TMS is thinking about politics, race and history

As we (well, "we" in the sense that Canada is the 51st state) turn from Martin Luther King Day to this historic Inauguration Day, TMS can't help but think about things other than hockey. Sure, the Habs head to Atlanta for a game tonight, but that's the furthest thing from our mind. We can only think of what President-Elect Obama has accomplished, how far the human race has come, and how far it still has to go.

But watching Barack Obama today, sleep tonight MLK, for your dreams have been realized.

Racisms as just received its biggest blow. It is indeed a great day for everyone who taught the color of your skin doesn’t make any differences. Lets just hope that the color of Obama’s skin will not be the biggest difference with is predecessors.

For now I’m still wondering if it’s the departure of Bush or the arrival of Obama that is the greatest news. Lets say that for now it’s a little bit of both and hope that a few years will prove us that Obama is worthy of MLK comparisons.

Definitely both.

Dubya pulling up the moving vans and heading to Dallas is excellent - but to have a President with a background as a Constitutional law scholar and someone who figures that scientific decisions should be made based on, you know, actual SCIENTIFIC FACT and someone who believes that you should try radical techniques like diplomacy and negotiation before you start waving around your weapons like a demented Yosemite Sam and threatening to blow them up ... this is the first election in years that I was actually thrilled to vote in, and the most I have ever looked forward to an inauguration.
