The Morning Skate for Wednesday, April 7th

Bullet points for hat you missed while having nightmares of the death of net neutrality...
  • Well, as usual for the Habs you can look at last night's 4-3(SO) loss to the Isles in a couple of ways. On the one hand, a valuable point in the playoff chase. On the other, GODDAMN IT WHY CAN'T WE FUCKING HOLD A FUCKING LEAD IN A FUCKING THIRD PERIOD JM IS SUPPOSED TO BE A FUCKING DEFENSIVE COACH WE FUCKING BLEW OUR CHANCE FUCK FUCK. Either way;
  • We blew our chance to clinch because the Rangers lost;
  • Philly won;
  • The Thrash loss means they are officially eliminated from contention;
  • In a game MYFO hilariously dubbed the end of the regular season, MAF got yanked in the Pens' 6-3 loss to the Caps;
  • 13 goals were scored in the Battle of Weather;
  • Daniel Alfredsson has played 1000 games already? Apparently. Ottawa wins;
  • Stick a fork in the Flames' playoff chances, the Avs get the last spot in the West.
Well, the good news is the Habs need merely a single point in the last two games to clinch a playoff spot. The bad news is that the Habs merely need a single point in the last two games to clinch a playoff spot. Finally, in case you haven't seen this excellent video that's making the rounds, it's good for a smile this morning.

Well, woulda been nice to clinch last night. But you know what would be even better? If the Leafs clinch our spot for us by beating the Rangers. On the surface that sounds a little lame and pathetic. But I think of it as poetic justice. Redemption from 2007.

With all my heart, I sincerely mean this: GO LEAFS GO!

Over 40 shots against in a potential playoff clincher? New Owner, new GM, new team...same as the old shit team.

4 and out at best...

Kmaxx said...

@L Dude...sorry as absolutely destroyed as I feel after the absolute fuckin' shit that was on display last night, I still cannot bring myself to say those words...and I'm really starting to think we don't deserve to be in the playoffs anyway - I mean - in a game like last night, where we decided to show up for 20 minutes in the middle, took only 5 Fuckin' shots in the first period and once again blew a third period lead (did anyone else feel like most of the third period was a 20 min. pp for the Isles)what's the fuckin' point? There really wasn't anything to get excited about last night - who cares who we were playing - you should be using these games to get yourself revved up for the playoffs - not going through the motions. I now have absolutely no expectations from this lot and I'll be dammed if I'm staying up until 4 in the morning to watch them blow another game against the Hurricanes and end up having to salvage the season against the fuckin' Laffs on the weekend. No way - Fuck You Habs (and I've never said that before!)- I'm so fuckin' disappointed I can't even muster a cheer.

Kmaxx said...

@L Dude - Even after the most pathetic display I've watched all year...in a game we should have been using to tune up for the playoffs...in a game where we only bothered to show up for the middle 20...in a game where we once and for all showed that we don't deserve to be in the playoffs...I will not and can not bring myself to cheer for the Laffs - and you should know better! I'm so fuckin' upset after watching last night that I've officially thrown in the towel on this season. What a bunch of fuckin' pathetic wasters. Jaro did the best he could but was I the only one who felt like the third period was a 20 minute PP for the Isles? Dammed if I'm staying up until 4 am to watch them blow another game against the 'Canes and end up fucking getting blown out by the Laffs on Saturdaty night. I'm done for this season. Someone wake me when we draft another midget fuckin' European centre and a 7 ft. defenseman who can't skate!

WV: sarri - as in - I'm really sarri but I cannot take any more of this shit!

Don't count on the Leafs.

They played above .500 for a couple of weeks and once again became the heroes of the GTA.

They are already resting on their threadbare laurels, as evidenced by being shutout by Brian Boucher.

lawyergirl77 said...

Geez, guys. A loss to a crazy streaking team that has had an amazing second half of the season and all of a sudden the sky is falling and the team is dead to you?? yeesh

I guess Mother Nature agrees with you, what with the hail and crazy rain she rained down on Mtl near the Bell Centre this morning.

Yes, the Islanders are in a shite place in the standings, but they've been wicked good for the past 10 games. Same with the WhalerCanes and, much as it pains me to admit it, the Laffs too.

I still think that we'll make it into the playoffs. I wish we could put together a 60 minute effort, but I still like this team. Goals like the Giant's last night make it hard for me to shut the door completely.

Oh look, the sun is shining on the Bell Centre again...

GoldenGirl11 said...

@kmaxx
You so know you're going to watch on Thursday. But don't feel bad, delusions are part of an addiction. Just go with it.

moeman said...

ClinCH it already you fucking Habs!

Kmaxx said...

@GG11...but it just hurts so fuckin' much!!!!

lawyergirl77 said...

Moey - if our playoff hopes are pinned on Saturday night, I'm going to have to find someone to write me an Ativan 'script, STAT, before heading over to the Bell Centre. That would kill me. Not 2007 again, dammit!!

moeman said...

@FHFemmes, if it comes down (sorry for the McSploogian wording) to Saturday night, our Habs have least one extra positive going in, No, Steve, Bégin!

