ...)
moeman said...
@Moey, merci. Nothing better than pork and BeerBQ sauce. I have 3 (of 6) Boréal Noire left to cook with. I drank one, not worth it and used 2 in my latest batch of 6 bean chili (which BTW is flavoured with a dollop of peanut butter, a tablespoon of instant coffee, a chunk of 75% dark chocolate and a dash of cinnamon).
lawyergirl77 said...
I was at the Forum on June 1993.
It has only recently been topped as the best day in my life by my wedding day a few months ago.
LOVED the Forum. Miss it so. I do the whole Ptuh thing whenever I set foot in the monstrosity that now occupies that space.
GoldenGirl11 said...
@Moe and Moey
Sure NOW you post these recipes after the bar mitzvah.
moeman said...
Whilst here, another delish tip is too use that tin of mushroom soup when making your next scalloped potatoes dish.
lawyergirl77 said...
Moey - OMG that sounds amazing.
Moe - OMG that sounds amazing too!!!
Me hungy. /pathetic voice
In all seriousness, we should really organize a 4HF potluck for a game at some point, if only just because we would be able to swear at the teevee together in some kind of collective therapy session.
lawyergirl77 said...
Doh - my second-to-last post should read June 9th, 1993.
*sigh*
I need an editor.
moeman said...
What was done to the Forum is a sacrilege. The Ghosts must still be angry.
Pgagnon17 said...
In the grand realm of tits and the Habs, Boone called attention to this game review.
I stared at her face throughout the whole thing. I swear.
Kate said...
@moeman,
Mushroom soup rules, I also use it for a couple of layers in my lasagna.
@LG,
Potluck - great idea, with enough booze and food to ease the pain of having to watch the Habs.
Pgagnon17 said...
Oops. Wrong link. This is the right one.
GoldenGirl11 said...
@LG
June 9, 1993. BEST. DAY. OF. MY. LIFE. (including wedding and possibly birth of all 4 kids especially number 2 whose head is the size now that it was when he was born which... never mind). And $15 standing room tickets to see the Islanders lose. No vertigo, great view and a blast.
Kate said...
@GG11,
True confession, the last time we went to a bar mitzvah I was tempted to smuggle butter in my purse for all the lovely bread. I blame my British background.
moeman said...
@Moey, "I blame my British background", for the butter or the smuggling? If its the butter, please tell me you make amazing shortbread cookies (unless of course you smuggle them, in your purse).
WV = valliz, as in the Habs season so far should be named Valliz of the Dulls.
Yes, fellow and feline FHFers try the veal Steamés.
GoldenGirl11 said...
@Moey
Everyone does. Something about coffee creamer that could also be a hot dog that's just so unappealing.
Kate said...
moeman,
It's the butter. My Dad made the most amazing shortbread ever. He passed away several years ago and I never found the recipe. Store bought has never come close, nor anyone else's.
moeman said...
@Moey, the thing about homemade cookies is the amount of love in the recipe. You can taste it.
Young HF29 said...
@moey and moe -
reminds me of a story. my grandma was famous for all sorts of recipes. as she neared the end, the family worked on getting all her recipes and secrets. she was famous for her chocolate chip cookies (among many others). we asked for the recipe, and she said flatly, "it's just the recipe on the back of the Chipits package!" we were floored. of course, making them never tasted the same. it IS the love.
Kate said...
HF29 & moeman,
So true.
lawyergirl77 said...
Okay, so I just saw the moovie at the Bell Centre...
... and I come back here to read about cookies baked with love and I start sniffling again!
Curse you all! I was looking for the snark!!!
Insta-review: Go see the movie. Moey, bring a box of kleenex. Trust me. It's totally schmaltzy, a work of pure saccharine fiction. And this totally unapologetic cheeseheart loved every minute. So there. Nyah.
GoldenGirl11 said...
@LG
Saku make you bawl?
lawyergirl77 said...
GG11 - like the pathetic little girl I am. Saw him on the screen in the Habs jersey for the first time, started sniffling. And then his scenes got me REALLY going.
I won't spoil it.
Except to say that he did all of his dialogue in FRENCH.
Which made me sniffle even more.
(The Douche and Higgy were also in the scene. I chose to ignore their presence.)
GoldenGirl11 said...
@LG
I'm farklempt just thinking about it. Really.
lawyergirl77 said...
GG11 - seriously, me too. The movie represents the alternate universe that I wish we had, hockey-wise.
Except for The Douche and Higgy. They can go fuck themselves.
(Sakuuuuuuuuuuuuuu... sniff)
One cool gesture - all of the current Habs were sitting in section 207 to watch the movie. With their girlfriends.
Revelation #1 of the night: Yo, Halak's girlfriend is fuckin' HOT! How the hell did he land that??
Revelation #2: Markov is actually a gigantic ham. You should have seen him waving to the crowd when they showed him on the screen. Priceless.
GoldenGirl11 said...
@LG
My friend is Halak's computer geek. He said she's nice too. God I hate that. Coaches there too?
lawyergirl77 said...
Yup, but I didn't see them sitting with the players... But they might have been - it was tough to see. Naturally, I was sitting 10 sections down. Grrrrr...
No effin' way. I refuse to believe that she is that hot AND nice. The Universe wouldn't punish the rest of us that way.
GoldenGirl11 said...
You're right. I was confusing her with the homely girl next door to Halak. His girlfriend was a total bitch.
lawyergirl77 said...
aaah... that's better. All's right with the world now.
(All kidding aside, good for Halak that he's got a nice hottie. Kid deserves it.)
Topic? I miss my Saku. *sniffle*
