THE MAGIC ENDS

So many ups and downs, so much drama. The most magic we've seen in years coupled with the most gut wrenching hockey experience we can remember. I honestly believe my heart couldn't tolerate more of this.

Our traditional call to black has arrived. We must go mourn now.

Ray Ferraro on TSN saying the Habs run this year was identical to the Isle's run in 1993. Let's see, Ray. Your Isle team beat a comparable Cap team in the first round. Habs came back from 3-1 to take down the best team in the league. Isles take out defending champs Pens in 2nd round. Yes, that's the same. Isles go down to much better Hab team in 3rd round. Habs go down to evenly matched Phlyer team. Oh, but both you and Squid had 13 goals. I guess if you rub your shoulders with greatness enough you end up being great? Or something.

And I want to state again I am very satisfied with what happened with this spring. Of course I wanted them to go all the way, but I really never expected them to get this far. I thought they could have played better against the Phlyers, especially G1 and G4, but after everything they've been through and the injury to Markov I'm not disappointed at all. And, hey, at least they didn't get shut out again.

It was a great run and it showed what could have been. The frustration of this series was the same frustration that plagued the regular season - inconsistancy. When they put the effort in we got games like Game 3 - when they didn't, unfortunately we got way way way too many games like Game 4. Now (today) is not the time to make sweeping statements so I'll wait and reflect a bit first.

Let me thank you 4 for another awesome year. You guys feel like family and LG77, GG11, Moey are the cool aunts. Moeman is the bizarre uncle with a (parody) song in his heart, Gillis, KC,Orange, et al making up the circle of friends - there are others of course but I was up late watching last night so pardon any ommissions.

Thanks guys.

The agony of defeat, but the run was so sweet!

No what ifs, second guesses etc. it's over, let's look ahead.

> Make sure to tie up PFK.
> Keep both goalies.
> Trade big tits.
> Trade Pouliot.
> Shoot MAB in the head.

Don't know whose contracts are up and who is signed through the next season but there are some players who played with determination and using their heads, didn't rattle under pressure and you want to hang onto them.

Anyway back to the real world too early and not enough time to debate them all.

Happy about the run, yes, but I still feel empty in the way the game went last night... For teams that haven't tanked for years, the only way they can make a good run is with hard work and a convenient convergence of events (example: weak defence of the Caps and weak goaltending from the Pens). And like many a frustating game we've seen this year, it's just stupid little mistakes that cost them. I'll have nightmares of that Jaro colliding with Hamr play and totally missing the puck basically giving Richards' a free goal for months now... Especially with how the media is calling it a SPECTACULAR goal. Barf.

Oh the what ifs, could haves, should haves, would haves.

It was an incredible run and we were in for a great free ride.

love what our Habs did this post-season. nobody gave them a chance from the get-go and they showed the supposed experts that they know fuck-all.
I can't wait for next year to see what will become of this team and whether they will continue to show us they are worth ruining our social and working life in order to follow them passionately.

I'm now totally rooting for the Hawks.

Many thanks to FHF (including GG) for creating such an amazing online home for us. And many thanks to the commentariat for making obessive/compulsive analysis of the Habs such a fun and enjoyable way to spend a work day... er, I mean, uh... *cough*

Now the off-season fun starts. Le sigh.

It was amazing to see all the Leafers come in this morning just grinning as they anticipated my misery. Didn't happen. I didn't want it to stop but there was no shame and no sorrow. I spent the last two games at the cottage, no internet but a satellite dish so I spent my in-between game time priming pumps and fixing boats.

I hope everyone enjoys their summer, I know that I will - sitting on my dock and drinking beer.

I was at the game last Saturday... And i only have one thing to say:

I was utterly, completely DISGUSTED by their effort. There was no energy, no effort, no speed, no hits, NOTHING! I spent 250$ for that weekend in Montreal, and i told myself "Win or lose, as long as i come out of the Bell Center with my ears ringing, i'll be happy"

Well guess what? After the player introduction (During which the crowd was very loud btw) you could almost hear crickets. The crowd was very energetic for the first 10 minutes... But then it became evident that the Habs would lose this one...

ZERO effort, they would walk away from every checking opportunity that was presented to them, and they always passed the puck instead of shooting it.

It was a horrible display and i daresay one of the worst Habs games i've seen over the last 5 years.

Some fans actually started picking fights with security guards after the game, and you know what? I don't blame them. A night in a prison cell would've been time better spent than at that sickening display of what they call "hockey"

So the Habs lost yesterday? Good for them! They ruined my weekend, so fuck 'em

/rant

WV: The Habs couldn't shoot the puck in the snets.

