The Kids are Hot Tonight - Rangers Game Preview and Open Thread

Do I show my age when I make a Loverboy reference? I think so. Anyway, we've got a very hot Rangers team coning in to the Phone Booth tonight. I guess the Habs are hot too, considering we are tied for the most points in the East. I'm still not convinced of course. I'll be content with the Habs play when I'm dead.

Wating in line details - 7:30 PM start, Bell Centre. Habs have won three straight. Rangers are 8-3-1 in their last 12 games, 3-0-1 in their last four. This is the fourth and final meeting this year. Rangers have won all three so far, including the nightmare Super Bowl Sunday giving up five straight goals that yours truly had to sit through.

Pay your cover charge to - our old friends at Blueshirt Bulletin. Ah, the good old days of FHF when we were hated throughout the tri-state area. Good times.

Hot sexy Habs to watch - TFS(tm), 3-0-0, 1.32, .963 during the win streak, earning him third star of the week. Markov and Kovy have 4 points each in the last 2 games. Saku and Ryder both scored on Sunday; the end times are upon us.

Hot sexy Rangers to watch - both goalies are sharp. Lundqvist 2-0-0, 1.00, .967 in his last 2, Valiquette 2-0-1, 1.00, .960 in his last 3. Yikes. Straka, Drury, and Gomez all getting points lately.

Skanky Habs to watch - Gui! doesn't have a point in nine games. He's wasting great play by his linemate Mad Max lately.

Skanky rangers to watch - n/a.

On stage tonight - Price gets the start. Still waiting for the decisions on everyone else.

Post-game adult entertainment establishment - let's get into the car (or a cab) and head over to les Amazones. A little out of the way, but it's not too far, and well worth the trip. Usually alot of fine dancers, good value, good times. And if you're there 'til the wee hours, make sure to stop by Picasso's just upstairs for a huge cheap breakfast.

Now that's just silly. No you won't. You'll be bitching about the power play from beyond the grave. We all will.

Yipes, are we running low on the stripper bank?

In fact, it's her third appearance:

http://fourhabsfans.blogspot.com/2007/12/ladies-and-gentlemen-on-stage-for-your_18.html

I may have a thing for her.

Dave said...

Good for her. That hard work is finally paying off.

She makes the first All-FHF team. HF10 is playing center on that line.

Young HF29 said...

whoa whoa, I want the center spot between those two puppies

ok, we've got hockey news. Carbo will keep the exact same lineup as Sunday.

fezworth said...

Considering the last lineup got Koivu & Ryder scoring in the same game, I wouldn't be surprised if Carbo's wearing the same underwear tonight.

Dave said...

May the spirits in Waskaganish conspire to maintain the scoring touch that may have finally graced the hockey stick belonging to Michael Ryder.

Habsfan10 said...

Wait a minute ... I don't see why I shouldn't play centre. If I recall correctly, 29, you're more of a left winger. Like Ovechkin. Or Lenin. Or Lennon, for that matter.

Young HF29 said...

10 you can play centre no problem. i said i want the "center spot" between those two puppies

if anything, I'm a bad defenseman who falls on his his trying to switch from skating forward to backweard at high speed

Rédaction said...

Skanky Rangers: Jager as one goal in his last 9 (or something like that).

If you're going to "les Amazones" and want to eat omething better than a "tarte aux poils", I recommend "Bofinger's", not far North, on Sherbrooke. They have the best ribs in Mtl. For real.

Habsfan10 said...

Ah. The "center spot". All yours, since MrsHF10 would suspend me for life for any sort of infractions with those puppies. No interference, no rudesse, definitely no baton eleve.

Young HF29 said...

OK so who knows the "ESPN Featured Comment of the Day" feature on Deadspin? I think we need to start something like that here, but it would be "Habs Inside/Out Brain-dead Comment of the Day." Today's entry, that I ran across as I looked for game info:

"Price in!

Habs will win!!!

GO HABS GO!!!!"

Young HF29 said...

@10 - definitely no baton eleve - i just blew milk out of my nose

@Montréaliste (btw si tu deviens régulier t'a besoin d'un nom plus court - how about Mtliste?) - Bofinger's rules! great, cheap BBQ. i love the macaroni and cheese side dishes. BUT, it's still no #1 Picasso breakfast

Rédaction said...

Allright I guess. MtliST.

Oh and Pj's the other side of the Loblaw's have dirt cheap beer. In fact, a bit too cheap for it not to be weird... Its kind of an urban trucker stop.

Isn't weird to have a grocery store right next to a stripper bar? I love this city.

Rédaction said...

grocery store right next to strippers: "hard to keep the dairy away from the meet".

