Carey and Chips to be Fed to Penguins

According to reports, Coach Carbo has announced that Franchise Saviour (TM) Carey Price and Franchise Captain in Waiting (TM) and Panger's Boy Kyle Chipchura will both make their NHL debuts on Wednesday in Pittsburgh against Crosby, Malkin, Staal, and the rest of Oilers 2.1 (TM). Apparently Chips will replace Pleks between Begin and El Dandy so Pleks can replace Grabs on the Dance à Dix Line.

I can already hear the gnashing of teeth from fickle fans, worried that Sid the Kid and the rest of his high-flying Penguins will bomb poor Price back to the Stone Age and destroy, in order:

1) His confidence.

2) The Habs season, after their uber-rookie gets whacked.

3) The franchise for the next ten years, as the Franchise Saviour (TM) is exposed as a paper lion. (Ignore the excellent goaltending depth in the system and the host of other prospects ... the sky is falling!)

Please. Sid the Kid is the best player in the league and the Pens are exciting to watch, but this isn't exactly like throwing Price into the Spectrum in 1974 with Kate Smith doing the anthem and the Flyers and their fans baying for blood. It's the PENGUINS, a team the Habs have owned forever, and they play in the IGLOO, which might as well be a library for all the menace it's denizens muster. What Carbo has done is what coaches have done forever; start the highly-touted rookie on the road against a tough opponent. If the rookie loses badly, play the "it's to be expected" card. If the rookie loses but plays brilliantly, the "future is bright" card comes out. If the rookie wins it's a total windfall. Couple that with the fact that Huet did not look great on Saturday and Grabovski has looked lost, and I don't have any problems. Price is a talented kid and he seems totally unflappable. He's a winner, he's ready, and he's not going to have Breezer in front of him.

Because, in other FANTASTIC NEWS, Breezer will be a healthy scratch in favour of Josh Gorges, although it could have been Josh Groban for all I care. (Cue Breezer apologists with "hey, he hasn't been that bad" defence in 3 ... 2 ... 1 ... here's the thing: Breezer will always do something Breezer-like, and I hate having that sword of Damocles hanging over the team. My 70 year old Dad's heart doesn't need the abuse of watching games while wondering when the Breezer will hand it away. Breezer should have never come back, and needs to go. Now. I will beat this into the ground until someone gets him off the payroll for good.)

So, Price and Chips and Gorges take their bows, Breezer takes his hopefully-soon-to-be permanent seat in the press box, and Pleks takes a place between Kovy and Big Tits (I don't know what "Pleksing" is, but Kovy-Pleks-Tits still sounds dirty, so Dance à Dix Line stays). Works for me. Will it work for Les Canadiens? Let us know in the comments.

Yes! Chips!

I was less excited about the Price angle because of the Pens offence, but 10's logical reasoning has soothed my soul. Thanks 10!

Couldn't agree more with the moves or your take, HF10.

I'm so excited that My Boy Chips starts his career Wednesday. I'm telling you, he's our own homegrown Trevor Linden.

And if you've never been Pleksed, you don't know what you're missing...

the attractive woman walking the street in the short skirt and 5 inch heels said a pleksing would be $150

Lets go Gorges, don’t give Carbonneau any excuses to take you out of the line up for Saturday, I don’t want to see anymore of Breezer … Went to f***ing TO on Saturday and had a few good moments, habs leading 3-1, Leafs fan crying over power play vows and Kilger nailing Breezer (just too bad it didn’t put him on the forever IR). Still went home a shame and had to down a bottle of Jack to feel a little better, I couldn’t remember much on Sunday morning.

The Dance à Dix line is the best line name ever, of course, but I'm a bit worried that it will prove to be a bit too apt, if you know what I mean:
The look great, have all the right moves, do all kinds of things to get you really, um, excited, and in the end...
You don't score.

Here's hoping Pleksing involves lots of scoring.

What is with all this worrying about Carey Price??? This kid has something special and I doubt one bad outing in his debut performance will alter his course of becoming our #1. Its like everyone has become his mother for C- sakes!

Try starting the '71 Cup final against the mighty Bruins with a lanky, unknown college goalie in net. Now that had the potential to load your pants far worse than anything that will happen tomorrow night.

