Sun setting on Habs season - Caps 6, Habs who the fuck cares anymore

Well, it's been a real slice kids. This season has been a wild up and down (mostly down) ride we won't soon forget. I am not here to bury the Habs, nor to praise them, or however that stupid saying goes. I'm here to thank you for all your support of FHF this season and the good times we've had. We'll see you back in September.

Wait, what's that you say? Caps only up 3-1? Season not over? Well, it sure feels like it to me.

I'd love to dissect for you guys what happened out there last night, I really would. That would be my "job" as a blogger wouldn't it? Alas, frankly it's just too painful. Like the Habs' season! Zing!

Here's what I'll dissect - the moment when the season ended. Late 2nd period. Habs have dominated. 21 shots on net in the period. Finally get rewarded with a Gio PP goal to go up 2-1. NOOOOOOO, the Habs have a lead! Bad news. Habs get a late penalty. Like all penalties to that point in the series, Habs come up with an epic kill. Then the Caps have 6 skaters on the ice for about 3 minutes. Habs PP, and they're riding more momentum than a fat whale riding a perfectly spherical boulder down a 60-degree slope. A couple of chances on the PP, only a handful of seconds left 'til we come out of 40 minutes with a 2-1 lead we'll fight to protect in the 3rd to finally win a home playoff game and even this series. And then...

Oh, Hamr, you hurt us. It was sort of flub with the puck, it was sort of a pinch that he shouldn't have pinched, it's kind of hard to tell. But it led to a 2 on 1 shorthanded break the other way. Goal, KKnuble, with 7 seconds left. Game tied 2-2. Season over. Really.

The 3rd period was a mere formality. Habs never came out of the dressing room. Caps pop two in quick succession in the middle of the period, and it was downhill from there. All that was left was a bunch of Carey Price unsportsmanlike conduct penalties and empty net goals. To be honest, I loved the first Price penalty, shooting the puck int the Caps goal celebration after the 4th goal. Showed he's a crazy goalie (redundant I know) who cares. Unlike his teammates in the 3rd.

You could say the Habs deserved better in this series. Shoulda, woulda, coulda. Shoulda won Game 2. Without Hamr, woulda won last night. Coulda been up 3-1. But that's all for shit now. Yes, there is a Game 5 on Friday night. But that's probably a mere formality as well. See you in September.

Things are so bleak, I might have to parody Air Supply.

@GG: The boulder? The slope? The whale? ;)

Now that the Habs have sufficiently distracted me from studying, I can finally watch them get eliminated once all my exams are done. Thanks guys.

@moeman: Surely things are not THAT bad! I agree with 29 that things are pretty much done but come on! - Air Supply! Don't you have a Samaritians hotline you could call or something? And hasn't this season's (non) effort been touch enough on all of without you ending the year with Air Supply? For the love of all the greats who have gone before us - in the name of the Flower, The Rocket, The Pocket Rocket, Boom Boom, Big Bird, The Road Runner, BGL...hell even Gilles Lupien...don't go to Air Supply!

Don't fear (the reaper) Kmaxx. I don't do disco or AM radio schmultz.

@moe - So don't expect any GIO Speedwagon?

On the +/-, our only + skaters were Lil' Tits (+2), and Rhino and Metro (+1). (JM, are you paying attention?? Actually, are you still alive?) No prizes for guessing the most - player (Panger, you forgot to lock the trunk), but tied with him was the little Giant.

Sigh, that shorty was a heartbreaker. Just before that I said, Wow, our guys sure look tired on the PP, just standing around....

moeman said...

Le12, NO! Reo and NO! Def Leo (in case anyone asks). Also, sorry 29 but NO! BeeGees either.

I;m so depressed I odn't want to read any analysis, contribute to comments of any blog (oops) or even hear anything about hockey.

I hope the Caps get theirs and not win the cup. that ius now what I am burning candles too.
please please please do not let the Caps win the Cup (EVER).

Wait a minute, Moeman ... did you just take a shot at Def Leppard?
Cause that's a paddlin'.

You get what you pay for. They bought an experienced playoff loser, who has perfected the heart of coaching a team into a choke so that it can be done in the last two weeks leading to the playoffs, as well. Add to that a system where people are constantly stopping to pivot, which makes you tired. It also means that you are three steps behind on the back check- sound familiar? Mismanage your lines so your best players are your most exhausted players. Lock in some big slow defense men with contracts that will make them hard to move. The ice time and plus minus numbers, again, say it all. The fans deserve more. Montréal, c'est pas Tronna! C'est pas New York.

Moeman, I like the cut of your jib.
No Def Leppard and linking to cool Devo stuff. I got your back.

Actually, bea, I wouldn't mind seeing the Caps win this year.

That way, maybe Bettman et al will finally stop trying to push Sid/Ovie in our faces...

Oh. It didn't make a difference after Sid won last year?

Carry on with your mourning...

WV: Crises. I ain't gunna touch that one.

@dwgs:

You just made the list.

10, I've been paddled for less and for fun.

@lg

Caps winning = bettman right.

no way we can live with that or that the NHL can survive.

if we're lucky the steroid story in DC will blow up in his face and hockey will be the new baseball

A ray of light, folks:

Subban scored the winner in double OT for the Bulldogs last night. T'was his second goal of the night. Dogs lead the series 3-1.

Eases the pain a little, no? Sigh.

Meh, I can't be anything but slightly proud. I mean even Carey played great. but it was the same Carey story as always he lets in the big one that if he saves could have had near Patrick status by now.

