- 12 years, $64 mill for Roberto Luongo. I'm sure those small annual figures in the last couple of years won't be investigated;
- In case you missed it in the comments yesterday, Bertrand Raymond responds to his critics;
- Phoenix bankruptcy court drags on. We're getting annoyed. If there's one thing we can learn from all this, it's that rich people are petulant assholes;
- SLC's hatred of the Leafs is epic. You wonder why he hates Leafs Nation? Comments like this on his post: "Leafs will go on to win the Stanley cup this year. GO LEAFS GO. LEAFS ARE TEAM CANADA OF THE NHL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

I'd comment on SLC's post - but I'm afraid that if I have it on my screen for too long, the intensity of the hatred will melt my laptop. Holy shit and fucking wow.
Need motivational inspiration?
Zen Habits? Nope.
David Allen's GTD? Nope.
xkcd? Nope.
The smiting SLC? Oh yeah!
~~~
WV = behel, as in behel will freeze over before the leaf wins the Cup, ever.
That is one fucking classic ass ripping of the Fuck Leafs by SLC if i ever read one.
Bertrand Raymond that fucked up separatist ass wipe, has been, never was, couldn't write his way out of Jacques Parizeau's wet paper alcho bag nor could he make one legitimate commentary on a hockey team he actually knows nothing about...it must be frustrating to have no in when you pretend to be in the know! He is a washed up, Klingon, skid mark, opinionated 10 second sound bite.
As for Bettman and those ash on the lapel, scotch drinking, private club, mother fucking owners behind the debacle (also known as the Coyotes) fuck them! It would be nice if there was actually a fucking Judge in the US that could understand hockey and for that matter the principle of fairness (to the creditors) and call a spade a fucking spade not a shovel, and tell those fuck face assholes just how fucking absurd their whole structure and mindset is and rule against those fucks and that midget. Then give the team to RIM Balls and let him move them to Hamilton so we can watch the Maple Fucks piss all over themselves and that shriveled penis Bettman.
Ok summer decides to show up on September 01, What the FUCK is up with that? My summer vacation is over (not that i had one cause there was no fucking summer) and i just had to vent. Can we please start the season like right NOW!
That's a great rant by SLC.
Speaking of dumb ex-Leafs, did anyone catch Nick Kypreos on Sportsnet discussing the Phoenix bankruptcy trial last night?
Hilarious!
@ boob - no i didn't. care to give the coles notes version? i love a good "kypreos is an idiot" story.
That was not a great rant by SLC. It was a little sad. Ottawa is sad.
I love this blog. Partly b/c there are no bogus, 12-year-old rants like that one over here.
YOU GUYS DON'T EVER CHANGE!!!1
And remember: the Leafs are better than the Habs. And the Sens.
I love you all.
@eyebleaf
Which Leaf player are you most excited about this year?
@ eyebeleaf:
Good Lord, what kind of twelve year olds do you know? If I met a twelve-year old with that kind of filthy mouth I'd be amazed. Disturbed, but amazed.
The sad part of a rant like that (or some of the ones we've had on here) is it brings out the worst in the targeted fanbase, not the merely misguided heathens like you and PPP. You guys are like Lutherans ... passionate, often well-spoken, but ultimately going to hell for your misguided beliefs (and Beleafs).
@ Boob: It's hard to pick one. I'm excited about Grabbo. The Leafs don't have a #1 centre, I'm excited to see if he can be that guy. I'm excited to see Bozak, and whether Tlusty is ready to make the jump. I'm excited to see Kabby and Toskala return to form, and to see whether Gustavsson is worthy of all the hype. I'm also excited to see Komisarek. It should be an interesting season.
@ HF10: You're absolutely right; that type of rant is just asking for the other 12-year-olds to come out and spew hatred. It's worth nobody's time, and adds nothing to the discussion. That's the beauty of this site: smart hockey talk, and hot chicks. Life's perfect balance. It's why us misguided heathens end up here on a regular basis, and subscribe to a Habs blog.
@eyebleaf
Sorry to burst your bubble, but none of the players you mention are any good. Are you really excited about seeing Komi block shots? Because that is all he can do.
You don't have a number one centre? You don't have a number one anything. You barely have a number four anything. And I say this as someone who doesn't hate the Leafs. I'd cheer for you over Boston or Philly.
What bothers me is Leafs management. They are playing you guys (and most of Canada via the CBC) for suckers. They know they can put out any product on the ice and you will all watch. And they are blocking the Hamilton move, which would actually make it more interesting for their own fans.
