The Game Day Skate is feeling green

Bullet points for what you missed while having nightmares of the Yankees in the World Series...
  • The affront to your senses above will be worn by our juniors this year at the Regina / Saskatoon World Juniors. It's a tribute to the Roughriders or some such thing. Because, you know, CFL football has everything to do with hockey;
  • Luongo becomes the Canucks career shutout leader with a 2-0 win over the Oil;
  • Sharks take care of the Flyers;
  • Speaking of the Flyers, Mike Richards escapes punishment for his Saturday night hit on David Booth.
OK, big week ahead with 4 games in 6 nights, starting with the Isles tonight.

What's with the league not suspending the 'star' players? Ovie's slew-foot, Richards head shot for example. Hard to imagine those not being punishable offences had they been done by Donald Brashear and Aaron Asham instead of their prima donna teammates. Anyway.

I had a horrible thought. How bad would it be to be the first team to lose to the leafs? It's bad enough they've got a point off of the Habs (and it should have been 2). They play the Ducks, Stars and Sabres before the Hallowe'en meeting. Will they still be winless on Saturday? That would be SCCAAARRY! I'm gonna say they beat the Stars. I mean they're a good team. They were far better than Vancouver and deserved to win that game. I didn't see the game - just going by what Don Cherry and the TBC crew said post-game. And being respectable sports journalists, I assume they're correct....

The Leafs have decided on their Halloween disguise.

They're coming as a hockey team.

Yeah, what was Nike thinking making a jersey a tribute to the most beloved team Saskatchewan has. Adding the colors of a team that is 3rd in sales in North America behind the Maple Leafs and Habs. Boy, they'll be kicking themselves when all the jersey's are sold out and on backorder and everyone is Saskatoon and Regina are wearing them.

It's called good marketing. Look it up.

So yada yada yada...

Who's in net tonight? And I was pretty sure the Habs were going with throwback jerseys on Saturday for an original 6 matchup, but they didn't? In practice, you could notice the players wearing yellow gloves, and Price using his 100th season mask... I figure the yellow gloves will be with Blue & White "C" jersey... First blue & white jersey any Hab fan could ever wear!

@ Don W:

There's a difference between "good marketing" and whoring out the fucking national team's fucking colours. That jersey is bullshit, no matter how beloved the fucking Green Riders are. What next, a lovely blue and white version for sale only in the 416? Maybe one with a big flaming "C" where we usually put the Maple Leaf for Panger's city of residence? People really go apeshit over the World Cup every four years ... how about a stylish Italian Flag version? Boo to this shameless attempt at a money grab. It's worse than the shitty black ones they tried to trot out last Olympics, and those were fucking terrible.

Laraque not at practice today. He was receiving therapy.

How the fuck did he get injured?

No Metro either.

All you bastards can go suck it. That jersey is beautiful, like the delicate droplets of morning dew on a crisp, clear day in the mountains.

With strippers.

@ Habsfan10

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree. I don't understand why people are so angry about this jersey but ok about the barberpole jersey the Habs sported. I love the Habs but......Jesus, those were horrible.

@Don: I don't think anyone is okay with the barberpole jersey...

However, if they were, that's something this team wore way back in the day, not some magical creation from some marketing man's desk.

That being said, this American could care less what the fuck the Canadian junior team wears.

Fucking Ray Gay Lalonde as also planned a green jersey night for the Habs.

How's Jaro handling the spotlight ?