Even though "les amazones" is allright, I doubt its kosher.

HFF33 aka Panger said...

Long live the 'Zones. Any anyone who doubts the shadiness of PJ's clearly hasn't been in there. SHADY.

Young HF29 said...

I watched the entire 1989 playoff run at PJ's. But in the day, it was a fun, college pub for Montreal kids who lived with their parents and didnt want to shlep downtown to a bar. It was a great place. But that was almost two decades ago.

fezworth said...

@29 & @montréaliste1 - couldn't it just be 'liste? The 'Mtl' seems a bit obvious on here, and MtliST is a bit of a handful to type :P

hah that was great LD!

Loser Domi said...

Yeah, I love the Malkin diaries. One of the fine ladies over at HLOG linked to them so I've listened to them quite a bit

Young HF29 said...

man i got a bad feeling about this game for some reason. and it's not the 3 beers ive had already before the puck drops

Loser Domi said...

Maybe you need some Jagrbombs?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4JMOh-cul6M

Young HF29 said...

hmm. i do have to work tomorrow, but damn Jagr bombs are delish!

Young HF29 said...

grrr. here's some space, go shoot.

Young HF29 said...

i TOLD you i had a bad feeling. and Avery to boot. blech

Anonymous said...

Man, Ryder really can't buy a break. He makes a bad play in the offensive zone and it leads to a goal.
But wow, when one thing goes wrong like that things can really unravel quickly eh?
See Sens 6, Habs 1.

Young HF29 said...

oy. Price chased. im happy no one else is watching this. its painful

Young HF29 said...

@matt- unravel, collapse, it's all the same

so, what else is on?

Anonymous said...

hf29, new House at 9....at least I think it's new. Who the fuck knows with this post strike schedule.

Habsfan10 said...

Fucking Rangers. What the hell is it with these fuckers?

Anonymous said...

Actually looks like House is not on. Due to American Idol's uncanny popularity no other station will try to go up against it. So instead the only thing going up against it is the Biggest Loser......which is what you'd have to be to watch either I guess.

Young HF29 said...

fucking right 10. no fucking clue. but fuck, we need to get fucking angry

Young HF29 said...

we've been too nice around here

Anonymous said...

I predict second period goals by Latendresse, Ryder and Danenault.......wow, this maker's mark is really starting to hit me.

Anonymous said...

Boy does Higgins really have hands around the net.....

Young HF29 said...

i'm officially in hell

fezworth said...

Are we really playing this bad? Or are the goalies just shitting the bed? (I just tuned in)

Young HF29 said...

i didn't even get a chance to change the channel and they scored AGAIN.

no really, hell

Young HF29 said...

little of both, fezworth, little of both

fezworth said...

Every time I look in, the habs have the rangers penned in their own end.... but New York has also scored another couple of goals.

I'm confused.

Anonymous said...

Gainey better have something up his sleeve. There are some games where the Habs look like abolute SHIT. And they come when they play teams that are on paper better than them. The rangers just proved they are a better team, Ottawa proved they are better in a 6-1 drubbing, same with the Red Wings. The point is, that when these teams bring their A game the Habs fold like a lawn chair. Want to know the swing I am really fearing??? When they go out west and play the likes of SJ and Anaheim......that could be a disaster...............

Damion said...

tabarnac. the rangers have decided to score both their goals and the goals montreal should have scored in a comeback...

i'm not sure what's worse. being a habs fan in montreal after this game, or being surrounded by gloating rangers fans until the playoffs.

fezworth said...

Ryder has a multi-goal game in a losing cause... Hmm. Where have we seen this storyline before?

Young HF29 said...

fezworth it's an oldie but a goodie!

Young HF29 said...

and damion being around the Rangers fans has got to be worse. good luck with that

Anonymous said...

What the fuck is going on???This ref is absolute SHIT!
Throw more shit.........

Young HF29 said...

hey at least the fans have kept it entertaining. i don't think i've ever really seen Habs fans throw shit on the ice in anger. anyone?

fezworth said...

What the hell are they throwing?

I have to say, from what I've seen, the fans have been surprisingly supportive tonight.

Anonymous said...

They should have let them clean it up and then unleashed round 2!

Rédaction said...

Sorry Im late.

Wheres Chuck P. Linton, these trumpets suck.

Ok Doom looked ugly on the two first.

Carey paid the price.

fezworth said...

@'liste - t'a manque rien.

Young HF29 said...

cue the miracle???

Anonymous said...

There are strippers at the game! There are strippers at the game! And we just scored our fourth!!!

CheGordito said...

Just tuned in on the net and 'saw' Kovalev score on NHL real-time. How's the team looking? Pretty pathetic or like they may make a game of it?