WV = diedn, as in last night when the fucking Habs didn't clinCH it I diedn went to bed

GoldenGirl11 said...

@kmaxx
Brother of GG REFUSED to watch this season. Ya, uh, ok that lasted about one game. Just get it off your chest and then read what LG wrote. You'll feel all delusional the other way after a win tomorrow.

Kate said...

LG,

There aren't enough meds on the planet to get me through that again.

moe,

Good ole Stevie boy, remember the 2008 playoffs against the Flyers? I think it was Saku who tied it with a few minutes left in the third and Begin takes a bone headed roughing penalty, Flyers go on to win it and we're out of the playoffs. I was screaming and throwing things at the TV.

moeman said...

@Moey, remote, cat or Mr. Moey?

Kate said...

moe,

All three and a glass of wine for good measure, which was a waste, 'cos I needed it after that.

moeman said...

@Moey, did you not need Mr. Moey after that too?

Kate said...

moeman,

I'm telling a lie, it's coming back to me now. Mr. Moey was in Las Vegas at a convention during the Flyers series. He saw the final score on TV and was afraid to call home. At my request, he also placed a $100.00 bet on the Habs to win the cup. I still have the ticket, it would have paid $900
if they won, but of course the fucktards lost.

L Dude said...

Sorry, I gotta cheer for the leafs 2nite. Not because I WANT them to win or even that I think we need them to win to make the playoffs. See, I work with a shitload of fucktard Leaf fans. And there's a couple - after every Habs loss, who make an effort to come to my office to jeer and make snarky remarks. This with their team sitting 29th and after 5 years of NO PLAYOFFS and what is it now about a millenium with no cup or something.
So I'm gonna cheer for their dumbassed team and if they win, I'm going to their offices with my Habs flag and I'm gonna rub their faces in the fact that we are in the playoffs thanks to them and because of that they are welcome on the Habs bandwagon for the post season. Sorry.

And if the leafs lose after my cheering for them, I'll need a long, hot shower, some sandpaper and a bottle of Jack Daniels to get rid of the filth.

Hi Guys,

Where's the suck-o-meter? Did it break last night?

yuck.

wv: eporm.... too obvious

dwgs said...

@LDude, I can kinda relate, I spent Easter weekend in southern Ontario with family. The brother in law (diehard Laffs fan) and I watched Saturday's leafs game together. I wouldn't say I cheered for the leafs but I was hoping they would win. After about 9 Creemore he even convinced me to say 'go leafs' but it was in lowercase. When he asked the seven year old to say the same thing the reply was "The leafs suck, I hate them". I didn't know whether to berate the boy for his language or beam with pride.

bea.habs.fan said...

Reading the comments I'm unsure whether to smile (LG's optimism), frown (cheer for the leafs? there is simply not enough alcohol and/or money in the world for me to do that) or join Kmaxx in the abyss of despair.

don't you just love a blog that takes you through all possible emotions in the space of minutes !!!

hfotwc said...

ok, if the leafs win, we're in, if they lose, then they're guaranteed last where they belong. Either way it's GOlf leaf GOlf

@bill, i think that suck"o"meter has exploded from too much suckage.

@bea :don't you just love a team that takes you through all possible emotions in the space of minutes !!!

GoldenGirl11 said...

@dwg
my brother in law offered to double my son's bar mitzvah gift if he said "go leafs". He refused.

soperman said...

The Habs can get into the playoffs without the Leafs winning, they literally need one stinking point in the last two games. I would rather see the Leafs lose tonight and have the Habs get into the playoffs because of one measly point that they did earn. (probably by blowing a two goal lead in the third period.)

WV - "haberett" I think they meant "haberect" but mispelled the WV. I got Haberect after viewing GG11's SCWBP (soft-core web-based porn).

kevincrumbs said...

Yes, repeatedly blowing 3rd period leads is distressing, especially when supposedly coached by a defensive guru such as Count Chocula. However, I refuse to panic when they lose in the lottery known as the SO.

Hit the post a couple of times, including in OT and with Squid's SO effort that Biron seemingly assumed went in. I mean, there's still a mathematical chance that the Habs don't make it but honestly they have a .4% or a .8% chance of not making it:

http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/blog/puck_daddy/post/Death-Watch-Rangers-cling-to-life-1st-round-ma?urn=nhl,232651#remaining-content

Folks, they'll get it done.

Boob is right: don't count on the Leafs.

A question: what scenario has to play out for the Leafs to knock out the Habs with a win on Saturday night?

Kmaxx said...

@eyebleaf - start TFS!...sorry I'm still hurtin' ...hurtin' real bad!

dwgs said...

@eyebleaf on the Team 990 this morning they were saying that if the Rangers win both of their remaining games against Philly in OT or shootout combined with the Habs losing both remaining games in regulation. Haven't checked it myself.

