The Game Day Skate for Thursday, May 20th

Bullet points for what you missed while having nightmares of Cyclopsian Olympic mascots...
Since this pathetic excuse for a post contains no original material whatsoever, please scroll down to read HF4's historical brilliance from late yesterday. This is your morning reminder not to feed the trolls. And speaking of comments, there were some issues last night with comments vanishing into the ether. It was a Blogger problem that was happening to hundreds, possibly thousands, possibly millions of blogs. We have no idea if it's fixed. You get what you pay for.

Cue the trumpets, the Orange has returned. I'm pulling out all the stops for our boys. Return to form and all that. Tomorrow is yet another holiday here (Buddha's birthday) so I will be able to watch the whole game in the comfort of my home and yell at CBC here throughout.

I've already started drinking tonight at dinner as per pre-Game 7 tradition and tomorrow I will scrub my floors as per Game 5,6,7 tradition vs Washington. I'm already pantless and that will not change until the conclusion of tomorrow's game (the 7/11 clerk will just have to deal with it). And of course the Orangemanliness. I feel an OT game coming. You heard it here first! I'll get my heart medication ready, too.

GYFHG! I STILL BELIEVE!

While listening to my Albanian Satelitte feed, it's the latest analog technology, they were playing reruns of Kim Jong Il's greatest speeches (man I love that guy).

In one he was referred to the fact that the PHucktards (he actually uses that term, I was quite surprised) suck Donkey Dick and that Leighton will crack tonight and the floodgates will open.

I only re-tell this episode because I think this is where the CBC and TSN analysts get most of their hockey insight.

GYMFHG!

Words of inspiration from Winnie and H.D. Thoreau:

"I have, myself, full confidence that if all do their duty, if nothing is neglected, and if the best arrangements are made, as they are being made, we shall prove ourselves once again able to defend our Island home, to ride out the storm of war, and to outlive the menace of tyranny, if necessary for years, if necessary alone.

we shall fight on the beaches,
we shall fight on the landing grounds,
we shall fight in the fields and in the streets,
we shall fight in the hills;
we shall never surrender,

Ya BABY!

All endeavor calls for the ability to tramp the last mile, shape the last plan, endure the last hours toil. The fight to the finish spirit is the one... characteristic we must possess if we are to face the future as finishers.

So a poll says 68% of CanadiAns are supporting the CanadiEns. That's nice. The part that dismays me is that 66% of Leaf fans say they will root for the Habs. I'm sorry, that's unacceptable. I would never, under any circumstances, family held hostage and atomic bombs pointed at populated areas, support the Leafs. I consider it an essential part of being a Habs fan to begin with. The only Leaf fans I respect (that is to say, think of as partly human) are the 26% who refuse to take any part in this run. Now that's someone you can hate.

Anyway, just bidding my time till puck drop. The beer is only making things worse. I'm doing it for the team! THE TEAM!

PANTS!

Wow, the historical history things are in abundance and also throughout this fine morning and yesterday to. We will be putting a bitch-slapping on those ugly Pliers tonight in our House of Hockey, one that hopefully will be well membered and also not forgotten any time soon. We shall see the Return of The Halak, we will put puck in net and all things holy and sexy shall return and not go away again. All is well. Go Habs.

Jaybird said...

There's no way 66% of Leafs fans are going for Montreal, numbers are skewed.

C'mon boys let's get back on track tonight and show some nuts! Get Rhino Rollin' and restrict MAB and hammer to low minutes. Let's fuckin' do this!

Go Habs GO!!!

Speaking of historical, today is the second day of Shavuot. Commandments were given to the Jewish people and I'm pretty sure that no one wore pants back then. Thou shalt not take anymore dumb penalties, Scott Gomez. Amen.

Ok, I'm hearing alot of bangs and whistles outside. This is either a Buddha celebration or the North invading. I had the choice of contacting my family or posting here. If I don't make it, tell the Habs I love them.

Now silence. Seoul is never silent. Oh god.

I leave everything to Halak!

the Maritimer said...