That tired old saw? Why not write 'Laffs' to make it completely cliche?
I love how you dismissed out of hand:
- the most sought after NCAA forward
- the most sought after goalie
- a player that was a ppg in the AHL last year
- a defenceman that outside of last season's injury riddled campaign has posted .75ppg over his career
- a forward that would have been I think 5th in scoring for the Habs last year and in the top 3 based on your roster this year
- and a former object of affection
I understand why you'd do it being a Habs fan and all but let's at least let some guys play before passing judgment about whether the Leafs have a number 2 or 3 anything. Especially when your team basically replaced over half it's team because it wasn't good enough.
Oh, and that Bertrand guy is a huge twat.
@ PPP:
That's enough out of you, Luther!
- the most sought after NCAA forward
the most sought after UNSIGNED NCAA forward.
- the most sought after goalie
the most sought after UNDRAFTED goalie.
- a player that was a ppg in the AHL last year
Unimpressed.
- a defenceman that outside of last season's injury riddled campaign has posted .75ppg over his career
and who is not getting any younger..
- a forward that would have been I think 5th in scoring for the Habs last year
5th on the Habs? But remember I said you don't have a top four player. Doesn't that prove it?
- and a former object of affection
Who? Not Komi or Grabbo. They were never particularly liked.
Anyway, you can't seriously think your team is a playoff contender. I'm not taunting here. Just stating objective facts.
@ Boob: You're wrong bro. I have a gambling problem. Would you like to make a wager re: the Leafs?
@ Boob: The Leafs indeed are making the playoffs.
As for your quip about Gustavsson being undrafted, it certainly didn't work out for Jonas Hiller in Anaheim eh? And look who brought him over from Europe...oh, yes, Brian Burke.
@ Boob:
C'mon now. Komisarek was very, very well-liked around these parts. We hate that motherfucking traitorous bastard now, but when he was on his game, Habs fans loved him. Christ, he made the fucking all-star starting lineup ... you're telling me Montreal didn't like him?
I know I shoud know better but WTF, here goes:
- NCAA forward! Listen to yourself! Rhino came out of Collge with a bunch of hypoe, too.
2. Most sought after undrafted goalie. Remember the Fabian Brunnstrum hype?
3. OK, Tlusty has some upside. (But I'd rather have Max Pack.)
4. Kaberle...ok.
5.Fuck Grabs. We didn't like him after he pulled that stunt on the plane ride homwe from the Left Coast while he was still a Hab. 5. 6. Komo has some good qualities (partly why we're so upset he left), but offense is not one of them.
You're absoluetly right about Bertrand. HEE-YUGE twat.
Spot the fallacy:
Hiller was undrafted. He turned out very good.
Gustavvson was undrafted.
...
Was Komi as well liked as Koivu, Kovy, Markov, Price, Laraque, The Kostitsyns?
I even saw more Higgins and Tanguay t-shirts at the Bell Ctr than Komis last year.
I just don't think shot blocking is what Habs fans are looking for.
Must be a chill in the air. This is the most entertaining the comments have been in a while.
This is getting juicy!
For every undrafted whiz kid there are a hundred undrafted kids people take a flyer on that don't work out, no?
And I always loved Komi, but now instead of shying away in the corner in embarrassment after he gets his ass handed to him by Lucic, I will be grinning. Silent, but still grinning.
If Milan makes the Olympic team I will eat my own shit.
I lived in TO during the Brophy years. You were really dire then, but at least you had a few good players: Damphousse, Olczyk, Clark, Leeman, Iafrate, Courtnall.
Now you're dire and there isn't a player worth watching. Yet the Toronto Broadcasting Corp will still push this inferior product down all of Canada's throat, all winter long.
If Milan makes the team I will support Russia or Finland.
The best thing that could happen for Leafs fans is a competitive team in Hamilton. It's not a coincidence that the Habs have been a consistently poorer team since the Nords pulled up stakes.
Good, entertaining comments. HIO makes me wanna hurl. "Who do you think should be captain" blah blah blah it's been going on for weeks. Who gives a fuck? Jesus F. Christ, those posters need to get a life.
@Boob: I'd say Komi was as well liked as all of those but Koivu. I mean, we were discussing him wearing the C whenever Koivu stopped wearing it.
And I havn't heard much about Laraque except how useless he was.
@HF10
Good Lord, what kind of twelve year olds do you know? If I met a twelve-year old with that kind of filthy mouth I'd be amazed. Disturbed, but amazed.