Man, it is really warm and fuzzy in here after a playoff elimination but it obviously reflects the fact that none of us thought we'd be talking about a Habs game in late May.

I really worry about the future of this team and if we'll enter a death spiral like some other surprise conference finalist of recent years (Carolina & Edmonton, I'm looking at you). I worry about Markov's health, what the fuck to do with ZombiePleks (yeah, I went there), the goalie situation, etc.

I'll echo everybody's sentiments of a great season around here at FHF. Thanks to GG for all the photoshop goodness, HF4, HF29, HF10 & HF33 for all the posts, Moeman for the song parodies and everyone who comments here, whether frequently or once in awhile for being seven thousand times better than HIO.

OK, I've had the day to mull things over and I'm ready to pass judgement. The Habs have some issues to deal with in the off-season. I, for one, think that they should keep both Price and Halak. Why not? What they were expecting to have to pay Price after this "breakout" season (that never was) they can now give to Halak. Everyone wins there. MAB must go and I don't know about busting the bank to keep Pleks happy - he completely tanked when it mattered most. We need to get some size up front (how's that for "sucking eggs...?) But most importantly - we need to nuture PFK. He is a fuckin' gem and as screwed on as his head appeared during the playoffs, we all know what the Montreal Media and fans can do to some young players. He is the future of the next "Big 4" and he needs to be looked after by Perry. Chockula...Chockula...how do you fix a problem like Chockula...I will admit I'm uncertain if he is the Messaih or the second coming of Mario (You are so so Dead to me) Tremblay. I mean, it's kinda hard to lay the blame on him when they play like they did in Game 3 and then compare it to how they played in Game 4 - I mean - WTF? - was that his fault?...You guys use a great word to describe how I'm feeling about the off-season - I'm no lawyer so I hope you'll allow me licence...meh?

wv: Let's not be too rekless with PFK next year!

Steve said...

Steve Manager

The team is fucked, Cap hits like Keith Richards in Afghanistan. Gill, Hammer, Sputnik all past tying the skate up. RFA filling the rink like Gary Bettman filling his mouth at a glory hole. Gomez, Urologist, only work on the Zamboni, send them to Hamilton. The tits brothers need a coach and Chocula is here until the French stop eating cheese and surrendering. Trade them to the Leafs for a bag of pucks and family pass to the hall of fame.

That leaves you with a basket full of grinders Shiny, lawboy, Taser, Gorgous, PFK, Squid,Giant, and the fragile Russian to build around.

The big question what to do in goal. Halak is down with at least 4 if not 5 large cases of molsons. Price needs just as much coke. So do you blow up the team. Get a fucking Lindros deal from some shitwader team like Lightning for Halak, or build for the future and trade Carey for a big fuck who can stand in front of the net and score dirty rim jobs? I say blow the fucker up, get some fat meat to give the waterbugs rooom, take the draft picks and the prospects and plan on 2013.

This is very politically incorrect but ... did Halak cost us the series against Philly.

We outshot them pretty much every game. In three of the games he gave up 3 goals on the first 10-12 shots.

Yesterday his blunder on the 1st goal completely killed our momentum.

How was his performance any different than Price's against Philly two years ago?

Add to that his pain in the ass agent, that whole thing about the player photos on the playoff tickets, and I am starting to rethink his sainthood.

lawyergirl77 said...

@Boob - what about Halak and the player photos on the tickets??

Ok, let's look at the big picture.

Montreal plays their last game on May 24th after a great playoff run.

Toronto was essentially eliminated from playoff contention way back in mid October.

Boston orchestrated one of the most humiliating collapses in NHL history.

I'm happy with all of the above.

@Boob, you may be on to something, but to early discuss.

Great site, well done all.

boob gainey said...

Apparently they printed playoff tickets with pictures of current and former Habs on them, a different one for each potential game.

For Philly game 3 it happened to be Price and Dryden. When Walsh found out about this he freaked out and told anyone who was listening that it was a tremendous insult to Jaro,

Thing is, they had a Halak/Price ticket too (for a game in the finals). Sounds like they printed all the tickets and randomly assigned them to different games.

lawyergirl77 said...

@Boob - I knew about the tickets. I think the one with Halak on it has Roy or Plante in the background, no?