Everyone has to lighten up - Price's future will unfold as it should. and wouldn't be nice to smoke Sid the Kid in his first game?

It would make up for the debacle on saturday...

Correction: I meant the '71 playoffs against the B's. The North Stars and Hawks were next. I'm sure Jim Pappin is still shaking his head...

Am I the only one who is confused with hailing a 19-year old goalie "The Future"?

Full disclosure: I didn't see either the WJC or the Bulldogs Calder run.

At the WJC, wasn't Carey playing behind what was essentially the best team at the tournament, bar-none? Weren't the Bulldogs one of the better teams in the AHL even *without* him?

I'm more than a little confused. Does he have a stamp, or sticker on him proclaiming: "Future Cup-winner"? Does he have an aura about him, the kind that brightens the lives of all who see it?

Don't get me wrong. I want him to be the second coming of Patrick Roy (minus the psychosis & trading to Colorado). I just don't quite understand why everyone just assumes he will be, without reservation. Please explain mes amis, je ne comprend pas!

Fezworth - your point is well taken that Price hasn't proven anything in thr NHL yet (and as I kep repeating, he is only 20 FREAKIN years old) and there are always Daigle-like possibilities with prospects. But the Bulldogs were a medicore team last season for most of the year. And while Price did play on one of the best teams in the WJC, Canada was not a prohibitive favorite like i 2005 when Sens prospect Jeff Glass was guarding the cage. Plus, if you had seen that American 5 on 3 power play where Price calmly stopped shot after shot, casually deflecting pucks labeled "top corner" over the glass with his blocker you'd be a believer too!

I'm still on the what the fuck to do with Carey Price. I know that he's a pretty kid bit you know, I don't really know what to do with him. I think he'll be able to do great but I don't like the concept of handing everything to him on the silver plate. What happened to having to earn it? What happened to giving him the tough end of the stick, heat of the moent, you play you die. If he fails once, it'll be "oh he's young - he's new". If he fails twice, thrice, fucking three million, it'll be "he still has plenty to go". We're already making excuses for short term failure for Price. Which we shouldn't be doing for the sake of I WANT THE FUCKING HABS TO WIN DAMN IT.

matt d - RE: Danse à 10: well played, sir! Looks like the name will be apt in more ways than one...

I totally agree with your take on the decision, HF10. Especially with the bits about Breezer. My problem with him is that he's either solid (with occasional flashes of brilliance) or he's an absolute donkey on skates and the fans start braying at him accordingly. Heck, I booed him harder than fucking Theo last year at the Avs game... And HE didn't mess around with Paris "the clap" Hilton while his premature baby daughter was on life support at the JGH!!!!!

[/rant]

But yay for the fact that Chips is going to crack the lineup! I don't think that Grabby has looked that lost, but I think that out of all of the forwards, he's the one who deserves a seat next to Breezer the most...

Wow. This post proved so popular, I was smelling The Pensblog and many knotted knickers. Good stuff gentlemen.

Pittsburgh is a paper tiger. Hit 'em often enough, hard enough, and they go home crying to their mommies. In short, the plan should be to punch them in the mouth and steal their fucking lunch money. And with Breezer being, er...reassigned, it looks like Carbo already knows that.

Price will be fine. Ain't nothing the Pens can throw at him that will compare to the WJC shootout. So, still a big "NO" on that Reds trade, eh? Just asking.

fezworth...your question is legitimate. Unfortunate you have not seen Price play.

I see 2 reasons for all the hype:

1) He displays all the fundamentals to be a great goalie; his NHL experience will only help him perfect these skills. As TSN reports (Yes, the Toronto Sports Network):a big, athletic, puck-handling goalie with grace under pressure and the ability to instill confidence in his teammates

2) This is the first Habs draft pick since Lafleur that has the potential to be a franchise player. Its been a long time coming...

Yes, he could be a bust like any rookie phenom but highly unlikely given his rise to the NHL.

Panger, forum, cojones, thank you. Your words have given me solace. I'm actually incredibly excited about tomorrow now. Bring on the flightless birds!