If you want you talk history, great speech by Sir Winston, by the way (and my favourite bar in Momtreal), the Habs can turn things around not by lighting up Michael Leighton, but by someone, O'Byrne maybe, beating the living daylights out of some shithead Phlyer, like Larry Robinson did to Dave Shultz back in 1976. Game, set, match.

Were you around then DJ Troll?

dwgs said...

Geez, when you said you were gonna quote Winnie I thought you meant something more like this,
"Rabbit," said Pooh to himself. "I like talking to Rabbit. He talks about sensible things. He doesn't use long, difficult words, like Owl. He uses short, easy words, like 'What about lunch?' and 'Help yourself, Pooh'."

66% of Leaf fans going for the habs!?

NO FUCKING CHANCE!!!

GYFFG!!!!

Get ready for a Gagne Hat trick high glove side Halak!

I predict Michael "holy shit I'm in the playoffs?!" Leighton will blow a levee tonight.

I've been spending the morning trying to come up with a witty, insightful (fuck, I hate that word) thought provoking, heartfelt post. After much soul searching and reflection, I've come up with this.

If we lose tonight we're fucked.

moeman said...

Moey, have a few spritzers later and the "witty, insightful (fuck, I hate that word) thought provoking, heartfelt post" will flow like a some of your blog's sweet ramblings.

@moe,

I'm just in a pissy mood today. I finally ordered my new Iphone two weeks ago. It's lost in transit. I could scream. Roger's is trying to track it down. I was so looking forward to taking a hammer to the useless piece of HTC monkey shit that I've suffered with for two long years.

Okie dokie. I feel better now.

4's post from yesterday must be truly epic to warrant a link on the might HI/O site. Well done. Or is it WTF?

I'm not one for super spicy food, but I made chili last night and I put in one habanero pepper in honour of our team. Jesus H Christ those things are hot. I got rid of the seeds - sent them to Mad Max to rub on his gloves so when he gives Briere a good face wash, it burns the eyes right out of his cocky little face.

Anywho, chili and beer tonite. And a habs victory. Can't ask for more than that. Well, I could, but I'm sure Mrs LD won't go for it....

According to Godin's Twitter, Big Sexy's getting the axe again tonight.

Aye aye aye.

6ft5, 230 lbs vs the soggy noodle that is MAB on D? I will never understand Chocula's way of thinking.

Whatever. Other than that, I'm feeling pretty confident about tonight. I smell wings!

GYFHG!!!

lawyergirl77 said...

@RiRi - he just corrected it. Looks like Chocs is going to go with 7 D-men and sit Darche.

ABOUT FUCKING TIME.

GoldenGirl11 said...

@Orange
Just had the insinkerator repairman here. Didn't speak a word of English but insisted on asking me a zillion hockey questions (he's not a hockey fan). He wanted to know how to pronounce "Jaroslav" and then somehow made the jump from Czechs to South Koreans being the nicest people on the planet (nothing like those communist, war mongering North Koreans). He spent an hour, hit the reset button and charged me $121.

Boob Gainey said...

I went to a pre-season game this year and Ryan O'Byrne looked like Larry Freakin' Robinson out there.

Sadly, since then he's gone back to looking like Ryan O'Byrne.

Still I agree he is better than MAB on D. But the blogger JT is right - we're missing D-men who can start the offence from our zone.

Hopefully Leighton pulls a Steve Penney tonight.

Christopher Sama said...

I know offense has been lacking but playing O'Byrne will help that. By banging around, he can take pressure off of a guy like Spatch or Hamr so that they can make the first pass.

I'd like to see:

Gorges-Gill
Spatch-Subban
Hamr-O'Byrne

@ldude
enjoy your chili and beer... and good luck on number 3...

wv: you acketh and the habs delivereth.

lawyergirl77 said...

I actually think that Hamr and Spacek should stay together. Along with Gill/Gorges.

I would put Rhino with PFK. Rhino worked really well with Markov... while PFK still needs to refine his game, he plays the most like Markov out of any of our other D-men. Might be a nice combo.

I'm so happy! We're getting our Big Sexy back!

Not digging the one-eyed mascot for the Olympics. Eh, they're Brits. Never could figure them out.

