The Morning Skate for Wednesday, February 16th

Today's Heritage Classic alternate jersey is making me thirsty
Bullet points for what you missed while dreaming of a Prince and Princess' visit to Canada...
  • Classic blunder last night. Sure, the most famous is "never get involved in a land war in Asia", but slightly less famous is "never get involved in a shootout with the Sabres". Even if it takes 10 rounds, you'll lose. Sabres 3 Habs 2 (SO). More later;
  • Grabs! Kessel! Plan the Yonge Street parade! Leaf 4, Bs 3;
  • We're too upset about blowing our chance to get to 1st in the Northeast we're not writing about any more games. Here's your scoreboard. Looks like Philly-Tampa was a good one;
  • Kaberle to Bruins? What happened to not trading to your division rival?
  • Bs land Chris Kelly from Ottawa;
  • Dustin Byfuglien signs a big extension with the Thrash.
Seriously we're annoyed this morning.

re: kaberle to bruins.... don't the leafs need to be a decent team to be a rival? Ever notice that when the laffs lose we don't hear much but when the manage a win.... Kessel for Mayor!!!!
just sayin.
If I were an Ottawa fan (I just live there/here) I'd be holding off on anything but an Alfie jersey, funny Kelly to B's is like 3rd page news.

Fuck, I just cant get the image of Pyatt skating up like a slot hockey player spinning off a hopeless shot. But I least he tried, Mex's attempt was like he was shooting at a Pee Wee goalie at a charity event.

Thanks for pointing out their are bigger parasites than Mex, we got Princess and Prince Parasite doin a month long luxury vacation on our dime, fuck the fucking Royals I want my money back and a free year at Buckingham Palace.

Finally I have major man love for 3D.

@Daddy Says - dammit, you beat me to the punch. I was thinking that the Leafs' only rival was whichever team they were trying to out-suck in order to get a high draft pick...

... which will belong to the Bs anyway, so it's like we're getting screwed over twice by these assholes.

AK46 for Kovy?

@moey, no for me, if we were one player from the parade, take the chance, but what is going to be diffident this year to get through Philly?

I would still like Kovy for the run, but maybe for a big bag of pucks like we got for Jaro.

So, "the System" was displayed in all its glory last night. Outshoot your opponent 18-7 in the first period, build a 2 goal lead and then sit back and let them come at you in waves, with a semi-AHL defence yet. Great work Chokula.

Anybody else notice after Buffalo's first goal by Vanek (stick side on Price) every fucking shooter, except Tyler Myers, went for that exact same spot. Looks like Buffalo's coaching staff was paying attention. Seriously, JM, Tom Pyatt?

Have you read the editorial from BR. I'm ashamed to say that but it's the first almost good article from him since .... hummm .... the beginning of his career.

I still don't understand the title tho ...

TFS for president!

@Steve,

One name - Price

Both times we were eliminated by said flyers our goaltending wasn't stellar.

@Moey its going to be fun to find out.

I think Price is a couple of years away from that kind of series. He still lets in that one soft goal far to often to beat the Flyers.

Let's not forget the boys not only blew a 2 goal game lead but also a 2 goal SO lead. After they potted their first two they had 3 seperate chances to end it and didn't. Just no finish. And the fact that by the 8th round I was more fimiliar with the Saber players than our own scares me a bit. Like I said last night, 2nd time in a week they got beat by an AHL goalie in the SO.

But they play the lowly Oilers tomorrow! That's a gimme, right! What's that? They lost to them in December? At home? Well, I'm sure there was...oh, they gave up the lead in that one, too? And then the Flames who they also almost epically collapsed against? Super.

It's funny, every season as the playoffs approach, it's assumed the same teams that met last year will eventually play the following year. I seem to remember the No. 1 team in the East last year got knocked out by the No. 8 which got inhuman goaltending by some guy, I forget his name.
If I were the Philthy's, I would be scared of a very hot Carolina or Buffalo team with no expectations and really good goaltenders and I have to depend on some nobody named Bob or Boucher.
There's no guarantee the Phucktards will be waiting for the Habs after they slay the cowardly Bruins. I say it's wide open to the Finals.

Tell me why the guy with the hardest slapshot on the team, when given an opportunity in a shoot out tries to deke? Come on Wiz, there is a reason that coach in Squirts (Atoms in the US) made you a defenseman. Blast it. Top of the circle. Drive the bleeping goalie right back into the webbing.

I gotta upgrade me to some of that good maritime koolaid. sounds yummy.

Steve said...

@b PFK should have done that, I believe its against the code.

@Orangeman, the Sabers are not exactly chopped liver and our boys are well mostly boys and old men. It was painful to watch Hammer at time, he was'nt skating he was shuffling.
As usual blame the system, get ahead and then try and eat the clock. IT IS A INSULT TO THE HOCKEY GODS.

AK46 for Kovy?

Seriously dude????
Why would for the fuck trade a 40 pts guy for another?

Throw in AK46, Gomez, Pyatt, a 1st and a 2nd round pick for Phillips and Spezza

@Bill101, no koolaid necessary, just Gary's prescribed mediocrity meds. Playoffs still a long way off, injuries and slumps can change lots of things. Usually, some the so-called favourites fall by the wayside. Besides, Mr. natural is working on a voodoo thang for the Phucktards.