Chocula is a joke I am thinking of giving up on team till the minute hes gone. Thanks for sitting O'Byrne who absolutely crushed about 5 Caps last night and instilled fear in them. Thanks for sitting Sergei who I thought had a great series...for a 32(?) year old journeyman. Sergei is almost forced to walk now...leaving Andrei sad and alone with no Bro or Pasquale.

All in all its time to promote coaching staff rather than hire from the gutter or the front of a cereal box or wherever we found that slab.

Captain Crunch with Muller and Sugar Crisp Bear as assistants! Who's with me.

WV: bustskin, Which I would have if we won last night.

Anyone see this yet?

Ovie sprays Habs boy

And while I'm unloading everything negative: Can someone please make a petition to get every piece of U2's music removed from the Bell Centre forever?

The "inspiring" gayness of the song in that clip I just posted replaced by Thunderstruck at the start of the game? Or anything pump-up? Maybe the teams wouldn't notice how small and emo our players are.

And the acid-trip version vertigo that makes my ears bleed after every goal we score with Bono's voice extended out on the word "feel". Who in the fuck thought that was cool? Instead of joy a little piece of me dies every time we score. Replace it with Old goal song Been my ringtone for years. Still pumps me up.

Fuck U2

hoi all
I restrained myself from commenting last night because the last to games I was bantering with you folks we lost, now that we lost again, I have ascertained there is no relation between the teams fortunes and my commenting here. Which is nice because I have enjoyed being here.

Yes the season looks dire. I think actually it would be a fitting end to simply forfeit the game tomorrow and save everyone the ordeal (and deprive the craps owners of the ticket sales). I mean who are they going to put in nets tomorrow? Probably Price, because he is so mad he might get even....although that may not be the most dignified exit, since, getting even seems to also include slashing people from the bench. I think we might have ourselves a genuine Gilles Gratton here.

Why do ordinary goalies suddenly flourish when they face us? it is unnerving. How does a Larvablob become, well 50-shot-master-Jaro ('member him?) as soon as he comes in against us. Is it that our defense is really so much worse?

It may be something in the color combinations of the jerseys which make it easier to see the puck. Then again, the Craps have almost the same colours...rip offs~

I really think we need to consider letting this dynasty simper limply into oblivion. Time for some expansion team devil may care. Maroons baby!! the proud tradition of Baldy Northcott and immortal captain Hooley Smith.

naja...as they say around here. I'll be back tomorrow for one last agonecstathon with you folks tamara.

WV: pregenh this post is pregenh with pathos.

Well, it seems TSN think what Ovie did was ok because - ha ha - the Canadiens are getting eliminated.

I swear these guys take bias and redefine it at a new level.

Orangeman said...

I don't know if I'll even bother watching tomorrow (might just sleep in instead, I have a stag party tomorrow night to rest up for!). Knowing these Habs, I'm pretty sure none of them will show up and it'll just be embarrassing. I don't think I want to see that. I love this team and that's why it hurts to see those wearing the sweater on the ice give up so easily. I hope they prove me wrong, but they've been proving me right all season/playoffs. Unfortunately, being a Habs fan in 2010 means hoping your team at least loses with some grace and dignity.

kevincrumbs said...

Funny, the other day I was thinking to myself how glad I was that no one put a shitty Canadiens song out there for this playoff "run". Well, sadly I was wrong.

Habs Romance, you guessed it, a Lady Gaga cover.

I am watching the Flyers and I'm thinking did somebody try to revive the Maroons in Montreal. The Flyers roster, Briere, Laperriere, Giroux, Cote, Gagne, Laliberte, a goalie named Boucher and a coach named Laviolette. Did somebody miss something in Montreal? And the other interesting thing is these are kids from small towns. Ever try to find a restaurant in Kenora? Chinese and the Beer Store. Hearst, St. Jean sur Richelieu, Portage Laprairie, and I am seeing these guys doin' it. And they finished their season in full suck, too.

orangeman said...

Didn't know it was even possible, but my opinion of the TSN panel has gone even lower. They're blaming the Canadiens organization for Ovie's snow shower on a 6 year old kid. It's fine if you disagree with what the Habs do (idiots), but then to say it's ok to take that disagreement out on a 6 year old kid? I can guarnatee you if that was Lapierre or another Hab, or really any other non-superstar, these morons would be frothing at the mouths. I don't need to be a Habs fan to see that it was a classless, stupid, arrogant and unfair thing to do.

It was a 6 year old kid, for Christ sakes!

I loved the bite Price had after his team basically gave up. Bergeron/Hamr defensive pair of DOOM yet they were always out on the ice everytime the swarm came in to score. Maybe he'll get a fighting major next game. MAY AS WELL GO DOWN FIGHTING!

Chocula's an idiot. He played the best players of the night the least. I'll scream if Rhino and Sergei are scratched again. Also Spacek is sick so call someone for fuck's sake! (Though who I don't know, Weber's concussed so they need PK).

Needs more WODKA and less foam fingers!

Bye bye Devils. Kind of pathetic though...but at least the Habs ain't the first to go.

orangeman said...

Ronan, for real?

This has nothing to do with hockey or your 'team'. That shit is fucking disgraceful. I would be embarrassed and outraged it if was a Hab player. I don't think it's blowing it out of proportion either. That is an insult to the league. Could you imagine a baseball player throwing mud at a batboy? Maybe it's because I'm a teacher, but as much as I hate kids some days, they're off limits.

Unknown said...

My bad. That seems to be the consensus on the blogs, but it turns out that it's just part of a marketing gimmick. Not sure if I should be surprised. I guess that makes sense, though - I doubt kids undergoing chemo could skate around waving a flag.

Still. Doesn't make it any better.