CheGordito said...

Woohoo!!

Loser Domi said...

Who kicked Ryder in the ass? Whoa...

Young HF29 said...

man i thought there would never be a whistle

Young HF29 said...

i might cry

CheGordito said...

WOOOHOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!! Now to win in regular time...

Young HF29 said...

dont get greedy CheG

Young HF29 said...

how was that not fucking interference??

Habsfan10 said...

The fact that the Habs even salvaged a point out of this is a miracle (at least for those of us who have only seen the score constantly changing).

Young HF29 said...

my heart. i need a drink.

Bryan Driscoll said...

do you guys see those 4 chicks they keep showin on RDS?? yowza !

oh yeah, and what a comeback !!

Young HF29 said...

one for the ages kids

CheGordito said...

Yes, I was getting greedy, but I'll still take the great SO win!

Habsfan10 said...

The Rangers fans over on Blueshirt Bulletin are going absolutely apeshit over this. Of course, it's all the refs fault for letting the Habs get away with a million cheapshots, caving to fan pressure, and allowing the Habs to dive all over the ice. Oh, and apparently the Montreal fans are classless assholes.

Hello, pot? It's me, the kettle ...

Bryan Driscoll said...

i was so close to shutting the game off and watching The Usual Suspects that i just got today... thank god for faint hope.

and 29, as soon as you said drink i thought i better polish off my appleton's

Anonymous said...

What in the fuck is going on? I turned it off at 3-0 and last I checked the score it was 5-0. I watched some of the Canucks game, checked out Barack Obama, then went back to the Yahoo scoreboard page to close it and it's in a fucking shootout.

Who's the asshole with the hat trick, and where's he been hiding all season?

Anonymous said...

Holy Shit!!!!!
I may even consider changing my name because of this!!!!!!
But I am superstitous!

Anonymous said...

Greatest. Comeback. Ever. Literally, according to the boys at RDS...

Damion said...

HOLY SHIT! That's got to be almost as exciting as when the Habs beat NY in OT in Game 4 of the '79 Finals.

Young HF29 said...

alright I've had a chance to breathe. i've enjoyed it for 15 minutes.

now let's talk goaltender controversy!

Bryan Driscoll said...

hmm goalies..

hueT is our number 1, so play him dammit. carbo is startin to piss me off with his a.d.d.

Anonymous said...

I'll take back all the negative things I've said about Ryder. On the NHL site though, they gave his 3rd goal to Streit.

Miss. Scarlett said...

Honestly guys, what did the trainers put in their drinks? Did somebody pull a Tonya Harding on Lundqvist or something?

If I swore, this would be where I would do it. [Expletive]

Anonymous said...

Holy shit.

No, seriously HOLY SHIT!!!!

Of all the games to miss... *sniffle* Stupid trial!!!

Oh, and I read a bit of the invective over at Blueshirt Bulletin, but I stopped about halfway up 'cause I didn't want to toss my cookies.

The reffing sucked both ways, assholes. We worked through it, you guys didn't. Nyah.

Actually, it's not the comments about the reffing and even the "classless" fans comments that pissed me off so much as the shit about French Canadians.

So on behalf of all French Canadians: Mange d'la marde ostie! On vous a planté à soir et l'équipe qui la voulait plus a gagné, point à la ligne.

Anonymous said...

I was working tonight, so i couldn't listen to the game, i was stuck listening to the Senators game on the radio because i live in Gatineau. Then i hear "Canadiens came back from a 5-0 deficit to win in a shootout!" And i started crying, right in the middle of the fucking store!

Dave said...

Simply the most incredible regular season game I have ever seen the Canadiens play in my lifetime. Period.

Rédaction said...

I peed myself. Biggest comeback in 100 years. Carbo said it. Wow.

Clutch moment. Plus Ryder's value raised.

Les fantômes du forum ont déménagé.

Anonymous said...

lawyergirl77, I just read their comments. It's typical crap coming from a Rangers fan. Let's just remember who won tonight after coming out of the first losing 5-0 :)

fezworth said...

Holy. Living. Fuck.

That's the most amazing thing I've ever seen.

@montrealiste - I was thinking the exact same thing about the ghosts.

@LG - I just had a wee look at Blueshirt Bulletin. No question, there's a lot of BB-bullshit, but I would point out that a fair few are crediting the habs and their fans for simply taking over. I also noticed that all the 'official' reporting is mainly focused not so much on the Rangers' collapse, as the Habs' stunning comeback.

I close with this moment of zen, from sometime near the beginning of the second period, on the Blueshirts Bulletin forum:

We are Going To THe Cup!!! One Way Ticket ! LOL