L Dude said...

eyebeleaf: Technically, the Leafs cannot knock out the Habs on Saturday, because it would come down to the Sunday Rangers/Philly game.
Habs need to first lose in regulation to Carolina, then Toronto, also in regulation.
Rangers need to beat the Leafs tonight and the home and home vs. the Flyers.
The Flyers need to grab 1 point from an OT loss to the Rangers.
Bruins need 2 points, either a win or 2 OT losses would do.

As kevin said, according to the stats geeks, they have a 99.6% chance of making it.

Fine. Fuck the Leafs. Do it in Carolina.

b said...

The possibilities of tonight- Sean Avery- a guy who gives idiots and retards a bad name- the Leafs- Colton Orr, Tyler Bozak, ... Grabovkski for that matter. A game that means everything and nothing. The emotional expressiveness of John Tortorella. ... History will be made and it won't be good history.
Could Tronna do something for Montreal? nahhhh.

hfotwc said...

Of all the scenarios, I like L Dude "fuck the leafs" the most.

hfotwc said...

the only way I might like the Leafs tonight is if one of those goons would make Weasely Avery swallow his teeth.

Apparently Ron Wilson says he would like to knock out the Habs on Satudrday.

Say what you will about JM but he knows about dignity and sportsmanship. Doesn't publicly criticize his players, doesn't insult local media (who often deserve it). Can you imagine JM or Muller or Gainey or really any member of the Canadiens organization saying they hope to knock out another team just to annoy their fans?

Boob Gainey said...

Speaking of boorish fans and no-class managers, Man Utd sure got dicked up the ass tonight didn't they?

Sleepy said...

@LD what you'll discover about cheering for the leaves is that you too will be disillusioned. Do you really want to share that with Leaf nation?

TML - Disappointing fans since 1967

moeman said...

Go lea..............

Nope, can't fucking do it. Never have, never will.

The NYR can die on their fucking own.

Go Habs!

iRiRi said...

3-0 Rangers with 8 mins to go in the 1st. Thanks for nothing, you stupid leaves...

No clinching tonight.

moeman said...

10 minutes in and the leaf totally fucking sucks, go figure. This might force many of the leaf fan to question tsn's hugely important question of the leaf season being a sucksless or failure.

Young HF29 said...

Leafs are worse than everything. good work Grabs

Kmaxx said...

@Moeman - I'm with you - I decided to stream the Laffs Rangers game and the Rangers just scored on back to back breakaways - I couldn't stop the smile from appearing again. As much as I want the Rangers to lose I want the Laffs to lose even more. I'm really enjoying watching this...and at the same time - it scares me because the Habs would be losing by a similar score...

Kmaxx said...

WTF - Just saw the Nike Ad for Tiger - That was just weird...

moeman said...

I'm with ya Kmaxx, that tiger ad blows so much steam up his own ass it'll make his 15 gal pals a bit jealou$.

Also, McSplooge feels all sorry for the leaf. GFY Pee Air.

iRiRi said...

@Kmaxx - saw that too. WTF? i was so confused at first. looked more like a PSA

Young HF29 said...

the Tiger ad is a PSA... for Nike. fucking freaky

orangeman said...

On the one hand, I want the Habs to clinCH with their own win not another team's loss, you know like a real hockey team. On the other hand, this is the Habs.

Stupid toronto (not even going to capitalize that shit) sucks again tonight. But you know they'll be flying on Saturday. God, I hate them more than life itself. Only in toronto would the question even be raised if this season was a success when they're LAST IN THE ENTIRE CONFERENCE AND SECOND LAST IN THE ENTRIE LEAGUE! Sorry for shouting, but I fucking hate those fuckers and all the media fuckers who fucking fuck those fuckers.

AHHHHHHHH!

Sorry. I'm on new medication and it hasn't settled in yet.

Go Habs Go?

moeman said...

Has ray ferraroar beat the shit out of Max Laps yet? No? Why not ray? How does this POS still have a job?

Also, love Bobby Orr, my take is he is/was the best ever (bonus, not a whiner like waynEgo) but tsn panel calm down on league-wide number retiring. Oh wait, the Habs also retired a BIG #4.

Whilst here, what number did that POS ferraroar wear (and was it retired?)

hfotwc said...

fuckin leafs, can't score, can't punch avery in the face, useless fucks.

moeman said...

20h32 ; phlegmiller and McSplooge drop the leaf can help eliminate the Habs meme. Success or failure?

boob gainey said...

Leafs' consecutive losses to Philly and the Rangers:

1. A devious plot to help put the Habs out of the playoffs

or

2. Routine suck from a shit team?

You decide.

kevincrumbs said...

@boob: Please, as if the Leafs could actually beat the Phucking Flyers or Rags if they wanted to...

orangeman said...

boob, it can't be because they suck. They won a couple of games a few weeks ago, so not only are they the hottest team in the league but also their season is a success. Not like those sucky teams who made the playoffs. Losers.

So the only way Habs are out is if they lose their remaining games in regulation while the Rangers beat the Phlyers both games with at least one going to OT. Not unthinkable, but very specific nonetheless. But I swear to god, if these idiots make me wait till NYR-PHI's game on Sunday to find out I will burn the Molson Centre down.

Figuratively, of course.