I come home - she lifted up her wings
Guess that this must be the place
I can't tell one from another

There was a time Before we were born
If someone asks, this is where I'll be . . . where I'll be

Hi yo We drift in and out

Out of all those kinds of people
You got a face with a view
I'm just an animal looking for a home
Share the same space for a minute or two
And you love me till my heart stops
Love me till I'm dead
Eyes that light up, eyes look through you
Cover up the blank spots

I think the loss to the Phlyers is due to thier style, and our style of play.. Caps/Pens were firing 80+ pucks a game towards our net, and thus giving up possession of the puck, and allowing our transition game to excel. Phlyers cycled, and only took shots they thought they could score on... not a throw everything at the net mentality.. they gave up the puck about 75% less than the caps/pens..

Geh, Boob... Don't remind me of Jaro's forum troll agent... He can go shove twitter up his ass if that were possible. Dude loves the press way too much, and seems to love trying to set teammates against one another (or him vs the team: see Atlanta and how he nearly burned any bridges Pavelec had last year). I think he'd make great friends with Jackass Todd. Thankfully Price doesn't fall for that shit, is the ultimate team player and loyal to the end (said no to a sure chance for a Memorial Cup because he was too attached to his no-chance-in-hell junior team). Bring them both back, Goat. A hockey team needs two goalies, especially this one. Old "veterans" just get injured or can't keep up with the speed anymore. But if Agent Twit causes trouble, then that's Jaro's problem. (Maybe he can learn how to play the puck over the summer?) I don't trust Agent Twit much...

This really is the only blog, sports related or not, that I check up on and contribute to. You guys (29, 10, 4, 33, GG11 and LG77) made me feel at home since day one, in that I was a raging alcoholic that was losing friends by screaming about my Habs. Not much has changed, but I still enjoy this blog.

My first time with you I witnessed the greatest comeback in Habs history. Since then I've shared a 1st in the East, the HueT trade, series wins and losses against the Broons, the Centennial, proud pantsless moments, Moeman's stunning songs, the Olympics in Canada which reinvented my country, laughs, laughs and more laughs, the magic, the pure insane magic of these last few weeks and of course the sting of the end.

Thank you for making me feel less pathetic waking up at 7am to watch the games, for skipping trips with friends to see how it all turns out, for screaming like a castrated dog at the sight of the Habs first goal against Philly.

It's been ridiculous. I'll be back in Montreal for next season with my new Asian knockofffor10%ofrealprice Muller/Koivu jersey. But I'll be checking in here till then. Don't think you guys are off the hook. What else am I going to do? Work? Come on.

Go. Habs. GOOOOOO!

@Orange
Clearly you check this blog more than your own. Left you a message a few days ago. Do you have Korean students ghostwriting again?

When you get back you can trade in the knock off sweater for $100 and a hat. The Molsons don't want any fakes on the street. I have an original Muller.... the sweater, not the person.

WOW. it's been like almost 48 hours without any real habs news. i haven't had to urgently check the interwebs every 5 minutes to see if tom pyatt will be on the 3rd line or 4th line.

so i've been reading OTHER news.

did you guys know that there's an oil leak in the gulf of mexico? that the koreans are about to start WW3? that lindsey lohan is blonde again????

i even went outside today and found out that montreal has been fucking relocated to the surface of the sun.

man, a lot happens when you're growing a playoff beard.

I'm addicted to this site, everyone is witty, fun, cool, it's like an explosion of Scotch laden Meth for my senses.

One thing lacking though, I really miss Wendel Clark's Balls, that guy was knowledgable and had tremendous hockey insight a deft turn of a phare, truly an acumen for both sport and language that few can match.

WENDELL CLARK'S BALLS FOR PRIME MINISTER!

With all the FHF love being pantied about, I expect a lovely season-capping Pantscast!

If this season is to have a wake, it should be in the nature of an irish funeral - a celebration of what has passed, not a mourning sombre affair.

There is much good of this season, and much more good to come of this team.

Personally, that massive Jaro challenge FAIL on Richards was hilarious. I knew it was then end of the season for us right there, but, if it had to end that night, I guess it could end with a super gumption FAIL.

I must reiterate my appreciation for this site. Through the magic of streaming I watched more games this season than I ever have I even watched all 6 pre-season's games (who remembers Eric Nielsen?) it wouldn't have been half as much fun or even bearable at times without you people.

@MR Trivia just arrived in Seoul, Billary is ratcheting up the tough talk, but nobody's sweating here until we hear from big older brother to the west.

@Pamela: ooh that smarts. that quartet of petulent parched tits have been misshapening this team for too long. Given, they come from a bad country where only the truly bad get to go to school, but let them sap away at some other team's wholesome lockerroom cameraderie for a while.

all right greetings from sunny hazy morning of the a-puck-a-lapse . GYFHG! KM FTW! Dogs up 1-0 in the 2nd!!
