The (probably last) Game Day Skate for Monday, May 24th

Bullet points for what you missed while having nightmares of the end of Lost...
  • Well the Sharks did better than they usually do, but that ain't much, so it's the Blackhawks who are off to the final, after a 4-2 win to sweep the series. Congratulations, blah blah;
  • The Czechs upset the mighty Russians to win gold at the I;
  • Habs-Flyers roundup: more Jack Todd if you can stand it, underdog yada yada, what John Leclair thinks of all this, and Flyers fans laughing at us.
Happy Victoria Day / Dollard Day / Journée des patriotes, whatever. Season ends tonight. Oh maybe we should put a question mark after that.

Flyers fans laughing about the torch and lighting the ice? They don't have a clue of what it means. Fucktards. We'll have the last laugh when the Hawks hand them their collective asses.

Anyway, GYFHG!!!

Yeah, the season is over tonight. Or, is it? Yeah, it is. Unless they can somehow win this one and push it back home where the crowd will carry them through Game Six, then the confidence gets rolling for Game Seven? Nah, not gonna happen. Fairytale's over. Although, maybe it's not?

That's my impression of this year's Habs. Down and out, yet filled with unrealistic hope.

wv: I wish Pronger and Gagne were sleeping with the fishids.

I wanted to comment on LG77's excellent rants on the previous thread, bashing coach Martin's "system". I've never been much for the technical side of hockey having never played competitively, but I have to agree from what I have seen that the Canadiens try to play with "patience", that is, wait for the opponent to make a mistake and try to capitalize on it. Well, what if your opponent DOESN'T make a mistake? That's kinda what happened on Saturday.

So, could Gomez, Plekanec, Kostitsyn or anybody not named Cammalleri or Gionta please try to score a freakin' goal tonight!!???!!

And could HNIC/CBC please stop sucking Pronger and Richard"s asses? It's getting embarrassing.

GYFH..

If this really is the end, WOW! It has been a fun season. The emotional investment grew leaps and bounds, thanks to the post-season run. Frustrations from the regular season boiled up and ebbed; it's the playoffs that count, right Ovie?

This has been a memorable season for all the right reasons. If I'm allowed a wish, it would be this team finished the season outscoring opponents for the entire year. Six three-goal victory margins would do this!

Merci, Canadien...

JT: This?"I wish Pronger and Gagne were sleeping with the fishids." Made me spit out my coffee. +many many fishids for you! (And I couldn't agree more)

The Maritimer: Many thanks to you for the kind words. Playing the patient game is fine when it's the other team that's frustrated. But, for the first time this season (regular and playoff editions), when we outshoot our opponents, we *gasp* actually win.

It's gonna take a Heroic Halak tonight to get us back into this one... :(

WV: autshoto. As in, "Wouldn't it be nice to autshoto the Flyers tonight??"

@Swarkles - the Habs are 2-0 when I have rehearsal/auditions conflicting with the games...

... and I have rehearsal tonight and tomorrow night.

hmmmmm

@LG77, you're welcome.

It will take more than Halak to win tonight. Somebody needs to score a couple.

@The Maritimer: You're absolutely right. But our quality scoring chances often come off a big save from Jaro, and then a puck reversal up the ice to a quick shot from Squid/Gio/Lappy.

It all starts with Fortress Habs, I will give JM that. When our D feels solid, then we can take more risks and create scoring chances for ourselves.

Sadly, I think creativity may have been beaten out of PFK because of the "mistakes" he made in the past few games. But that just depresses me, so I won't think about it.

I think Jacques Martin is better suited to coach Team Germany. They love that passive hockey stuff...

Ovechkin, right now, looks to be the most depressed man in the world which means he'll come back next year with elbows flying. I'm thinking at least 4 suspensions.

That Flyers' post makes no sense...

GYFH! And Andrei, MORE WODKA!

(Also GO BULLDOGS! Beat the Texas Jamie Benn already. One win away from meeting the Capitals farm team for the Calder!)

They're laughing at the pre-game ceremony? It's definitely more entertaining and meaningful than what the Flyers call a ceremony: the en-mass battery toss during the warm-up skate.

Flyers are done. Starting today.

For a team and its fans that want it to be remembered and respected for its "Cinderella" resurrection from a 3-0 game deficit this season - not the only time it's been done in NHL history BTW - they certainly cannot grasp the basic concept of tit for tat. They want respect for their history? Try offering up respect for someone else's. Until then, fuck off, and also quit the goddamned whining. Their fucking Captain cries to the media so much these days he's making Sidney fucking Crosby look like he's actually sportin' a pair for crissakes.

Lacking an actual desire to check or ability to confirm that Sid does indeed have a set of balls, though, it's just a theory at this point.

Pyatt's out. Darche's in. Habs facing elimination again. Tyg stressed out. Status quo.

I think we'll win tonight... not sure about Wednesday, though.

@all armchair experts and bandwagon jumpers:

> It is a bout desperation, wanting it more, sacrifice etc.

> If we win tonight we WILL win the series.

> Giroux, Gagne and Briere have 8 of their 13 goals, their offense is not well spread around (OK so so far we have none in this series but that's beside the point).

> Do NOT count this bunch out yet, in fact every time we count them out they win, so far without fail against better teams than the PHucktards.

> Without getting into all the details on tactics and players, Halak big game, quality scoring chances (that BIG PHuck Leighton is ready to crack)and we can win this one, then all we have to do is win game six and then it's a game 7 scenario, perfect!

GYMFHG, SKATE SKATE SKATE, BLOCK BLOCK BLOCK, please don't make me smash my TV in a drunken fury, I love you guys and want it more for yourselves THAN I do for myself and the rest of your PHickle PHandom.

I am sending out the VIBE that will tie all positive energy together for the HABS, stop being negative and send out positive energy.

WIN WIN WIN WIN WIN WIN WIN WIN WIN WIN WIN WIN WIN WIN WIN WIN

Don't worry guys, I've only missed one game this series, and it was one win so far. The good news is that I'm not going to be able to watch the habs play tonight. It's kind of depressing actually, I haven't seen them score a single goal on Leighton.

Sorry, my bad. I know I am not allowed to cheer for the Habs, it is statistically proven that they are more likely to lose if I do, but the first 2 rounds lured me into a false sense of security. (Come on, they can take down the capitals and the penguins but not the fliers?)

Not sure I can bring myself to cheer for the halloween crew, that is just sick and wrong...what would be next? Cheering for the Leafs? ~shudders~
