The Game Day Skate for Monday, January 17th

Bullet points for what you missed while dreaming of making it to the AFC CHanpionsh... FUCK YEAH FUCK YOU BILL BELICHICK...
  • Hey, scoreboard help! The Rangers lose 3-2 to the Flyers, and Gaborik was benched. Sure, benching always works with enigmatic Europeans;
  • Sens almost had something going but the Caps get 3 goals in the 3rd for a 3-1 win;
  • The Finnish Used To Be Flash got his 1300th career point in the Ducks' 3-2 win over the Oil;
  • We actually almost sort of agree with Jack Todd today, if only he wouldn't write like a 3-year old child sometimes;
  • The NHL's Stan Lee Guardian Project All-Star promotion thingy finally gets to the Habs, and we are afraid for our life.
Flames in town tonight. Yay for a Western team for a change!

So I read Jack Todd today and I agree with your agreeing. I also agree with this part especially - ...
Zeros: Don Cherry, Colin Campbell, Andrei Kostitsyn...last but not least, Mike Milbury -the worst GM in NHL history transformed into the worst commentator.

How bad do you have to be to get sacked from HNIC?

wv. watching Don Cherry is really getting uncomfortable and arkwj

@Kmaxx, "How bad do you have to be to get sacked from HNIC?"

Slag the leaf like Al Strachan did and the door hits your ass.

"almost agree" PHuck JT, major asshole (Props to W).

Having said that I will now proceed to read the column.

Looking at the updated standings, not too shabby!

Games in hand on everyone, soft schedule overt the next few games, how's your Chocula looking now eh buddy!

OK just joking on the whole Chocula thing but we should be OK until we play the PHucktards followed by the Caps and the end of Jan + 1rst of Feb.

I say that but we do have a tendency to play shit against the teams we should be beating....

@29:

*grumble* Grundginly agrees with your JT comment.

I liked Arpon Basu's piece on AK46 - he seems to play better when he's checking more (that is, AK46 - I don't know about Arpon). He's never really seemed the same to me since that big hit on him by the dogs' Kurt Saur, but when he starts hitting, he seems to get back in the game a bit. He looked really good to me the other night, maybe he just needs a bit of down and dirty action for a change.

Speaking of which, does anyone have any idea of JM's line combos going forward? With all the shuffling it's getting a bit confusing. I think I've figured out the centers for at least the first two lines; beyond that it gets a bit hazy.

Way off topic: I just discovered, way late, that my prayers (and emailed requests to the publishers) have been answered and Cheryl Bernard actually did appear in the 2011 Women of Curling calendar - just ordered mine today. Woo Hoo! I'm not sure how I missed that.

No CHeeze Whiz tonight.

No CHicken tonight, same flu.

With the injuries and now illness plus Chocula's "system" to lock things down tighter than a chastity belt, get ready for a major coma-inducing snorefest tonight. I heard from sources (leaf fans) the Flames-leaf tilt Saturday was brutal to watch.

Maybe a Red Bull or two will help.

@29, the meth is really starting to take hold, you sorta agree with JT. Thats like being a little bit pregnant. Every squirrel finds a nut sometime.

The point of umbrage and what the fuck is wrong with the habs and the whole fucking league for that matter is some smart asshole figured out that hockey is a combination of billiards and chess. So if you play for stalemate and dont sewer you can have a winning percentage. To do this you have to break the balls of every player to stay in his square on the board. It sucks the life out of hockey, players and fans. The only reason it exists is because our fucking idiot cousins dont care if there is child molesting going on in the corners and neutral zone as long as you see a W at the end of the game. Time was Canadian fans would not stand for molesting, but the zombie wave of mass delusion it seems is pervasive.

In summary Chocula deserves less than zero. Its like me driving to work without having an accident. If I drove to work high at 150Km that would be worthy of note.

@moeman - completely forgot about the Strachan affair - just sort of reinforces the whole leaf stroking bullshit that is HNIC...

Never mind - GYFMFHMFG! (is that too many MF's...? - probably not!)

And furthermore Bettman you fucking hoop loving Yankee prick, they only pay lip service to defense in the NBA, and its as exciting as any sport for those not man enough for contact can be.

The Stan Lee figure would make a great boy doll. I hate the defender of Quebec line, WTF. Pre Chocula is was the inventor, owner and operator of fire on ice.

I agree with your agreeing with JT. However, I'd also like to point out the double standard with the hot dogin' going on. Omark does a meaningless spin-o-rama for the Oil and the media and players are calling for his head. Stamkos does it (for the exact same team that pledged revenge against Omark) and it's suddenly on all the highlight reels. A leaf does it and he's the celebrated love child of the Flower and Forsberg. Price, of those EVIL Montreal Canadiens, does some stance and it's disrespectful and hurts the game. Fleury does it later that week and it's a funny, acceptable response. And let's not even get into how Subban's not allowed to even crack a smile after scoring.

The thing is, the players will naturally change and younger ones will come in and the old guard is slowly fading away. But the media generally stays the same age, or in the case of the CBC actually gets older, so the mentality never changes. The thing is, the NHL used to have celebrated personalities that pushed the game along. Richard, the Flower, Bobby Clarke, hell all of the Phlyers and Habs in the 70s. This whole nice boy image didn't really take hold till Gretzky, not to blame him; that's his real personality and it was his thing at the time.

Orangeman said...

And I never really paid attention to Milbury before but I've watched him the past couple of HNIC. It doesn't seem like anyone likes or respects him on the panel and he's always yelling over and insulting everyone else. Nevermind his complete lack of knowledge or insight into the game, how is someone so unlikable on TV? Maybe on FOX, but...

mad mike is being groomed to take over Crotch's Corner.

Moeman raises an excellent question, now that Cherry seems to have forgotten its a hockey show, who will take his place?

Chocula ? " You dont skate through the whole team and score, I tried to tell PFK that for two years, but he just keeps doing it"

Ron Wilson " all that team needs is more Americans, aside from getting me fired KomiIsuck and Kessel are shinning examples"

I think what will happen in the end is they will find the most hammered fan who can both find a way to the booth and say the Leafs are an NHL team and put him on.

They won't ever fire Cherry. They are apparently planning to have an on-air party for Bob Cold on the occassion of his 100th birthday ("it is only a matter of time until the Rangers tie it up" or my personal favourite with the Canadiens up by a goal and thirty seconds left, "the Habs are in deep trouble now") if they haven't missed it yet. Don Cherry will have a live sattelite feed from the intensive care unit and Ron McLame will no doubt keep his frozen head in his garage.

Whatever Al Strachen said, it must have been way worse than (in a fit of rage) calling a team a bunch of cockroaches. Did anyone else notice the insect them when, on Saturday night, in the first period Bob Cold referred to the Habs as "a bunch of gnats flying around your head." ?

Phuck CBC.

@Steve, you've convinced me, tomorrow I'm driving into work at 150 kms!

Film at 11:00.

@orangeman: Stop making sense! (props to David Byrne0.

Saw that guardian thing. I guess it makes sense that Cobra Commander would play for the Habs, especially after establishing a one-goal lead: "Retreat! RETREAT!"

I think Chocula must have visited France and drew inspiration when walking along Le Champs D'Elysees and went right up to and under the Arc de "Run away run away" one of the monuments that the French are most proud of, commemorating their own glorious history in battle.