2 kids under the age of 3? Oh, just wait. Seriously. It's a whole new world out there. The new teenage male and his cohorts are far scarier than you can imagine. They are much more colorful than we were in the 80s and are a wonderful influence on younger siblings (lovely to hear a three year old say "what the fuck?" when his Lego falls over). Although I drilled classic rock into my kids' heads in utero they have all gone over to the dark side of rap. I invite you to google the lyrics to any Lil Wayne song (Alphabet Bitches is a personal bulimia tool for me) and let me know how you feel about parenthood in 2009.
On topic, I agree, Toronto sucks!
Moey
I agree about H I/O
Did you see the epic debate about whether or not it was permissible to discuss the planned HIO meet on the discussion board?
glad to see everyone having fun today!
Philippe Boucher retires. Bertrand Raymond wants to know why Gainey didn't make him an offer
"Philippe Boucher retires. Bertrand Raymond wants to know why Gainey didn't make him an offer", on his knees.
Fixed.
Also, leaf sucks. Drop the fucking already.
@Boob,
Oh yeah, I saw that. The thing is, it's bad enough reading that crap, can you imagine actually paying good money to be with some of those people for a whole weekend? Kill.me.now.
Habs news, kind of:
Rookie camp starts Monday.
@SD, yup, rookie camp line-up here (its a freakin' .pdf kidz).
Detroit 9th rounder Johansson is going to the camp, but the guy the Habs signed out of the prospect camp (Engqvist) is going straight to the main camp.
Kind of weird.
What do the Leafs and the Titanic have in common?
They both look good until they hit the ice.
They made money off of a sinking ship.
@GG11: Try your nine-year-old singing "you spin me right round when you go down..." I asked her where she thinks "down" is and she said, "I guess the subway?" Thank God. There's still some shred of innocence there.
@Moey: Jeez, what happened to you? You used to love HIO. I gave up on it last year when the secret police and twelve-year-old nerds joined on.
Tickets go on sale Saturday morning (internet only).
GO HABS GO!
@J.T. Day in, day out, HIO has become like that scene in The Name of the Rose where the competing religious orders debate whether or not Christ owned the clothes on His back. It's just tome, after tome, after goddamn tome. I ran out of epic scores to accompanying them. Crap, you'd think that you accidently wandered in to a meeting of the freakin' Toe Blake Society. What's even worse is that you can tell that many of those people never laced on a pair of skates and actually played the game.
You think that's bad? You should look in the Canadiens forums. Egads! At least the Hawks have a zillion pages on Versteegisms (and it's all mostly awesome).
If Lucic makes the Olympics, better hope that PK unit is up to snuff. And maybe he'll smack Komo there too.
@J.T.
This could be a whole other blog but you haven't lived till you've seen 100 kids dance and sing "my humps, my lovely little lumps" at a bar mitzvah party. Actually it's equally horrifying to watch Uncle Chaim dance to that too but that's a whole other story.
Well I see this blog really is a full time job. The season hasn't even begun and I'm already fueled with rage at everyone living in - or from - Toronto which includes Mr. GG11 who renounced the leafs in order to get married and my aging in-laws who have always loved me like a daughter/Montrealer-who-stole-their-only-son-the-doctor away from Toronto and his real home.
I may need HFDivorceLawyer by January.
You got an Ontario doctor to come and practice in Quebec?
You got an Ontario doctor to come and practice in Quebec?
Yup. Grew up speaking french and when a residency spot opened up at Mcgill I...I mean he, grabbed it. We had just lost the cup in 1989 and it was the only way to cheer me up. Other than fucking health care in Quebec he lives life like he grew up here and wouldn't go back to Toronto or give up the Laurentians for anything. Oh, don't get me wrong, he's a complete ass most of the time, but at least he's an ass in a city that isn't Toronto.
I'm UofT med 1989. (8T9 as they say)
Hmmmm. Interesting. hockey playing Plastic Surgeon by any chance?
Am I the only one who finds it funny that the Habs vs Leafs hatred gets further fueled by a anti-Leafs rant by a Sens fan? I should feel sorry for the Sens supporters, but that would mean they actually exist and isn't imaginary.
You know, sort of like the Habs chances of coming out alive facing the Leafs this season.
@JT,
I pretty much gave up on HIO months ago when the Habs were tanking before Carbo was sacked. There was so much venom being spewed I needed a shower after reading it. I started to hang out here instead, especially on game nights and I'll be doing the same this year. Much more intelligent and entertaining.