Christopher Sama said...

@lg77

i've been wanting to split the czech connection mainly because spacek has been playing on the wrong side all year and i think that's hurt his offense.

hamrlik and o'byrne used to be paired together back in the day and played well together.

spacek and pk would up the offense potential, so you'd want to try and match them with our top two lines, which pearn should be able to do with last change.

Mr. natural said...

@GG11: Shavuot + pants? LOL

@LG77: thanks for the good news on Rhino. R U Still playing hard to get?

@Maritimer: Agree W/comments and at the risk of getting bashed I will add that all we need is for Rhino to clear the front of our net, punch at least one tough guy out, play winger on the PP and crash Leighton.....OH PHUCK it all depends on Rhino!!!

Well better than relying on a-cup to be a game changer.

Don't know who started Count Chocula but that shits pure gold.

GYMFHG!!!

@GG11: You have to realize that Korea is a Confucious society, so there is a difference between being familiar and a stranger. If you've been properly introduced by a 3rd party and you have something of value (ie English skillz) then this is the nicest place to be. If, on the other hand, you have not been introduced or offer nothing to the Korean then you are a non-person (really, that's the term).

So, yes, the few dozen Korean I know personally are the nicest people I have ever known. The other 35 million? Have you ever been attacked with a high heel for a bus seat? Spat at? Sprayed in the eyes with bug spray? That's my commute to work every morning. On a good day. Don't get me wrong, Korea is good. I have no problem with a coutry that just let me buy a shitload of beer for $5 at 1am.

And don't get me started on the illegal downloads.

Orangeman said...

Oh god, am I on to Korean culture? Has the game started yet? I need hockey. I need the Habs. I NEED TO KNOW.

ok, calm down. This is why pot needs to be legal here. Lil' bit of ice cream, put on Daily Show and I'm out like a 5 year old at the Botanical Gardens (/personal experience). But now I'm all full of beer and interweb noise. Line combinations. The PK box. Shots vs scoring chances.

I need a random kid running by my window chanting Ole right about now.

Caduceus said...

First, I want to say that I fucking love this blog. It's the only one I read regularly apart from HI/O (minus their "Comments" section, of course).

Second, I just wanna get something off my chest. In the spirit of the Buddha's upcoming birthday, I just would like to say to the Flyer trolls and hooligan fans... I forgive you.

I forgive you for the insults, the ignorance, the vandalism, and the classlessness.

The Habs and the Flyers both have their incredible share of heroics and both deserve praise for making it this far. If belittling the opposition and their fanbase makes you think that it gives your team the edge, then... there's not much I can do about that kind of illogical behavior, except to forgive you. If you think that it makes you a better person, then I feel sorry for you, but you're forgiven just the same.

If you have ever felt slighted by a Habs fan then I hope that you can one day forgive him or her.

In the same vein, if this causes a lot of troll backlash, then I hope you FHFers can forgive me too; this post was not meant to be troll food.

In the end, the best team will win and deserve it. Personally, I am attached to the Habs, whom I've been a fan of since I was a little kid. I have every reason to believe that they can overcome adversity, so I remain ever hopeful that they can pull off what many pundits deems improbable. If they don't, I will still be proud of this little team that could.

Go You Fucking Habs. Go.

@Caduceus - that was outstanding. i dont give a fuck what kind of reaction it gets, and even if it does get one, i forgive you

There's a quote on the side here, "The only sports blog I read". That could have been said by me. The frequency of my posts here might suggest otherwise, but it actually reflects the fact that I don't look at other sports blogs, not even Habs I/O, at least not until the last round. I just want to cheer/jeer on my team without panic or bashing anyone else. Except the Leafs of course.

I found this place by accident a couple of years ago, a lonely Habs fan in the middle of Asia. I think I googled "Habs+boobies" and got this site. Once my initial disappointment wore off i really started to get into it here. Then, like days later, the 5-0 comeback happened. It was fate my friends.

Then I saw 29's half-n-half jersey and I reconsidered my involvement in this enterprise.

My point is, Go Habs Go! (getting back to basics)
