Fuck Vidéotron in the ass: don't expect to see any Habs regional coverage any time soon

So we were all excited when TSN announced a package of 24 Habs games to be broadcast in Eastern Canada. Not that we don't enjoy RDS, but a break from Benny Brunet is always good. And those TSN games seemed to be McSplooge-free! Bonus! Of course the games are on BellTV, given that TSN and BellTV are all part of the same happy family giant media conglomerate. But most people in Quebec, and thus a huge majority of Habs fans, have Vidéotron as their cable or satellite provider. We figured it would only be a matter of time before Vidéotron got those games on. Alas, I have bad news. An inquiry to Vidétron's "customer service" about the TSN games has yielded the following response:

Sir, Madam,

We thank you for having taken the time to write to us.

TSN announced that it has acquired the rights to broadcast 24 games of the regional Montreal Canadians in English. These games will not be presented or TSN or TSN2, but at another position which will not in itself be an official channel and will be functional only when these games will be broadcasted.

Please note that TSN already has broadcast rights to 16 games of the Montreal Canadians who will be featured on their regular channels. The games for which the chain has recently acquired the broadcast rights are not and were not presented by any other English broadcasters before this new agreement. The broadcasting of games on Saturday are the property of CBC, while RDS has the exclusive broadcast rights for all Canadiens games in French.

For now, no agreement has occurred between TSN and Videotron on the possible introduction of these 24 games. Since your opinion is important to us, we have forwarded your interest for this channel to our marketing department. New content generating strong demand may lead to its inclusion in our services in the future.

We hope this explanation has been helpful.  Do not hesitate to contact us again for any further information you may need.  Our customer service department will be pleased to answer you as soon as possible.

[name of unhelpful customer service rep redacted]

Yes, this explanation has been extremely helpful! In telling me I'm never seeing these games in my lifetime.

To be fair to Videotron (and this blog is always fair to all parties correct?) they had a similar response when asked about when they'd get TSN2. That happened relatively quickly.

if they're forwarding your inquiry maybe we should all start sending in a request for them to get ass together!!!!

hey you guy are all lawyers, explain to me why Canada has the most extortionate cable and telecommunications corporate oligarchies in the developed world. Their obnoxious pricing and meager service are truly second to none, so why is the government protecting them?

Even here in Germany, people got together to force the prices down, even in Germany. As it stands I am forced to scrounge around to get occasionally grainy, fuzzy p2p feeds from wherever, but at least no Jolly Rogers/Bell/Video-non humiliating institutional brigandry.

and yes GG that is plenty stripper enough for me, though videotron thing looks like either a bottle opener or that its a fart. I like the Habs tramp stamp tho.

*cough cash crab cough* the beat goes on. One thing the Habs can learn from the laffs is how to squeeze and humiliation of the customer. I read a profile of Geoff in the Globe, he was looking for synergies to get more revenue from cable, but said " I could never imagine hockey not being on standard TV" That was a true as Condi Rice saying " I could never imagine passenger planes being used as weapons>"

I just wanted to know I was not insane. So I googled Patrick Wah, and nothing. What I wanted to confirm is not material, but what I found is scandalousness. Bottom line why is there no bronze of Ken Dryden? Jorge Venzia or Jack Plante? Not many people play goal, no statue for you.

I expect as soon a Bettman can bring in a traveling rule, they will also make goaltending a free throw.

I wish CTV would switch to the Habs game when the mysterious TSN feed starts. Better Habs than some other dancing show...

I have resigned myself to RDS. Yes, I must pay extra (and my "TV" bill is too high) but it is only another $3.50 per month and I get all the games.

Oh yes, I like strippers but GG11's photoshps are a big part of FHF for me. Keep up the GREAT work, GG11! To all you "more stripper" guys. Try to think with both of the heads that god gave you. :o)

I wrote to Pierre Karl and Co. but I'm not so confident they will be moving to placate the odd anglo customer. Most people in Quebec couldn't give a %$(& whether the games are broadcast in English or not! Sad but true.

I have Bell, I watched a game on TSN-A.

Whatev...same game, different voices. Not the end of the world if you don't have it. It's not like you can't still watch the games.
